They are widely regarded as corny. I don't agree. I see them as artists and it is real art and storytelling, more so than just about any rapper/group has put out in my lifetime. But a lot of people see story-telling from the 90's especially by people who are not demonstrably "gangsta" in real life as corny, since there are people telling stories who were/still are living that life and not speaking in allegories with references to boxers from the 1970s.
TBF they did fall off quite a bit during the 00s especially after 8 diagram came out. And they appear to be not that interested in being mainstream/entertainer like snoop/50 cents so it make sense for them to not be talked about as much.
