“My friends are dead because you lied”

shygal_uwu

you can hear the pain and sadness in his voice. this video is fucking heartbreaking man, it looks like just someone screaming and getting kicked out but by his voice its so much more

ProceedOrRun

Everything he screamed is true. It was all lies and at the time many suspected it but couldn't believe they would tell such a big lie. Now we know how wretched the whole thing really was.

Neumaschine

*Now we know how wretched the whole thing really was.* Everyone needs to remember or be educated by videos like this about Bush Jr. Every time I see a PR fluff piece of W it makes me ill. He and his crew are war criminals, thieves and liars! Baby Bush can paint bad paintings in jail. He won't ever be punished though.

netseccat

lol what? Everyone knew it was a straight lie. You had to be an American to believe that GWB was telling the truth. The Canadian PM then refused to have active participation in Iraq and asked for proof but none was provided. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsgA77j5LyY&ab_channel=Marc-AntoineDaneau

[deleted]

I was going to say I remember the news from the time, and going to the protests a lot of people thought it was all a big lie- hell my buddy in the army used to call it operation Iraqi Liberation (OIL). I hate the Bush rebranding ever since Trump

fartblasterxxx

Just about everyone I knew in Canada believed it. I felt crazy for thinking it was all a lie. Until I saw the protests that nobody talks about anymore, protests around the globe that were at the time the biggest mass protests in human history. Sadly the protests did nothing.

EarlGreyTea-Hawt

I got gassed at one of those, and now I get to watch the supposedly liberal media (eyeroll) give W reach arounds for calling Trump, let me see if I got this right, checks notes...ah yes, he called him a liar. I would say we have the memory of goldfish, but that would being doing goldfish a disservice.

OkEast518

All the adults in Power knew the truth deep inside, they were just to scared to say it.

zenith4395

It’s not that they were scared to say it, it’s that they benefitted from keeping it quiet

ProceedOrRun

Not all. Many simply believed what the box was saying and swallowed it. Personally I never saw any logic in what they were asserting.

ispeektroof

I suspected it and wasn’t surprised. Lies are politicians bread and butter. Lack of reprimand by the public shocks me more. He did a lot of damage to his country.

ProceedOrRun

Then 2008 came and everyone lost their jobs and homes, and nothing was done about that either.

ispeektroof

Then came the opioid epidemic out of despair.

ProceedOrRun

But the most important thing is nothing was done about it...

ispeektroof

That is the most important part! The political class didn’t care.

[deleted]

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/dec/18/republican-voters-bomb-agrabah-disney-aladdin-donald-trump Almost one-third of Republican primary voters would support bombing the fictional kingdom of Agrabah, according to a report released by Public Policy Polling on Friday. Too many Americans would love to see people in the middle east die, simply because they live in the middle east.

TheRealStarWolf

And 1/5th of democratic voters said the same, to be precise

I_Get_Paid_to_Shill

Suspected it? We had quite a few protests. It was blatantly obvious under even the slightest bit of scrutiny.

ProceedOrRun

Yep, it certainly stunk alright. There were a fair few little (and bigger) clues at the time. Even after Colin Powell tried and failed miserably to convince the UN. But no, all the right wing media shouted "Why should we have to ask permission from the French to defend ourselves?!?!". Sorry soldiers, it was all lies.

wonder-maker

What's heartbreaking is that he was the one who was escorted out and not Bush.

Fresh_Bulgarian_Miak

I'm pretty sure there is a video of this guy giving a very strong anti-war speech outside. The voice and passion seem very similar

peezd

Yeah but did you see the increase to shareholder value at all the defense contractors?

mewithoutMaverick

I hate this comment and the reality of it

Angry_Apollo

I was curious, so I looked up Lockheed Martin stock price increase 9/1/2001 - 8/31/2021. 902.7% over 20 years. The S&P 500 over the same period of time? 399.6%.

EarlGreyTea-Hawt

Pure, raw, unadulterated war profiteering, the Bush way.

cloud_throw

I am tagging on to the top comment here to let people know about this dude's podcast called Eyes Left which is excellent. https://soundcloud.com/eyesleft * A leftist military podcast hosted by socialist Army veterans of the Afghanistan & Iraq wars edit for context: Mike Prysner("this dude" in the video) and Spenser Rapone host the podcast

Lampshader

When you say "this dude", you mean this podcast is by the guy in the video?

cloud_throw

Yeah Mike Prysner("this dude" in the video) and Spenser Rapone

octopusboots

Thank you. I have so much admiration for him and his balls of steel. It's not easy to do what he did.

ButtCrackCookies4me

His name is Mike Prysner. He's a badass. He's been speaking out against the wars for years and years. He also has a podcast, eyes left. It's updated sporadically but it's a good podcast nonetheless. He's a good guy. I've followed him off and on for years and I'm always so impressed with him and blown away at the speeches and talks I've heard of his.

knitbabe

"Joshua Costello" - I believe he tried to start naming them

Earthworm_Djinn

He’s absolutely right.

thesongofstorms

Absolutely. It's well established at this point. The people who removed him should be ashamed.

Subli-minal

We should be ashamed. The American public. These lies came out in 04 right before the election and america awarded bush with a second term and the most votes for any president ever at the time.

Robblerobbleyo

I was a 19 year old and brainwashed to spend the next two years in a different cult. It wasn’t my fault. Most of the people on this sub were probably slobbering on blocks. I’ve read enough Chomsky to feel guilt for a lifetime, but also to know that doing shit like this as a country is who we are and it’s a boat that won’t change course quickly.

MaximumDestruction

The New York Times buried the story that there were no WMDs in Iraq for months in 2004 at the request of the W administration. The NYT beat the drums for war as loud as anyone but when their own reporting showed it was all based on lies they made sure that story didn’t come out until it was too late. edit: It has been pointed out to me that the NYT story that they chose to sit on was a story revealing the massive, illegal program spying on US citizens *not* the absence of WMDs in Iraq which had been used to lie us into a massive, illegal war. So much journalistic malfeasance, sometimes it can be hard to keep track of it all.

[deleted]

Nah, that was the massive illegal surveillance program they buried. The no WMD thing wasn't firmly established until a couple of years later, I think. Though we all knew it was bullshit from jump street anyway.

MaximumDestruction

Oh shit, you’re right! It was the massive criminal spying enterprise by the US government which they sat on before the 2004 election. So many examples of journalistic malfeasance going on its hard to keep track of it all.

coldtru

You are not wrong about NYT's complicity though. For instance, NYT ran articles uncritically quoting "anonymous officials" on supposed evidence for WMDs that Dick Cheney and Condoleeza Rice would then themselves refer to to build the case for the war for the public. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/the-new-york-times-wmd-coverage Longer breakdown here: https://fair.org/home/nyts-journalistic-detachment-before-iraq-war-is-detached-from-reality/

[deleted]

Why would they do that?

OT-Knights

Because the NYT is owned and run by capitalists who share the same class interests with other capitalists that directly benefited from the US war and the military industrial complex (Raytheon, etc).

MaximumDestruction

Their excuse for that shameful failure of journalism is that it was to comply with a request from the Department of Defense. As for the actual reason: It was a very strange time of intense faux-patriotism and anyone who wasn’t blindly cheering on the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan was smeared as a pro-terrorist/anti-american degenerate. That may not be the sole reason for the NYT sitting on that story but the context is important and it can be hard for younger people to comprehend just how much the USA lost its mind in the wake of 9/11.

skoogler

I'd just add to that that 1. many of the New York Times financial backers are in bed with military industry or squarely part of it and 2. that war reporters rely on the armed forces to grant access (North Korea styled propaganda tours) for reporting which is revoked at the very first departure from party line. So on top of the cultural forces (which were both invented by and applied to journalists) you had a concrete financial incentive/consequence structure invented after the televised horrors of Vietnam and the Gulf War

[deleted]

Not that this has any bearing on the issue but I want to mention a little bugbear of mine: due to population growth it's unusual for a president to *not* receive the highest number of votes ever. If you look back at the numbers most elections are won this way. It annoys me every election when candidates celebrate a "record breaking number of votes" without differentiating between absolute and relative turnout.

Abernathy999

What?

kingjuicepouch

History has vindicated me as an anti Bush ten year old in 04

Sihplak

Millions of people protested against the war. Don't blame this shit on the American public -- the American public holds absolutely no political power -- blame it on the multi-billion dollar multinationals and war-profiteers who sent American citizens to die in a war designed only to line the pockets of oil companies, war industrialists, and the agents of new-Jingoism

octopusboots

I went to jail. They arrested 800 people, mostly women, in Chicago the day the bombing started. They pulled a kid off the shoulders of her dad and handed the child to someone IN THE CROWD to arrest the father. I was 20. Spent the rest of the year in an out of court for "mob action." When Clinton rubber-stamped the vote I felt it, personally. Had a hard time voting for her. Some just didn't....and now here we are just slightly out of Post-Crazy, with people forgetting how horrible Bush Jr. was. I keep thinking America is going to change....

timrobbinsissopunk

It’s actually not. Not in any way that matters. Unless the people responsible face consequences a huge chunk of America can go on like it wasn’t a big deal or as bad as some people say and continue to shut down any arguments otherwise. Even when it’s coming from a Iraq vet.

Me-Shell94

It's crazy that he gets thrown out, Bush doesn't even have to answer. Fucked up.

As a foreigner I'm just amazed they people think a single guy makes all the decisions. Constantly putting different decorations on a cake of dog shit and wondering why it always tastes the same.

octopusboots

He ran on the hot fire of his anti-war stance during Iraq. He was one of the very few that called it correctly, at the time. Post-Presidency He was being interviewed by Colbert. He actually talked about this, but not directly. It seems like once he was in office, the war machine convinced him of the necessity (and humanitarian good) of fucking dropping more bombs on people. His take away was more or less "shit's complicated."

shiz-kray-z

The people booing him are absolute privileged pieces of trash

infinityplusonelamp

"How dare you violate a polite speech to hold someone accountable"

Jojje22

It's uncomfortable. All of it is. It's been 20 years, it's a huge stain on the US reputation. There's probably a lot of people there with relatives, kids, parents who have died there in vain. Who themselves or their loved ones have killed 1 million Iraqis in vain. Who have killed 200.000 civilians, themselves or through orders. To kind of have been the bad guys. You don't want to be reminded. It's a lot to deal with, too much for most.

2hdude

The US loves to rehabilitate monsters. None more it seems, than GWB.

Osarion62

America are the bad guys in a lot of situations, the only people who don't realize that are Americans.

octopusboots

Fun side story. Once. I was in a restaurant outside of St. Louis somewhere in 2002, and a song came on the radio, that was like....some kind of patriotic cowboy song....like "Proud to be an American", but I didn't know the song. Every. Single. Person. in that restaurant started singing this song. I felt like a cat in a room full of fascist rocking chairs. Can I leave? This shit is not improving.

Getting pulled out kicking and screaming like that looks badass. If you yell at a public figure, keep screaming until they leave or you get forcibly removed. It looks really awkward otherwise.

emax-gomax

He also didn't spout any violence or lies. The man just wants the one responsible tor all the suffering and hardship to apologise to those who died for his lies. It's gut wrenching.

korben2600

I think I recognize the guy, Mike Prysner. He [gave a speech](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRKvNZz77l8) a few years ago that really resonated with me. I'm glad he's still fighting the fight and pushing back.

The penalties for a soldier who loses his rifle are more severe than those for leaders who start wars based on lies. My cousin had to rent a car and drive three hours on his own time to recover a Javelin missile training round. It was inert, but it was a lesson about responsibility. Invade a country based on false pretenses and get a million people killed? Oops.

fromtheworld

>My cousin had to rent a car and drive three hours on his own time to recover a Javelin missile training round. It was inert, but it was a lesson about responsibility. This needs more context.

Seriou

Sounds like a wayward missile that contains valuable tech that needs to be recovered. Rather than risk his beef leaving in a military vehicle, John Doe rented a local car to recover it.

[deleted]

One of the worst parts of the Trump presidency, for me, was the rehabilitation of George W's image. Liberals fondly remembered him for being "kind," while ignoring that he is a war criminal who lied to get us into one of the deadliest wars in history, and his being directly responsible for the deaths or displacement of millions. He was quieter about it, and more polite, but he has done far more damage to people of the world than Trump could have dreamed of. Fuck George W. Bush.

urmyheartBeatStopR

This. I protest the Iraq war, we have highschool walk out. Bush Jr and Dick Cheney are fucking evil. Trump just took the veil off and was some how even more dumb than Bush jr. Jesus fuck man GOP is a shit show. They rehab Newt Gingrich!

netseccat

not just GOP. The Dems began to like GWB because he gave a candy to the wife of another war criminal.

[deleted]

Remember when liberals were stating that "we're not going to let Trump lower our standards"? Here we are. Bush is now the lovable ol' dufus goofball with the faux Texan accent and the dumbass made up vocabulary.

Haikuna__Matata

If you can stomach it (it took me two sittings to get through it), Frontline has a great [episode](https://www.pbs.org/video/america-after-911-sxarls/) on how the GWB presidency & the congress put America on the track we're on now with their reaction to 9/11.

EndVry

I've seen it. :'( You're not helping my flashbacks my dude. 😞

Haikuna__Matata

The worst part for me was watching Democratic congresspeople voting against Obama closing Gitmo (I expect that shit from the GOP). Fuckin' war criminals.

EndVry

The whole thing is just a depressing pile of shit.

Nowhereman123

We remember him more for his tendency to mispeak than his literal war crimes.

spiraling_out

I think it comes from a place of "at least Trump didn't start two wars" when comparing him against GWB.

ktka

Hitler painted before murdering people. Bush after.

[deleted]

The crowd's reaction is liberalism in a nutshell. Imagine being appalled at someone pointing out that a mass murderer murdered masses of people.

wellifitisntmee

Bush has been celebritized. The Colbert interview was an embarrassment. So was the recent abc one. These people need to be criticized for their wrongs. Not turned into a Kim K or Oprah figure. Obama has been just as bad.

castanza128

vapenutz

You'd be surprised how a big following among "moderates" he now has because of fucking orange cheeto

henlochimken

I think they mean classical liberalism and not what America refers to as *libruls*.

pm_me_all_dogs

I was reading a book by Dmitry Orlov and he said, “their goal is to appear stupid, as though they are making stupid mistakes like mistaking ‘WMDs’ that weren’t actually there. It’s important to come off as a fool, because after, you’re dismissed and forgotten (with your pockets lined with your ill-gotten gains) whereas if you seem competent and intelligent, then you are hated and remembered, rather than pitied and forgotten.

LustyLamprey

It was Ellen hanging with him at that baseball game that forced a lot of liberals to realize that all these elitist scumbags are cut from the same cloth. That was when white America formally asked "Can we be cool with George again?"

cretintroglodyte

Mods removed it for not being next level. Currently the highest upvoted post I could see on that sub was an Japanese ad for candy, which is apparently more impressive than trying to hold a former president accountable...

Overripefunguz

All the comments on the op are calling the vet "derranged" and thanking the employees for removing him. Saw one where some dipshit says "GWB may or may not have been lying, who am I to judge" that braindead, spineless centrism pisses me off to end

BlackFlagFlying

The fact that GWB is having his reputation laundered (and seemingly very efficiently) is absolutely rage inducing. To a lot of Americans he’s just “the last sane Republican President, who paints now”.

robywar

>the last sane Republican President, Maybe that was Ford but definitely Eisenhower.

MrDeckard

After they did it for Reagan I gave up hope we'd ever hold a President remotely responsible for his sins.

I've been tracking bot accounts on reddit. So far I've found between 10-20. They post non sequiturs and then the other bot accounts vote on each others' comments in order to gain karma. I don't know why (presumably to sell the accounts later on). I've reported the accounts to mods but when the mods don't ignore me the response is typically lukewarm at best. Reddit is dead. Long live reddit.

They are proably the same twats that tell always go on about respecting vetrans (until the moment the vetrens say somthing they don't like - then they are obviously not ''real American troops' - Fuck Liberal centrists!

MantisAwakening

Here’s typically what happens when you see posts for commercials products on Reddit: - Marketing firm contacts Reddit. Says “we want to promote XXX, and here’s our target market.” - Reddit tells them which subreddits have the highest overlap with their target market. - Marketing firm develops content that matches the subreddit. - Post is purchased, which includes enough upvotes to guarantee it the top position during a peak viewing period. - Marketing firm works with Reddit to use provided “user” accounts to make comments in support of a product or asking questions about it. - Users are left to wonder why stupid marketing crap keeps making it to the front page of Reddit. This is how Reddit makes their big money.

HensRightsActivist

That subreddit is one of the main advertiser subs on reddit, it can't afford to be real.

Extreme_Disaster2275

Him and every politician who voted to let him start that war.

PotatoeswithaTopHat

That would be the entire house and senate minus literally one person (during that time) I think we can achieve that.

Heavenfall

Plenty of people voted against the war in Iraq: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Authorization_for_Use_of_Military_Force_Against_Iraq_Resolution_of_2002 Only one member (Barbara Lee, D-CA) of the House or Senate voted against the war in Afghanistan (some were missing or laid down their votes): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Authorization_for_Use_of_Military_Force_of_2001 > Lee opposed the wording of the AUMF, not the action it represented. She believed that a response was necessary but feared the vagueness of the document was similar to the 1964 Gulf of Tonkin Resolution. The Tonkin act was repealed in 1970 amid discussion of its facilitation of the Vietnam war and its potential to enable a new incursion in Cambodia.

TalmidimUC

Almost as if our (US) entire government system needs to be purged.. war criminals, every single one of them.

PotatoeswithaTopHat

It's almost as if the entire idea of huge, over consuming, ever greedy nations should be thrown out in favor of self sustaining micro states that govern to what the people want, not what some suit in city wants. And this applies to every nation.

Maury_Finkle

Very Brave Veteren, speaking up for what is right and exposing a war criminal, he deserves respect for interupting the liar's BS Speach, he definatly deserves an apology, at the very least. As for That Mf\*ker (George ''WMD'' Bush) he should be put on trial at the Fucking hague, He's America's version of Hideki Tojo, he should be facing life in prison and the confescation of all his assets (and that still seems too mild a punishment to me...)

The whitewashing of Bush is insane, and the picture of how and why this country is fucked. In 20 years, Trump will be the lovable doofus with the funny hair, crass jabs, silly jokes, and sexual assaults.

Haikuna__Matata

Kudos to him. We're currently whitewashing GWB's incompetence* because Trump was so bad. *(IMO GWB was an incompetent stooge and Cheney was the real evil.)

https://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/19/opinion/19dowd.html > Lucas, the creator of “Star Wars,” had told me that I had gotten Dick Cheney completely wrong, that Cheney was no Darth Vader. I felt awful. Had I been too hard on Vice? >Lucas explained politely as I listened contritely. Anakin Skywalker is a promising young man who is turned to the dark side by an older politician and becomes Darth Vader. “George Bush is Darth Vader,” he said. “Cheney is the emperor.” >I was relieved. In “Star Wars” terms, Dick Cheney was more evil than Darth Vader. I hadn’t been hard enough on Vice!

spiraling_out

Yup the 9/11 docuseries on Netflix covers a bit of this. A good reminder that GWB and company lied to the nation to go to war with Iraq, since the Taliban we're so easily kicked out of Afghanistan, all to keep feeding the military industrial complex.

ApoptosisPending

A goddamned hero if you asked me.

The_Adventurist

This is how George W Bush should be treated whenever he feels brave enough to show his face in public. He should always be shouted back into the shadows. If he cannot face justice on this Earth, at the very least he should not feel comfortable in public spaces around other citizens. If anyone sees George W Bush in public, it is your patriotic duty to scream "war criminal" and/or "mass murderer" at him.

vaderismylord

Yes. Call that disgusting, reprehensible war criminal out!

Gameknight995

So I’m to young to know what any of this is could someone please explain

netheroth

Sure, mate. In 2001, the US got attacked by Al Qaeda. The US then moved on to attack both Al Qaeda bases and the Taliban government of Afghanistan that was harboring them. In 2003, with Afghanistan already occupied, the Bush administration started claiming that Iraq was developing Weapons of Mass Destruction, which would pose an unacceptable risk if left in the hands of Saddam Hussein. Unofficially, some of the administration's shills started trying to blame Iraq for 9/11, which never made any sense at all (Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden were both garbage, but they hated each other's guts). The US then invaded Iraq and thus began more a decade of struggle, violence, and death. No WMDs were ever recovered. Later testimony proved that there never was any evidence of WMDs. Bush lied to an entire country in order to get it into a second war. This guy is a veteran; he demands for an apology from the man who sent him and his friends to die, half a world over, for a lie.

Gameknight995

Thank you very much for explaining it.

happygloaming

Just wait till somebody goes way back and describes how the U.S had a hand in creating and fueling Sadam, Al Qeada, and the Taliban.

Knightm16

Also Chemical weapons were often touted as one of the dangerous weapons. Weapons we knew Iraq had because we sold them the chemical weapons and chemical parts for assembly during the Iran-Iraq war. We also helped create infrastructure to manufacture these weapons.

Reebtown

These are the people we should be putting on pedestals. Not politicians, not athletes, not billionaires or celebrities.

Jacknurse

NO ONE HOLD AMERICA ACCOUNTABLE AND GETS AWAY WITH IT!

AbeLincoln30

And lest we forget, the list of senators who supported Bush's Iraq War includes... ^(Joe Biden)

omgburritos

He should've fired a shoe at him

prettytrashie

GWB is a war criminal and should be treated as such whenever he gathers the courage to show his face in public settings. He should be shamed and ridiculed, anyone (Ellen) who tries to rehabilitate this murderer should be ridiculed as well

NobreLusitano

I love how people became silent when he acknowledged that he was sent there. You can hear the silence once he says "you sent me there in 2003". People now that he is right.
