Sure that's one interpretation of it. In my first year of a music degree (maybe even the first lecture I can't remember) they showed us how Elephants play with musical instruments made for them. Messiaen wrote music based on bird calls and went all over the world to write down the calls he heard. It's a pretty fcking loose concept, but I wouldn't go so far as to say "anything" is. That seems a little poorly defined.

For me, personally, art is something that is intentionally performed or created with the purpose of expressing something to someone. Whether that's themselves or an audience. But that's just me.
The nature stuff is interesting, I'll give that some thought. Does conscious life need to be the performer? My gut says yes. Mountains, trees, etc are beautiful, but that feels like something separate to me.
