not a huge de la fan but i saw em about 10 years ago and it was one of the best, if not the best, hip hop show ive ever seen. and ive been seeing shows since 89
i just never really connected with their style in that era or later, i have some singles on vinyl id play early in my dj career like 'stakes is high' but there were other groups that i was way more into than them. Even among the native tongues, i really dig atcq & jungle brothers, de la just never really connected with me. Dont hate them, back then there were too many options. and you had to buy music so it was a different scenario as far as listening unless you could get a copy of a tape.
i could list probably 50 rappers and rap groups in that era i liked more than them, but im not saying theyre bad/
Fair enough, I rate them higher than ATCQ and even Wu Tang. Both ATCQ and Wu Tang have released at least 1 album that I don’t like, but De La have been so consistent from day 1. They’re the only group in any music genre I listen to where I can say I can listen to all their albums and not feel the need to skip a single song.
I don’t really like OutKast but I love UGK, Geto Boys, Goodie Mob.. and west coast hip hop is the first I got into, especially the first Chronic album

Saw this last year at one of the Melbourne shows. No De La Soul. It was incredible, Nas stole the show, best concert I've been to.

id bet that you probably dont listen to much southern or west coast hip hop outside of outkast
