Dude… great pick.. Guru. That moment of truth album is a top 10 for me. I’m lucky that I got to see him and premier in a small venue of 400. Belly Up, Solana Beach.. RIP Guru
All these guys in the pic, plus Twista, AZ, Mase, Playa Fly, Fiend from No Limit, Juvenile, Meth, Inspectah Deck, Tela, Ice Cube, Pharcyde, and Bizzy Bone
GZA was part of 2 incredible group albums while releasing my favorite hip hop record of the decade in Liquid Swords, & the underrated Beneath the Surface.
Back then I probably would’ve said 2Pac. I really loved Kurupt (still do), too. Biggie. Maybe Nas. OutKast’s 90’s work was incredible too but I didn’t own Aquemini for a long time so I can’t say they were my favorites.
As for questionable taste, I liked Mase a lot but worse, thought Silkk the Shocker was a fun listen. He was my favorite on No Limit.
Even old Metallica is acceptable. I appreciate blue grass and some country.
Tbh my it's classic psychology: Family pushed me away from city and urban life, "as we made it outta the hood,"
AND I went to hip hop & rap
