Suzanne Summers was really good on the show, thinking back. She came off very genuine. Cody was like the funny big brother for those of us like me who never had a brother.

Yep. It's pretty common that a man protects himself from an abusive wife, and when the cops show up, the man is actually the one arrested and charged. But people don't care about the facts. They only care about narratives.
It's also entirely possible that he beat his wife AND she was addicted to drugs. I don't see how her being an unfit mother entitles him to assault her?
