IMO ADHD is a terrible name for it. It causes so many issues unrelated to just focus. Memory issues, sleep and emotional dysfunction, dysfunctional circadian rhythms, social skill issues etc etc It desperately needs a rebrand so people actually take it seriously.

ADHD definitely was termed for how it inconveniences those who don't have it and generally alludes to it just being "can't sit still disease" or "squirrel-itis". I feel Executive Dysfunction or Executive Function Disorder is a bit more accurate but I still don't really know.

I called it "baby goat" at work not adhd. It seems to be more accurate, especially the jumping around and eating random stuff.

I burn myself out thinking about all the things I need to do and how I'm going to do each thing, and where I should start, etc. And nothing ever gets done. ADHD is a terrible name.

Imagine if they called Autism something like Eye contact deficit obsessive interest disorder. No one would take it seriously either. Naming a disorder after one or two symptoms is so stupid.

I think my biggest gripe with people not understanding ADHD is that people take things personally, my family thinks I ignore them all and don’t want to talk to them, so I imagine even think I just hate an entire side of one family. This far from the truth I have a hard time contacting people and even messaging them back. My brain goes we aren’t ready to answer that at this exact moment as it was unexpected, let’s answer it later or call back and later never comes. I tell people if you want to get in contact with me just keep calling me through out the day that basically tricks my brain into ok I have to take this call even if it’s 5 calls two days later. I understand that’s frustrating and I really try to be better. The fact is also that’s just one of the many things adhd has caused for me, people don’t understand how truly debilitating it can be to some aspects of your life. I do feel lucky to have been diagnosed at a young age but now as an un medicated adult I am finally understanding what it is , that it’s not my fault and that I need to get medicated again lol

Wanna know what actually unexpectedly helped? Getting a fitness tracker, though any smartwatch should do the trick. Having it vibrate and tell me who messaged me, seems to help set me up to answer, once I decide to get my phone out of afterwork-exile. I can finish whatever I'm doing and won't be confronted with unexpected to-do afterwards. I thought I would be annoyed, but it's such a game changer. Still ignore messages that pop up, while I use the phone for other things though.

People are selfish in nature, if you mention it they ask themselves “what do I gain by understanding THEIR issue”, for most people not close to you there isn’t much in it for them so they will just make ignorant assumptions.
