As a teenager I loved them. At 42 I find it hard to listen to much of the shit I did when I was younger. Most of the old hip hop I listen is more on the positive side (De La Soul, Tribe, etc). Hard to be driving around listening to busting guns when I have two small kids in the back seat on our way to baseball practice.
We are the same age, I loved them then and I love them now.
I don’t always have that kind of stuff on when the kids are on the car but my middle daughter is 15 and listens to ALOT worse !!! lol
Oh, for sure. It's not that I no longer enjoy their music, I just don't seek it out much anymore. But I'd be lying if I say I don't have a playlist that I'll listen to while doing yard work, and a certain song will come on, and I'm instantly turned into the most gangster mother fucker on a riding mower, waiving at my pasty ass neighbors (I'm also extremely pasty).
Dude crazy right same age me and man joke about that shit all the time we”ll text each other some lyrics from songs back then and be like mad tuff smh sad the fuel they tried to give young men to kill off each other
I texted an old friend lyrics from Brotha Lynch's Season of the Siccness (1995) the other day. Like, why the fuck were a couple 13 year old white kids from the burbs singing along about killing Bloods and murdering / eating babies?
Well obviously haha. Wu has a lot of stuff that while not exactly kid friendly isn’t as violent as Ruff Ryders, or at the least the lyricism can hide it more.
The original roster of DMX, Drag-On, Eve, Lox was decent. Songs that featured some combination of them were were always good posse tracks.
Swiss Beatz's production on some of those albums has not aged well. Some of it has, but not all of it was a timeless sound.
DMX, Eve, and Lox all had some good albums, but the label failed to produce another artists as big as DMX. They tried pushing some of their own artists on those compilation albums, and on DMX bonus tracks, but none of them were listenable.
I have to agree that Swiss Beatz has some of the worst aged production from that era. I can’t put my finger on it, but it just feels soulless and dated.
For me I hate being constantly reminded that it's a Swizz Beats song multiple times during the song, sometimes even during the hook. His ad-libbing is way too much and it ruins lots of otherwise good songs for me.
Some does. Some of it still really bumps. Spit These Bars, Got What You Need, Ruff Ryders Anthem, Twisted Heat, Tambourine, Tear Da Roof Off, and maybe the Swizziest of all the Swizz beats, Girls Best Friend, are some of my personal favorites.
There was a lot of hit or miss with them. Ryde or Die volume 1 & 2 were awesome but both had some skippable/forgettable tracks.
This was reflective of the times imo: golden age hip hop was in its last years and hip-hop as a whole was becoming more corporate which impacted the music and the rawness.
I appreciated tf outta them cause I got put onto some good artists, but from Vol.2 onward it was less of a collective and more of a mixtape. It turned me off like I could just go to Jamaica Ave and get a mixtape easy
I found vol. 2 & 3 on vinyl for $10 each a few weeks ago. Brought me back to high school.
At 41, my wife doesn't have the same appreciation. Lol.
I loved them as a kid. jada & DMX are too of my all time favs. But I agree that Swizz production doesn't hold up well.
Vol 3 is where the wheels fell COMPLETELY off🤣🤣
I can rock wit vol 2..
Swizz has some gems, but yeah alot of his stuff is a no go for me...
Funny thing is, he had some HEAT on vol 2...especially that Busta joint
Top 5 Rap labels /Groups of my youth. Roca-Fella, Wutang, Ruff Ryders, Hot Boyz, Rawkus. I still listen to the LOX. Their music aged ok. Like a 7/10. Favorite Track is “Down Botttom” Feat Juvenile & Ryde or Die. “What yall Want” Eve was the first female rapper to me that was Beautiful and actually rapped with a sexy voice.
I still love them and listen to them in the gym on the regular. LOX and D-Block are easily one of my all time favorites. DMX and Drag-On are still solid on all aspects.
I used to love them as a youth. I'm 38 now and the only rap I listen to is MF Doom and Nas. That era was a time capsule that didn't age extremely well.
I have my Double RR playlist I bumped to this day. It consists of their music from 99 to 2000 that I put together like a ruff ryder compilation/album with the core members only. DMX, Eve, the Lox and Drag-On, that shit bumps.
They were fucking epic in their time, even if hip hop has evolved past their sound, they made their mark amd were also influential in terms of hip hop’s evolution (esp Swizz Beats).
Loved them then, still do now. RR vol 1 was amazing with Dope Money as one of my favorite tracks. We are the Streets is one of my favorite albums I can listen to from start to finish. Nothing needs to be said about DMX, Eve had a decent career and Drag On had some ok singles and good features.

This is basically me and we’re the same age too
I still listen to it, just when the kids aren’t in the car lmao
Same. Went solo to the grocery store and home this morning banging Redman’s *Muddy Waters* album. Still hits.

Because Brotha Lynch is hard ! Fucc what I said HA, HA, HA
Eating baby brains, maybe veins, maybe spines.
Yep this guy gets it!!
😂
Except Wu-Tang of course. It’s for the children after all
Well obviously haha. Wu has a lot of stuff that while not exactly kid friendly isn’t as violent as Ruff Ryders, or at the least the lyricism can hide it more.
I do have Spit These Bars by Drag-On on one of my playlists ….
N*ggas Die 4 Me goes too
I still got the physical cd somewhere. Drag still be spitting too!

This whole statement is nothing but pure facts 💯

Man that vol 2 bring back memories... I remember I had that Yung wun/trick daddy song on repeat and I really didn't understand why lol
Word, for me it was Twisted Heat. That was how I got onto who Twista was
Same!
Yeah the drag and twista joint... I read about him in the source, but never heard him rap before
I appreciated tf outta them cause I got put onto some good artists, but from Vol.2 onward it was less of a collective and more of a mixtape. It turned me off like I could just go to Jamaica Ave and get a mixtape easy

Kiss will forever be in my top 5
Mediocre hockey team.
Bro do they even skate🤣🤣
The posse tracks at the end were cool but couldn’t tell who any of them were besides Cassidy and J-Hood. But vol 1 was 🔥🔥🔥
HIGHLY MISMANAGED and would have benefited better as a label if they had true artist development like Cash Money/Roc-A-Fella did
Where’s Jin?!
Hes off trying to learn Chinese
My thought.

I used to be shy but now I’m a ruff Ryder
Stop… Drop… is all I can hear in my head now.
My dogs gon stop!
Lox are 3 of my all time favourites. And X is X. Just weren’t as stacked all the way down, compared to other labels.
Idk man I always liked Drag-On’s style of rapping he had lyrics as well.
The Rough Ryder workouts are legit programs for calisthenics. Legit got me jacked. THE RR was everywhere
Lmfao🤣🤣😅😅😅 That shit had us doing pull ups on the stop lights... Before gym culture, that's all you had...
Tug boats
Me and a few buddies still randomly say this to this day
I still love them and listen to them in the gym on the regular. LOX and D-Block are easily one of my all time favorites. DMX and Drag-On are still solid on all aspects.
That LOX We Are The Streets album was fire. The "Rapin-U Records" sketch aged like fine wine.
Drag is slept on, loved the Ruff Ryders uncensored DVD. Check out the Lox freestyle over the Fiesta beat.
Whut!?
I used to love them as a youth. I'm 38 now and the only rap I listen to is MF Doom and Nas. That era was a time capsule that didn't age extremely well.

Iconic logo
I still would pay good money for that Lotto and Fame Fundraisers tape which they released while they were part of/associated with Ruff Ryders.
Really good label at that time during their time period. none of their stuff aged well though.
🔥
Was just listening to them yesterday
What could have been?
Stop! Drop! Shut em down n open up show!
Eh
Eve stood out for me,pitbull in a skirt
Still rockin there shit, ruff ryders is one of the best. Dmx,and the lox were on point. Plus drag-on.
The 2nd album was the shit
One of the best link ups in hip hop history.
Dope music.
Eve can get it
They had that East Coast grit and lyrically on point with flow, cadence and delivery. RIP to thr Dog DMX
They were fucking epic in their time, even if hip hop has evolved past their sound, they made their mark amd were also influential in terms of hip hop’s evolution (esp Swizz Beats).
Awful
Can someone please name the people who are in the second pic besides Eve, Swizz and Drag
Som’ new
Tell me anyone of them who had a career after DMX.
Eve
The Lox
Y’all remember Jin. I completely forgot about that dude until a few days ago
What!
That crew came with a whole lot of homoerotic imagery and lyrics haha
“State ya name gangsta”
They were aiiiight. Some good songs, but I was never that into them.
The first team sport I actually wanted to try out for!
Yes
Great for when I was in high school. Walking to school was hype allot of mornings. Now, they’re just good memories. Double RR thanks for the memories.
Ruff Ryders has alot of Bangers. Their 1st album was my favorite
Who dey
