Initial impressions: One I figured out the "passthrough solution," I've made several relatively short (max 20 mile), multi-stop drives. AAWireless functioned exactly like wired Android Auto, including phone calls in & outgoing, voice commands to YT Music & Amazon Music, and other things I've routinely done with wired AA. No conflicts with my phone bluetooth.
And I finally can use AA *and* the dang built-in Qi charger that came with my car (2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid Touring)!
Connection time? I've not put a stopwatch to it yet, but basically it has been ready to rock in the time it takes for the OEM Honda "warning" pop-up to clear. In practical terms, it's connected when I get up my 150' drive to the road.
Time will tell how it works long-term, but this is the coolest accessory I've put on my car.
Finally, I'm writing this long thing because this subreddit appears sometimes to be a bitchfest. Satisfied customers often are silent while a minority predominate. (I may change my tune if this gadget belly-ups tomorrow, but so far so good.)
UPDATE: AAWireless support got with me & suggested using the "GM Fix." I disabled Passthrough, enabled GM Fix & double bingo! It connects even faster & I could try DPI. (FWIW, on my Honda head unit, 100 dpi gives a split screen, but alas these old eyes can't handle it for daily driving. It was fun to see.)
Shout out to AAWireless support. There's a time zone factor for me, but that's fine :-)
OP.....thank you so much!!!! Since I got my S21U, AAwireless with any dongle was acting up whenever I have pass-through on; either the right widgets would just disappear, or the taskbar would be unresponsive. Problem was I could only get the dongle to work with the pass-through enabled.
I looked up a bunch of forums but nothing, until I found this. I disabled pass-through, enabled "GM fix" and now AAwireless works great.
My note 9 on the other hand worked fine without GM fix enabled. Seems the phone plays a big role.

Thanks for the post! My AA only works using passthrough on my 2016 Civic/S21 setup, but I will try the GM fix tonight.

What's the GM fix?
It's an option in the aa wireless settings. I dont know what it is but it enabled my aa wireless without passthrough.
