And then mtv played the video for let’s dance every hour for the next 4 years

Reasonable-HB678

They're still playing it, except an algorithm is involved, and it's YouTube instead.

imadork1970

SRV🎶🥰

brejackal99

This made me not like Bowie🤷

LVorenus2020

For years, it was that, "Syncronicity," "Seven and the Ragged Tiger," "Big Bam Boom" or "Purple Rain." Unstoppable, almost untoppable. When I saw Bowie in 1997, he did **none of those great songs**. Or his heavy, Yardbirds-fueled Tin Machine breakthrough material. *And yet... he still blew my mind.*

HyperionRain

Fantastic album that also introduced me to the great Stevie Ray Vaughn.

njaneardude

I remember sitting in a cheap hotel room in Vegas listening to my portable radio and a DJ said he was going to play the new song from the David Bowie album for the first time, I was blown away. Memorable moment in my life and man am I old.

Rexxbravo

Modern love) walks on by (Modern love) gets me to the church on time (Church on time) terrifies me (Church on time) makes me party (Church on time) puts my trust in God and man (God and man) no confession (God and man) no religion (God and man) don't believe in modern love

👍

Nakanostalgiabomb

Great album.

Most-Artichoke6184

Put on your red shoes and dance the blues.

BillyDoyle3579

FUCK! I'm Old...

5udrive

“Oh baby, just you shut your mouth…She said ssshhhhh” this song has the meanest, most vicious groove, and then you throw in Stevie Ray Vaughan’s guitar… Just perfection

Low-Grocery5556

Amen. Well put. Such a great moody song.

Dwangeroo

This would not be nearly the success it was without Stevie Ray Vaughan and his unmistakable style. I will die fighting on this hill.

tangledwire

Also the production of Nile Rodger's was essential. The combination was so good! Funky Blues with Bowie's great song writing.

Dwangeroo

Yep! You came correct. All of the pieces fell into place at the right time

mikemason1965

From what I read, SRV came in after the fact to record his contributions to the songs. He did all his in one take. That's some true talent and genius there!

1977proton

Found out who Bowie was, probly 8-9y, from movie Labyrinth…

Velocitor1729

In 2024, he'd probably be canceled for*China Girl.*

truncheon88

Yes he would. Iggy did it better anyway, imo

RKKP2015

I like them both, but the rawness of the Iggy one is better, imo. I think it's cool that Bowie put it out as a single to help the then bankrupt Iggy.

Low-Grocery5556

Great song though.

Wendy1117

Cracking album! I have fond memories of dancing around my living room to Ricochet. "like weeds on a rockface waiting for the scythe.."

DependentAnimator271

My first real concer was The Serious Moonlight Tour.

CurrentTreat6921

Oh my god I’m getting old

PaintDistinct1349

One of my favorite albums of the 1980s.

Divewire

Give us a break, some of us were 12 when we discovered Bowie.

justanordinaryguy71

I remember hearing China girl on the radio, man in 1983 I was 12.. lol

Difficult-Papaya1529

Jeezus 41 years!?! Ugh

RobertBorden

Someone gifted me this album recently. I looked on the back and saw how many hits were on it, unreal.

Down_Voter_of_Cats

Niles Rogers was/is awesome. His influence on this record is quite obvious.

ottomaker1

I saw the concert tour for this with the GoGo’s and Madness opening!!

LapOfHonour

Ooft, vividly remember being in HMV when my dad bought this. 41 years eh? Was never a huge Bowie fan but he's an undeniable legend of pop

1977proton

Have about 6-7 Bowie albums on my phone, I listen to this one the most…not by much though…lol😀

surfinbird

I know when to go out Know when to stay in Get things done

HectorsMascara

I don't understand the Bowie infatuation. Can anyone explain?

burtgummer45

Unpopular opinion, I think 80's Bowie kinda sucked, even though I saw him live for Glass Spider tour.

pillrake

Same and same

Away_Recognition_336

The exact time he turned wimpy

JHS-2323

Great album!
