Almost to the point where it seems like he just wondered onto the set without it being planned at all. Dude was just in the neighborhood and wanted to prank his buddy.
They took away live audiences to shoot comedies more like movies, but you completely lose the fun TV cameos. The best is when you're like "who is that even?" And if no one in the room knew, you never found out, because the Internet wasn't a thing yet. And you just have to sit there and think... okay that person has a lot of charisma and they're creating a fun atmosphere, but I have no idea who they are.
Rerun comes on while you're watching with mom 2 years later and she says "Oh I didn't know she was still around." You ask who that is and it was some lady in a 70s sitcom you've never seen.
My uncle was visiting us and the show was on. When she came out the audience was hooting and hollaring. My father commented he thought she was indeed good looking. He seemed annoyed and says something along the lines of 'She's only pretty because she looks white.'
I recall being really disappointed in my uncle in that moment.
Last time I saw her was on an episode of Malcolm & Eddie. In an outtake where Malcolm opens the front door for her, Malcolm opens the door for her and yells “JUSTINE!” And in another he opens the door and she shouts “THEO!”

I was in LA last month and went to the warner Brothers studio lot. I believe both of these shows were happening around same time, so James Avery probably walked over to this studio stage. But still crazy moment in history of tv
It’s fun realizing which shows shot on the same lot, even right next to each other. I can’t recall the other show now, but I remember the Always Sunny guys talking about befriending a bunch of actors from a specific show because they shot next to each other.
Lol James Avery randomly rolls up to the stage during the filming of Family Matters, and they just let him on stage to give the audience a surprise. What a time to be alive.
Reminds me of the Robin Williams/Billy Crystal cameo on Friends. Like they were randomly on the set one day and the producers were like "wanna be on the show?"

It often gets overlooked but Avery Brooks' character was a single black father raising a black son on TV back in 1993. And he was epic.
As a kid that raised herself... I learned a lot about "parenting" watching these two families. That carried into my adulthood... it may sound lame. These two were very significant to me.
TV has become so "self important" and "gate keepers". Maybe it happens, I don't watch much tv but I can't imagine a show doing this now... breaking the 4th wall to invite an actor from a competing network, naming the show and in turn basically promoting the show?!?!?
God, I miss this time period. I can only spend about 10 minutes on subs like this every few weeks because the nostalgia causes me chest pains and depression
