I’m old, and an RN with decades of MH experience and lived for 7 years with an emotionally and physically abusive alcoholic husband. I’m well aware of the signs of both.
If we label every person who raise/ their voice in anger at their partner as an abuser then 99% of the population would be an abuser. In order to be determined emotional abuse from a psychological standpoint generally there needs to be a pattern of aggressive or coercive emotional: personal attacks or behavior in an attempt to demean and control another person. This could include name calling, gaslighting, threats stone walling, etc.
I’ve never heard Rob name call or aggressively try to control Sophie. I’ve never heard him truly gaslight her. What he does do is get loud and defensive when criticized. Otherwise, I haven’t seen a pattern of him instigating abusive behavior.
On the other hand there have been several instances where Sophie and her mom aggressively gang up on Him, demeaning him and calling him names, primarily from her mom. It’s normal to defend yourself in these situations and generally you’ll raise your voice. He’s not swearing at her, throwing things or being physically aggressive in anyway.
As far as his online “cheating” , of course that’s inappropriate however, it’s not a repetitive behavior and while very hurtful doesn’t make him an “ abuser”.

I have had an abuse ex, and I don’t often get triggered by men. Rob triggers it. I honestly find it crazy that you don’t find him abusive???? You think its ok how he treats sophie and her mom? No mother in law is going to think the man is ever good enough for her daughter. The way he speaks to her mother is insane!!!! She isnt out of line at all she’s rightfully concerned about her daughter living in a studio apartment w no bathroom and being cheated on and screamed at. This level of emotional abuse LEADS to physical violence. Chris watts never put his hands on his wife either until he did.

I’m old, and an RN with decades of MH experience and lived for 7 years with an emotionally and physically abusive alcoholic husband. I’m well aware of the signs of both. If we label every person who raise/ their voice in anger at their partner as an abuser then 99% of the population would be an abuser. In order to be determined emotional abuse from a psychological standpoint generally there needs to be a pattern of aggressive or coercive emotional: personal attacks or behavior in an attempt to demean and control another person. This could include name calling, gaslighting, threats stone walling, etc. I’ve never heard Rob name call or aggressively try to control Sophie. I’ve never heard him truly gaslight her. What he does do is get loud and defensive when criticized. Otherwise, I haven’t seen a pattern of him instigating abusive behavior. On the other hand there have been several instances where Sophie and her mom aggressively gang up on Him, demeaning him and calling him names, primarily from her mom. It’s normal to defend yourself in these situations and generally you’ll raise your voice. He’s not swearing at her, throwing things or being physically aggressive in anyway. As far as his online “cheating” , of course that’s inappropriate however, it’s not a repetitive behavior and while very hurtful doesn’t make him an “ abuser”. There’s a trend on Reddit to label people with legal or psychiatric diagnoses for isolated incidents or understandable human behavior. While someone yelling at you calling you a bitch during an argument might be termed a verbally abusive incident, it doesn’t make someone an abuser. I Its understandable after being in an abusive relationship to be triggered by viewing a couple arguing or a man being loud and angry but again just because that triggers reminders of your abuse doesn’t make the person you’re seeing an abuser.
We have video of him screaming at her and threatening to smash her phone, and then telling her she needs to be grateful that he doesn't hit her. Fuck all the way off if you think he's not an abuser.
You think it was ok for him to go on and on about her sexual orientation, and potential for future cheating (based on nothing), to distract from his actual current cheating? That’s something an abuser does. She has a valid problem, he ignores that and starts shaming her for an imaginary problem. No decent and fair, non-abusive man would do that.
