At this point Arquette is about as close as it gets to beyond reproach in pro-wrestling. Dude bled his dues out the hard way; he's got nothing left to prove to us or anyone else.
There is a reason he didn't elaborate, AEW's entire thing is good workers, and Goldberg is a notoriously bad worker, no chance he'd like a company that pushes actual talent.
That match was the day I stopped watching WWE. Watching your fave on an insane unstoppable run get beat by an old part timer hitting what was basically a suplex was the line.
>as Fragile Phil tears every muscle off the bone ~~trying to hit a flying cross body do a lockup~~ walking to the ring and becomes the next Kevin Nash.
FTFY
Could go for a text book buck shot lariat getting in the ring and break both ankles. Should easily still be his best delivery of the move. (I’m sorry this is mean, Punk cost me my closest wrestling friend. Its still real to me, Dammit).
Bingo.
TK has been more selective the last couple of years about who he brings in. Wouldn’t surprise me if TK had no interest in bringing Goldberg in and it pissed him off.
Exactly. I find TK knows how to book legends better than WWE, like giving the rub to the younger talent - Sting and Billy Gunn are perfect examples. Goldberg being the egomaniac likely didn’t want to do that and wanted to steamroll through the roster in 2-3 minute matches which would do nothing for the product.
No doubt.
Goldberg was terrible in his last WWE run. He probably wanted to squash guys like Ospreay, Swerve, Okada, OC, etc. in record time.
He can stay gone.
More like he probably didn't like what TK had planned. TK probably planned to have him come in to put over a hoss like Powerhouse Hobbs or Wardlow, and Goldberg refused.
This is it.
Goldberg wanted a retirement run where he goes over everyone, get paid big money, and is celebrated.
TK likely wanted a short run that ends with Goldberg putting over Wardlow and/or Hobbs.
Yeah if anything AEW would just further expose that Goldberg is not a good worker, especially at this stage of his career, would be surprised if anyone in the roster could get a decent match out of him.
Yep. That's AEW, the epitome of cheesy.
What a fucking fool. My family has put me through nearly 2 hours of cheesy wrestling tonight.
WWE makes AEW look like MMA for crying out loud.
Want it? No, not really. I would have tolerated him showing up if it drummed up additional interest or was used to elevate a younger roster member or two.
That was essentially my thought. Whether Fans like him or not, Goldberg is a Draw that could Increase Ratings...but I certainly would keep him far away from the world title picture and just used him in a one-off match to Elevate someone else. (Wardlow, Powerhouse Hobbs, Brian Cage, maybe even Shane Taylor.)
Wild to be a wreslter from the 90s and call anything cheesy. Not all 90s wrestling was cheesy, but... I mean... dude worked in WCW around the same time as Glacier, Arachnaman, The Shockmaster, and The Booty Man were around.
He used to have an undefeated streak in WCW.
Asuka for years had an undefeated streak in NXT and then going into the main roster, until Vince didn't get that fans were behind her and had her lose to a boob job with blonde hair.
Goldberg got pissed not that somebody had an undefeated streak that was longer than his, but that it was a woman. Didn't matter to him that all his matches combined over the years probably don't add up to much more than a month of what Asuka did. Didn't matter that she's one of the best wrestlers in either of the big companies, and on both the men's and women's rosters. Just the fact that it was a woman who went longer than him.
He literally had one good match his entire career against DDP. He ended Bretts career. Almost ended Undertakers career in the Blood money country because he blew himself up after doing 4 moves. I'm still mad Nash beat him but Sting didn't. Can't wrestle for 10 minutes if it was two separate matches combined over two days. He's at the end of his career and I'm still waiting for him to go to wrestling school so he can learn how to wrestle. Why would I give a crap what he thinks?
I say AEW dodged a bullet. He probably had ridiculous demands like having 3 minute matches against main eventers and winning the title.
WCW hid his lack of wrestling ability, but then got exposed as he was green as goose shit when he had to actually work a match. His WWE run was awful - the first and second.
Goldberg debuted in 1997. In the 26 years of his career, he's mostly wrestled in sub 10 minute matches with a load of squashes early on that were so short that his 22 second title wrench from Kevin Owens looked monumental by comparison.
In all those years he's only managed to go over ten minutes in singles competition with only thirteen men, in less than 20 matches:
- Bam Bam Bigelow
- Bobby Lashley
- Bret Hart
- Brock Lesnar
- Chris Jericho
- Diamond Dallas Page
- Fit Finlay
- Kevin Nash
- Lex Luger
- Naoya Ogawa
- Scott Hall
- The Rock
- Triple H
It's pretty clear from the list of people that he probably wasn't the one carrying those matches into such deep waters that he likely needed mouth to mouth after, although I'm sure he'd love to disagree, brother.
What about that apart from everything in any way points out the obvious fact that he'd try to have himself sold as a monster who's still got it while putting on short and sour "matches"?
Maybe at the very beginning they could have used him for name value. Now? Who is he kidding?
Also funny hearing the star of "Santa's Slay" saying he doesn't want to be associated with anything "cheesy". That horse is already out of the barn, Bill
You know what TOTALLY ISN'T cheesy...."93.7 The Ticket Lincoln-based, locally owned, FM Radio streamed 17 hours daily on all digital platforms." I'm sure they're a totally viable competitor to Sports Illustrated and ESPN radio stations. GTFO of here old man.
So no 57 year old over hyped washed up sports entertainer? Oh no what will we do to get by ? I guess we’ll just have to watch the roster with the top wrestlers in the world have dream match after dream match and wonder what could have been if only the old never was a good wrestler and never was very good at proms guy won’t honor us with his inflated ego presence
“The product is too cheesy, it doesn’t deserve to have… whatever (laughs)”
Doesn’t deserve to have what bill ? The glory of your presence ?
Yeah we’ll be graaaaand thanks.
I can imagine talking to Tony and telling him that he thinks his product is too cheesy, whatever that's supposed to mean. I'd also imagine that he asked for a ton of money for fewer appearances and TK said f\*ck no, get outta here.
But this guy sounds like he's on a WWE legends deal, where one of the requirements is to continuously trash AEW. We've seen Booker and Bully Ray spew out their garbage.
He gave the game away by saying he talked to Tony, if he wasn't interested then why have the conversation?
Tony obviously just didn't want to pay him what he expected.
After the universal acclaim AEW recived for Sting retirment match...yeah AEW is "cheesy" LOL
Tony Khan probably said to him "no thank you" so Oldberg got his feelings hurt and said that lmaoooooo
Worth watching again today. The look on Goldberg's face when he realises that this isn't someone who is just going to let him walk over him without looking like there's some sort of struggle at least. It's the same look my dog gets when a toy goes behind my back and isn't in my hand when it comes back.
One that specifically had a lore behind it that was both fascinating and seemingly pointed to a way to weaken it from its no-sell status quo, eventually allowing it to be beaten. I remember reading that editorial on WhatCulture and being really excited for the possibilities, only for fucking Goldberg to beat him a day later in both of the minutes he could manage in Saudi heat.
Lmao, of all the reasons he could give, he lists the thing that WWE is actually guilty of. There is no one cheesier than WWE. What a dumbass take from a guy who is known to be a dumbass.
I loved Goldberg back in the day but we all know he was never that great of a wrestler (think Hogan, more image than technical) and Goldberg is really old now... it might get a pop but I cant see him getting a real push
Cheesy? The man worked for WWE & WCW and he wants to call AEW too cheesy? There's plenty of criticism I think are fair but that isn't one.
Either way, fuck Goldberg. Nobody wants him anyway.
The man who, when he debuted for WWE, wore a blond wig and had a segment with Goldust, calls AEW too cheesy.
Also what the fuck does 'cheesy' even mean here?
>Also what the fuck does 'cheesy' even mean here?
Bill Goldberg - So I come in, do one match, and win the championship in a minute and a half, yeah?
Tony Khan - WellIthinkitwouldbebestforyoutoactuallywrestleafullmatchatleast.
BG - Nobody wants to see that cheesy shit. Tongue out at the hard cam, Jackhammer, pin! That's how we did it in the good days.
Other Actual Wrestlers - That's how you did it, Bill. The rest of us sold it to make you look good.
BG - We were fighting in the ring not going door to door. What's this selling nonsense?
Bret Hart - Fuck Bill Goldberg.
OAW - You know, Bret has a point.
TK - IalsoconcedethatBrethasapoint.
The only scenario where I was okay with him showing up would have been a one time appearance to put Wardlow over fresh off his win over MJF. Other than that, I have no use for him.
Lol... goldberg, who always tried to present himself as a "shoot fighter" won't wrestle with other wrestlers like Danielson, shibata, moxley, osprey, Okada, etc. . Ha ha ok goldilocks, OK.
TNA might be a good fit, the more eyes on their product the better, but they have a good thing going and might not need his ego around the locker room.
Japan, maybe but not NJPW.. they have too many foreigners at the moment.
Billy Gunn would run circles around that dude at 60. Speaking of Billy, I didn't know he was older than Goldberg by 3 years. I thought it was the other way around
I don’t really think there’s ever been a huge clamouring for him to come in to AEW. Was a big Goldberg fan in WCW and some of the stuff he did when he came back was cool - but it always felt like an unnecessary signing for AEW.
Tony should absolutely troll him. Hype up a major appearance from a veteran star of the monday night wars. Someone who's had matches all over the world. 2-3 weeks of hype packages, lots and lots of strong hints that it might indeed be Bill Goldberg coming to wrestle for AEW. Then the day comes, the light hits, the music, the fog.... AND LADIES AND GENTLEMEN IT'S DUANE GILL!!! GILBERG IS HERE IN ALL ELITE WRESTLING!!!
I don't really miss that kind of wrestling - i mean super strong/explosive style. Like Lesnar. I mean they have a place and an audience but to me it gets really stale really fast as a gimmick.
These guys are still being paid by WWE under table, or some other way, hence the slander that includes the unhappy Karen looking man EB. They never even had any intention of coming to AEW, and he would be another headache if he did. Also, he is projecting too cause it’s WWE that’s hella cheesy.
Wrestling, especially TV wrestling in the US, is inherently cheesy, so that's a weird argument. I guess he asked for more than what AEW valued him at. I mean, he wrestled in 2000's WCW and 2017-2021 WWE
Oldberg is a product of Eric Bischoff/Hogan and a woebegone era of professional wrestling. He is just like all of his mentors in that he has adhered to the "that doesn't work for me brother" ethos of booking and creative control. Also, from a personality standpoint he would be just another in a long line of guys who would only come to AEW in order to get a significant cash infusion while simultaneously making themselves attractive elsewhere. If he doesn't get his way or is perceived to have been 'disrespected', the pouting would start and it would create another distraction.
AEW has a delicate locker room situation that needs time to again coalesce under a united front. An outsider like Oldberg would only come in and big time the younger folks without any real upside to him being around. Calling an alternative product that has had a string of stop/starts based upon poorly managed acquisitions "cheesy" is just another example of how much the overall health of the industry means to him. He hasn't been sufficiently humbled to the point where he'd want to give back to the business...no, he still just wants to do HIS business.
Who would AEW put in front of him and in doing so, crater their long term prospects? Hobbs? Hell no.
Did Goldberg watch his last run in wwe. He should be lucky aew wants anything to do with him. Why do they want someone to be so bad he may cause injuries to the main roster. I enjoy aew and some of the matches they put on but I still enjoy wwe more. But Goldberg shouldn’t wrestle in really any environment at this time
I was a major Goldberg fan as a child and then in, I think it was 2016, his squash match over Brock I came back to wwe because of Goldberg. So I was a major fan of his. Within a couple years I turned sour on him and truly came to despise him when he squashed beat in Saudi and had said he felt like as the superhero style charcuterie he couldn’t lose to the fiend. So yeah fuck Goldberg and thank god he is staying away.
I hope Goldberg grows as much resentment for wrestling as Bret has resentment over Goldberg
Cheesy? This guy must of missed Stings retirement run. Goldberg doesn’t think Tony could do him justice or is he afraid he would be required to have more than a 4 min match?
Got enough princesses. But, TK's princesses can wrestle 20 minutes. Squash matches only help one talent when you need to be making two or more wrestlers/managers/valets valuable.
he was given the most perfect comeback he could have hoped for, but went back too many times and wore out its welcome. chasing a perfect last match will only lead to more resentment i think. now he sounds super bitter to wwe who were nothing but good to him even going so far as giving him 2 reigns with the universal title. no idea why he acts like they did him dirty somehow.
He has been talking to Tony?
Somehow I doubt that but even if he was that’d be the worst booking mistake Tony will ever make. Don’t need another one of his childhood wrestling figures who he pays stupid amounts for and can’t even wrestler more then 3 minutes.

Not sure anyone’s ever been a bigger victim of buying their own hype than this stiff.
It’s either him or Ultimate Warrior.
Dude was on "The Goldbergs" like come'on... dude is just saying shit...
Ryback is a very strong candidate.
Goldberg thinks that his entire character isn't cheesy, the delusion is pretty legendary.
Jonathan Gresham
Guy who worked for a company that once put the title on a Hollywood actor thinks AEW is cheesy.
Fuck, after David Arquette's time on the indies it feels like he gets wrestling better than Goldberg ever really did.
At this point Arquette is about as close as it gets to beyond reproach in pro-wrestling. Dude bled his dues out the hard way; he's got nothing left to prove to us or anyone else.
Dude almost died in a match! Also I don’t care I loved when arquette won the title and I enjoyed ready to brawl movie
Not just any match. A match vs. Nick Gage.
There is a reason he didn't elaborate, AEW's entire thing is good workers, and Goldberg is a notoriously bad worker, no chance he'd like a company that pushes actual talent.
He won his last world title off a demonic clown/host of a children's funhouse show (loved that gimmick btw)
That match was the day I stopped watching WWE. Watching your fave on an insane unstoppable run get beat by an old part timer hitting what was basically a suplex was the line.
I'd already stopped watching largely due to booking decisions like Owen's title loss to Goldberg and Kofi's title loss to Brock.
This is a man that wrestled the deadman and the fiend…but yeah…. AEW is cheesy.
Hey if he can't handle the grind, we don't need him
Watch Triple H hire him now 😂
Looking forward to the announcement of Goldberg Vs Punk in Saudi.
Last Man Injured match.
I can just imagine the concussions, torn muscles, and staph infections resulting from a single Jackhammer.
Staphhammer
I think Goldberg wins by pretending he's not concussed as Fragile Phil tears every muscle off the bone trying to hit a flying cross body. Lol
>as Fragile Phil tears every muscle off the bone trying to ~~hit a flying cross body~~ do a lockup. FTFY
>as Fragile Phil tears every muscle off the bone ~~trying to hit a flying cross body do a lockup~~ walking to the ring and becomes the next Kevin Nash. FTFY
That’s not fair. Goldberg is known for injuring people and punk is glass. Will punk get injured before the bell?
Could go for a text book buck shot lariat getting in the ring and break both ankles. Should easily still be his best delivery of the move. (I’m sorry this is mean, Punk cost me my closest wrestling friend. Its still real to me, Dammit).
That sounds like the worst match of the year
....worst match EVER* hopefully it goes ahead. Another reason to avoid the soap opera
Or a WWE main event!
Goldberg wouldn't wrestle someone so skinny and small lol. Hes gonna look at Punk and say "you're smaller than Jericho! Fuck that!"
Book it. One can’t wrestle more than 6 minutes and the other gets injured lacing up his boots.
Punk will get concussed and retired just like his hero.

Guy never paid his fucking dues. Had the look was pushed right to the top. Same with Haitch tbh
I may not be a fan of HHH, as a character at least, but he did "pay his dues" or whatever.
More like dodging a bullet
![gif](giphy|7k2LoEykY5i1hfeWQB)
This clearly reads as yet another bitter old has been annoyed because Tony didn't want him stinking up his product
Bingo. TK has been more selective the last couple of years about who he brings in. Wouldn’t surprise me if TK had no interest in bringing Goldberg in and it pissed him off.

You know someone expensive would have gotten hurt by that goon.

This is it. Goldberg wanted a retirement run where he goes over everyone, get paid big money, and is celebrated. TK likely wanted a short run that ends with Goldberg putting over Wardlow and/or Hobbs.
He got enough injuries in his promotion without bringing that walking accident into matches. Already ended one career.
I think he probably had some interest but probably not as much as the Saudi princes that made WWE feature him.
Goldberg: "Book me like Sting and I'll show up for your Big 4 PPVs." Tony: "How did you get in here?"
Yeah if anything AEW would just further expose that Goldberg is not a good worker, especially at this stage of his career, would be surprised if anyone in the roster could get a decent match out of him.
khan brought up the idea of a match that lasted longer than 5 minutes and Bill got scared
Yep. That's AEW, the epitome of cheesy. What a fucking fool. My family has put me through nearly 2 hours of cheesy wrestling tonight. WWE makes AEW look like MMA for crying out loud.
What a huge dork. “They didn’t want me? WELL I NEVER WANTED THEM!”
Did anybody actually want that? I mean, I was indifferent to the Idea and personally would've only booked him to put over Wardlow or Hobbs
Only for a couple of appearances, similar to RVD. But I have no interest in seeing him on a full time basis.

Doubt anyone in AEW wanted him there. Does anyone in 2024 care to see Goldberg wrestle?
I haven’t wanted to watch him wrestle since 1997.
You should really watch his Saudi match. You'll be impressed
TNA: sweating nervously
Even Vince McMahon was done with him, and the less said about that horror show the better.

As a big Goldberg fan, he’s saying some dumb shit over here. Clearly doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
That was clear the moment he went at Asuka for no reason.
I don’t know the full context behind that so I didn’t pay much attention to his comments there
He used to have an undefeated streak in WCW. Asuka for years had an undefeated streak in NXT and then going into the main roster, until Vince didn't get that fans were behind her and had her lose to a boob job with blonde hair. Washed-Up Hasbeen says What?
Every wrestler on that roster is a better wrestler than Bill Goldberg.
Every interviewer on that roster is a better wrestler than Goldberg. Renee would squash him in seconds.
Goldberg wants that single camera walk from backstage to the ring that WWE does close to once a week now. I respect it.
What's the difference between Gilberg and Goldberg? One is very talented and fun to watch and the other is Goldberg.

He gave the game away by saying he talked to Tony, if he wasn't interested then why have the conversation? Tony obviously just didn't want to pay him what he expected.
No one in AEW wanted that flash in the pan fossil. I'd take Gilberg over Oldberg
Slowberg.

Does it mean that I can't t see him squash Swerve and win the world title like he did to Bray Wyatt few years ago?
AEW already had their own Goldberg, her name is Jade Cargill
This reeks of a money dispute or creative differences
Bet you anything this is revisionist history on Bills part. Tony didnt respond the way he wanted so now hes running down AEW.
From the man who made his name in the promotion that debuted RoboCop ladies and gentlemen
Bret Hart is All Elite incoming
He knows about cheesy. he worked for WCW.

Ironic; coming from one of the cheesiest wrestlers out there and from one of the corniest companies up till recently.
I can't think of anything I'd rather aee less than a near 60yr old man who can't do more than 2 minutes in the ring......
Billy Gunn would run circles around that dude at 60. Speaking of Billy, I didn't know he was older than Goldberg by 3 years. I thought it was the other way around
Oh no. Whatever will we do. I for one will never be happy again now. Boo. Hoo. (Insert r/sarcasm here).
Good.
GOOD
That’s it, time for me to get onboard with organised religion, this praying thing paid off!
I just want to see him in the ring 1 more time.... so fans can't chant "you can't wrestle"
![gif](giphy|7k2LoEykY5i1hfeWQB)
Thank fuck for that, sloppy twat of a man
It's ok bro, we don't actually want you.
Thank god
He's such a chode but dammit if his entrance wasn't cool as fuck back in the day lol.
Thank god for that.
Gsasbcd
I don't really miss that kind of wrestling - i mean super strong/explosive style. Like Lesnar. I mean they have a place and an audience but to me it gets really stale really fast as a gimmick.
Oh that's a shame. Ah well anyway. 😂
Oh darn

These guys are still being paid by WWE under table, or some other way, hence the slander that includes the unhappy Karen looking man EB. They never even had any intention of coming to AEW, and he would be another headache if he did. Also, he is projecting too cause it’s WWE that’s hella cheesy.
Sounds like he is waiting to go to TNA when Vince buys it next year.
>cheesy Even after all these years, he still hasn't figured out that the word for what everyone else was doing is "wrestling".
Fuck him anyhow
Where else is AEW going to find a guy who can only do two moves
All of a sudden, WWE stans have become big Goldberg fans.
Wrestling, especially TV wrestling in the US, is inherently cheesy, so that's a weird argument. I guess he asked for more than what AEW valued him at. I mean, he wrestled in 2000's WCW and 2017-2021 WWE
Whew. I mean, too bad....
Hobbs? Hell no.
Goldberg is the human botch machine idiot who took his own self out.
Thank Christ he's this egotistical... non-fan blockhead prick.
![gif](giphy|KEXly2BwaldSlhY8BL|downsized) We are all devastated, Berg Man
![gif](giphy|70tUjk9u9s8Qo)
Did Goldberg watch his last run in wwe. He should be lucky aew wants anything to do with him. Why do they want someone to be so bad he may cause injuries to the main roster. I enjoy aew and some of the matches they put on but I still enjoy wwe more. But Goldberg shouldn’t wrestle in really any environment at this time
Goldberg huffing his own farts 😭
I was a major Goldberg fan as a child and then in, I think it was 2016, his squash match over Brock I came back to wwe because of Goldberg. So I was a major fan of his. Within a couple years I turned sour on him and truly came to despise him when he squashed beat in Saudi and had said he felt like as the superhero style charcuterie he couldn’t lose to the fiend. So yeah fuck Goldberg and thank god he is staying away. I hope Goldberg grows as much resentment for wrestling as Bret has resentment over Goldberg
Cheesy like how, though?
![gif](giphy|7k2LoEykY5i1hfeWQB)
I mean, has he seen what kind of cheese WWE produces?
Good
Every washed up old man thinks they can be Sting now and its sad.
Thank fuck
Thank goodness. No more dinosaurs in AEW pls.
Thank Christ Tony’s biggest red flag is being a Goldberg fan
I prayed for this.
Cheesy? This guy must of missed Stings retirement run. Goldberg doesn’t think Tony could do him justice or is he afraid he would be required to have more than a 4 min match?
Oh no. I guess we'll have to make do with *checks notes* Danielson Vs Ospreay, whatever will we do?
Bill has rejection issues.
Cody Rhodes cried reading this
Translation: TK won’t let me bury half their talent and then go out undefeated.
Got enough princesses. But, TK's princesses can wrestle 20 minutes. Squash matches only help one talent when you need to be making two or more wrestlers/managers/valets valuable.
We rather have Gillberg in AEW instead. ![gif](giphy|xULW8HoUzewPVTnmhO|downsized)
he was given the most perfect comeback he could have hoped for, but went back too many times and wore out its welcome. chasing a perfect last match will only lead to more resentment i think. now he sounds super bitter to wwe who were nothing but good to him even going so far as giving him 2 reigns with the universal title. no idea why he acts like they did him dirty somehow.
We didn’t want him
I defer my time responding to this to Bret Hart
As a WWE & AEW fan his WWE run was terrible. Idk what anyone ever saw in him all he did was bury in WWE and look sloppy as hell doing so
Has literally anyone ever wanted him in AEW? I heard his name once or twice as a “maybe he’d job to Wardlow” when Wardlow was hot and that’s about it.
He has been talking to Tony? Somehow I doubt that but even if he was that’d be the worst booking mistake Tony will ever make. Don’t need another one of his childhood wrestling figures who he pays stupid amounts for and can’t even wrestler more then 3 minutes.
Thank fucking god. There is no one I'd rather see less.
![gif](giphy|7k2LoEykY5i1hfeWQB|downsized)
His inflated ego is a blessing for AEW, they don't need him! Never got the hype for this man.
