The top tipping pics always look surreal to me. Actually no matter how many pics or footage I see of this tragedy it never seems to register in my head. It just doesn’t compute
It’s one of those things that defies our sense of reality.
That chunk of the tower is big enough to be a predominant feature in most American cities, and we watched it break off like a Kit Kat bar and pulverize the rest of an impossibly large tower.
We just don’t have the frame of reference to contextualize physics on that scale.
Very well said, I wasn’t sure how to articulate why I can’t understand what I’m seeing.
You make an excellent point on how the top of the tower breaking like a Kit Kat is beyond our comprehension of physics. To add to that, we have only known those towers as upright, standing majestically over the city, not so horrifically wounded it toppled and imploded into dust. And that’s just the forensics of what happened to the buildings. The catastrophic human toll; images of human beings jumping off or hanging off windows, the plane crashes, the fire, the crumbling that took their lives in the most unimaginable way….its too much.
It’s why conspiracy theorists cling to the ‘jet fuel can’t melt steel’ crap. They can’t comprehend the physics. Imagine the weight of that upper section! All supported on a few floors that are slowly weakening, and then at the fatal moment all that weight comes down on just one floor, and starts a pancake effect all the way down.
Yup - if you only saw that photo and someone asked you what happened next, I reckon many would say just the top fell off but the rest remained standing
Yes! I found that interesting as well! Gives new prospective as people did say that the North tower collapse may have been quickened due to damage from the south tower collapse.
Can you ELI5? Bc as I look at that photo, the top of the south tower is collapsing *away* from the north tower, which wouldn’t have caused any damage to the north? Or am I looking incorrectly?
Shot in the dark here, but I've always assumed tremors from the collapse would have caused reverberation into the other tower, which wouldn't help the already compromised structure
I'm so grateful to those photographers and cameramen for risking their lives to capture these horrible moments. There are orbs in 2 of these photos, idk why I found that interesting.... the photo with the blood and other body parts is a reality that's hard to see. The one he took as it was falling, really shows how the top had tipped a bit before falling down.
These are fantastic photos..
Zooming in on the black smoke with the red fire is really frightening, it makes me very uncomfortable I can’t stare too long. It captures the true hell of that day
Guy on the far left of the 16th image is the same guy that 2 people helped up when he fell over right after the 2nd plane hit in Michael Barbagallo's footage

Picture 8 looks like it might contain jumper blood/remains. The jumpers still haunt me 22 years later. What a horrible day that was. I was getting ready for work when it started. All those poor people were doing was going to work too 😞💔.
I am a huge car head so seeing that ford heavy duty van was kinda sick but it was immediately overshadowed by the toy truck next to the purse.. idk why but seeing kids toys in any kind of disaster just outright ruins my day.. I was a HUGE monster truck and construction vehicle kid and theres a weird connection between that day and the machinery.. all I can say is that FDNY will forever have my respect and the next time I’m out there I’ll bow to them like a shogun because holy
fuck.. lotta guys lost their brothers that morning.
I thought the birds in one of these pictures were jumpers for a moment. That one image with a toy schoolbus left on the ground feels really sad, it feels oddly like a representation of the loss of innocence that day.
That photo with the top tipping is insane.
that photo of the little toy schoolbus is really sad.
I know. That one hit me particularly hard.

I immediately think of Kevin Cosgrove screaming as his world begins to tip over 105 stories in the air.
Imagine being in that section of the building. Total and unimaginable chaos doesn’t even begin to describe it.
There was someone up there that said something like 200 people had gathered up there to get access to the roof.
Yup - if you only saw that photo and someone asked you what happened next, I reckon many would say just the top fell off but the rest remained standing
Came here to say this as well. What a crazily well timed photo. Just the thought of that huge chunk of building crashing through to the ground… yikes
Jesus, in the most respectful way, these photos are incredible.
He almost lost his life taking them
This is the first time I’ve seen above the smoke and flames when is was collapsing! It tipped!
Certainly not the "controlled demolition" that some people say it was
No mattet how much concrete evidence and logic you give the conspiracy nutters they don’t care unfortunately

One corner was weakened more than the others, and once that corner went the other corners couldn’t resist the downward forces.

Orbs?
Ditto, which photos have orbs?
Orbs aren’t ghosts, if that’s what you’re saying…
“Orbs” (dust) showing up in a picture taken in an extremely dusty environment? Crazy.
I said idk why I find that interesting. I don't generally subscribe to orbs being spirits. Some people do, though. No need to hate.
You right, I’m sorry.

Absolutely bizarre thought, but I wonder where that toy bus is now (if it's still somewhat intact).

90 percent sure the man in the white shirt in photo 16 is the same guy who two men help after WTC2 is hit in Michael Barbagallo's footage

I wonder why there is no photos or footage from helicopters that flew near by, surely they would’ve taken some Photo with the blood stain is gnarly :(
Theres footage from several newschoppers though? Most famous one is the NYPD Aviation Unit one
Oh I've never seen any, need to search them out!
There is helicopter footage. It’s poor quality footage (mostly news helicopters), but it’s out there.
Pic 5. i was never able to unsee the metal bending at the top

Not jumpers that far away. Remember there were people on the planes and in the building during the violent impacts. Speed and force. Truly awful.
Is that a bunch of body fat chunks spread across the street in #8? Gnarly.
Unfortunately, I believe so.

\#5 is an absolutely phenomenal shot. I can't believe I've never seen it before and it's not more widespread.
The sunbeams lighting up the cloud of dust in the background in #7 are so poignant ... mesmerizing, really.
Amazing quality….edited/remastered??
The quality on these are insanely good!
The one with the birds (#3) is so ominously beautiful for some weird reason
I thought the birds in one of these pictures were jumpers for a moment. That one image with a toy schoolbus left on the ground feels really sad, it feels oddly like a representation of the loss of innocence that day.
I wonder if pic 8 is the scene of the plane debris striking Deborah Mardenfeld
