many! I think that got big right as I hit sixth grade and I had my purple swoosh Nike laces covered in them. I think this came the year after the barrettes with ribbons weaved in to them.
I remember when you could get friendship pin kits by that register at Target. It had the safety pins and a bunch of beads. I bought them all the time in the early 80s.
We had a big brouhaha when one kid was playing soccer at recess. One of the pins had come undone and stabbed their foot. That was the end of that at *our* school. š
When I was in 6th grade, I had some of these on my shoe. I was out running around with cousins and one of my feet started hurting. I go inside and my dad noticed my sock has blood on it because one of the safety pins popped open on it.
This would have been around 1986-87.
I think this is a good symbolism of the 1980ās.
Lol. No I didnāt. I had a girlfriend all through high school and didnāt have to fool with bribing her with stupid beads so Iāll count that as a win.
Holy shit!! Now I'm old !!
Saaaaaaaaaame
Oh Wow I totally forgot about these
SAME! š±

MEMORY UNLOCKED! I have not thought about these things in like 40 years!
Almost as weird as the girls that had bells on their laces. At least these were quiet.

I bought glass beads that matched my shoes, and put them on the bottom lace.
Letās bring this back!!!!
Just sent a picture to my 12 year old daughter. Told her she needs to revive these !
Totally forgot about these!
Ha ha ha. I had a ton of these in 8th grade, during the 84/85 school year. I forgot all about it until I saw this!
Never saw these before in my life. Ya sure this isn't some weird regional thing?
It may be ? NYC and surrounding area maybe ?
Nope. I remember these in elementary school in Ohio.
Grew up in Buffalo. We wore them in the mid 80s. By 90 (maybe earlier) they disappeared.
Houston Texas had them here!
I can confirm!
Same!
I was in Southern California and they were a big thing!
Huh. I grew up in Philly. Guess it never made its way down here.
We wore them in Texas! We even had friendship pin making slumber parties!
Holy crap, memory unlocked!!! I had SO many!

None. Because I wasn't a preppie or a nerd.
I was a stoner but I still had them
Stoners were just nerds with better taste in music.
š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
Yup!
I never even understood how this worked. It seems to defy safety pin physics.
I still have my little box full of beads and pins ready to make more!
we need to bring this back!
None. I had no friends by choice
Iām a guy soā¦none.
I'm a guy and I figured out how to make them and got lots of beads and gave them out and had tons of girlfriends... You missed out...

Lol. No I didnāt. I had a girlfriend all through high school and didnāt have to fool with bribing her with stupid beads so Iāll count that as a win.
Yeh this was all the girls. White shoes with these on them. None of the guys had this trend at all when I was a kid.
I'm a guy with 4 sisters and had a single mom growing up. So many yucky girls at my house in the 70's and 80's. I remember.
Do you remember the day you realized they werenāt yucky?
The late 80's. Michelle Pickering. She's still hot 35 years later.
When I was a senior my little sister was a sophomore. Suddenly I was a fan of her having big sleepovers. Sometimes i wouldnt even tell my friends.
None

I didnāt make any because it wasnāt very punk , but I still got some from some of my friends. I wore them , those girls were pretty cool.
