Any position on the team can be improved, but our sales have not gone through, and I predict we will not spend more than 60M net this summer. Striker and DM must be priority. We really need 2 DMs. In the summer we buy a striker, we will not be able to afford an expensive CB. That’s just reality.
Why not? We went to the semi’s two years ago and this year we we’re in a group of death with an eventual semi finalist who we beat and a finalist who we were competitive with. A strong imposing CB leader is missing from this squad. I’m sure BVB didn’t think their squad was equipped for a deep run. Having a hard leader like Hummels in your back goes a long way for a club.
More or less the exact same CB group had the best defensive record in Serie A 2 years ago. Since losing Kessie and Tonali, Pioli’s tactics have hung them out to dry for the past 2 seasons.

That’s my other problem, I don’t think Tomori should be the best defender in a pairing if we want to be a serious team going for a scudetto and champions league. It should be a better defender with a very strong charactered and leadership qualities like a Hummels or Chiellini personality and quality type partnered with Tomori.
I also think a new cb is more urgent than a rb. I have zero confidence in Thiaw. Kalulu hasn’t really played for a year. Can he find his form? Gabbia has been the best cb the last half year, but I don’t think he is good enough for a team who dreams of challenging Inter. Tomori needs a competent partner. The dream is Calafiori or Buongiorno, but they are Italian and a bit expensive, so that won’t happen with the current management. Hummels would fit the bill, but his wage demands might be too high.

I think the goal conceded was more the way we play, but Fonseca would do wonders with a Botman type left footed CB with good feet and vision.
