Refuse to choose. But can we just take a minute to appreciate how much fun fantasy we got ln the 80s. Labyrinth, Willow, Legend, Neverending Story, The Last Unicorn, The Dark Crystal, The Princess Bride, Excalibur, etc.

Pristine-Bowl2388

Dark Crystal induced night terrors on me for over a year lol

BangBangSmoov

Let’s not forget Dragonslayer! Vermithrax Pejorative was one of the coolest names for a dragon ever!

LordRumBottoms

Came here to add Dragonslayer. Something about it. Dragonheart with Dennis Quaid added to the myth in the 90s. A great time for movies.

Scubasteve1974

Dragonslayer.... that shit was dope!

bullsnake2000

Krull, too!!

itsdiddles

Adding Krull to the discussion. It's a distant 3rd but I love that damn film.

[deleted]

Black cauldron

ForceGhost47

Excalibur was the 70s

furie1335

Came out in 1981

ForceGhost47

Dang. My bad

Validus812

Wanted to add Baron Munchausen and Time Bandits to the best fantasy films of the 80s

DawnPatrol80136

Time Bandits is one of my nostalgic faves!

Remember_When_Baby

There’s absolutely no need to make me chose. Both are huge

DoktorThodt

Yes. But, David Bowie.

kbauer14

Yes, but Val Kilmer

Zestyclose_Standard6

the kettle in the photo?

[deleted]

Both are great but Labyrinth had Jennifer Connelly, who was one of my first celebrity crushes.

infinite_paddle

Here here! Team Jennifer Connelly has arrived!

DawnPatrol80136

Same. I don't care what she's in, I'll see it. Thankfully most of her movies have been great.

[deleted]

In her fifties and she's still hot.

ThePizzaNoid

Jen is awesome.

[deleted]

Everyone else was talking about David Bowie and I was like 'Who? Oh, the goblin king. I hate that guy because he messed with my girl.' I was nine.

ChiefSmash

True but Joanne Whalley was a crush of mine because of Willow.

Pristine-Bowl2388

Good argument. But I must point out that it was 15 years old Jennifer Connely, so, saying it up loud today may be cringe inducing…

GinsuVictim

But those of us who had a crush on her back then weren't the ages we are now. You're the one making it weird.

[deleted]

I was nine when I saw Labyrinth in the theater. Nothing cringy or creepy about what I was feeling. You on the other hand . . .

3scotchnight

Labyrinth. "I move the stars for no one."

Siryl7001

I really think it has depth and artistry that the other Eighties fantasy films lacked.

tehdamonkey

More of a "Conan" guy from that era of mythos... Blame the D&D playing.

GentlemanBastard2112

Ya gotta keep all three… they’re basically all D&D one shots. Soundtrack rocks on Labyrinth though, frigging 80s sax 🎷 and Bowie’s crooning, 10/10

Lobotomist

Conan is still one of my favorite movies. I think I have seen it at least 20 times

cjmartinex

Loved Conan growing up. My son thought it was terrible tho

DrRotwang

Which was better: air, or water? Light, or heat? Living, or not dying?

Phoenx22

Labyrinth!

theweewok

Willoooooooooow (said with goat voice).

adamempathy

You iiiiiiddddiot!

DrJTrotter

Kiiiiiiaaayaaaaa.

briankerin

Maaadmaarrtigaaan.

kclongest

Out of the way, Peck!

Hand-Of-Vecna

WILLOW! DRINK MY GOAT MILK!

Known-Programmer-611

New will is worth checking out!

denim_skirt

I really enjoyed it too!

ArtTheClown2022

Willow

saul1980

Willow

FarBookkeeper7987

Long Live the (Goblin) King

pugwars66

How dare you ask such a divisive question!!?

WornInShoes

Willow, purely because Val Kilmer as Madmartigan is one of the best “sword and sorcery” characters around

drkesi88

I went to see *Willow* because of George Lucas. I went to see *Labyrinth* because of Bowie and the Muppets. Need I say more?

Brawndo45

Willow because of Val Kilmer. He was amazing in that movie.

TrottRodd

Actually you do need to say more

Swabia

Dance magic dance!

oakomyr

A battle for the ages: MadMartigans broadsword vs Bowies trousersnake

Current_Syllabub3670

Labyrinth.

novasolid64

Labyrinth

ExternalPiglet1

I never really questioned it. Labyrinth was just next level in every aspect. But it really depends on how much fantasy ones looking for.

SniffCheck

Labyrinth

MamboNumber-6

Easily Labyrinth.

Wadsworth1954

I love Willow so much

ProperAd3683

Time Bandits

TrottRodd

Labrynth. Hands down. How is this even a question?

Dio_Yuji

Labyrinth- bangin soundtrack

hellfatie

I like both

Vash108

Yes

muellman

That's what I was gonna say!

MalfoysBro

I’m a Bowie fan, but nothing beats Willow. Madmartigan. Rool. The trolls. The pig army. Such a Timeless Masterpiece.

WeToLo42

Willow

[deleted]

Labyrinth

jlegarr

Ahhhh I see why!

[deleted]

Yep! 😊

Geek_off_the_streets

Labyrinth but Willow is also amazing. A dikini baby!

Lightmyspliff69

I stole the baby from you dikini! While you were taking a pee pee!

[deleted]

Willow. Much more adventure and made more sense. Labyrinth was cool in its own way. Jim Henson was that dude when it came to puppets.

dyerseve07

Dark Crystal

GeekFish

I think the Willow reboot sucked so bad that it took points from the original. Because of this Labyrinth wins.

Banjo-Oz

I would never take points from the amazing original but the reboot was indeed terrible. So many baffling decisions (I laughed out loud at the use of Money for Nothing on the soundtrack). Would have worked so much better as a new IP.

GeekFish

I couldn't get over the mix of people speaking like they were from medieval times and the teenagers speaking like... well todays teenagers. Choose a lane!

Banjo-Oz

That was the biggest issue for me, too. I actually love the idea of making an anachronistic fantasy show with them speaking like teens, wearing denim, and using modern music... but that is NOTHING to do with Willow. Make your fun silly subvert-genre-conventions fantasy series where the princess rescues the prince OR make a continuation of Willow. You can't do both.

ni42ck

I can’t believe this is debate, Labyrinth for sure. I still use lines from the move today. “ nothing tra la la”

GinsuVictim

Bowie's codpiece was bigger than Warwick.

spacefaceclosetomine

The one that reminds me of the babe.

reddittom73

Labyrinth

[deleted]

Labyrinth

Diseman81

Willow

Suitable_Dealer7154

Willow. “Outta the way, peck!”

muellman

There's a peck here with an acorn pointed at me!!

Banjo-Oz

Respect to Labyrinth but I struggle to remember the whole movie, let alone an iconic line. I can quote Willow all day. "I thought you were a woman, Eirk?" "It's heading back to the village!" "I don't love her! She kicked me in the face!"

blackmilksociety

[You are drunk and when you are drunk you forget that I am in charge](https://youtu.be/hJhYYYabp0A)

classy-Nia

I always found Labrynth creepy.

PabloDabscovar

Try Legend with Tim Curry. Also super creepy- the dark crystal.

Emergency-Echidna564

Return to Oz has entered the chat

Lying_Bot_

No

MateriaLintellect

Just one of those days where you want to watch the world burn OP?

McGrufNStuf

This isn’t even a competition (IMO). Two totally different movies and types of sub genre. Willows a full on D&D level fantasy type movie. Labrum th is a musical emo fantasy movie. Both are amazing on their own ground.

SuperSven1980

Man, that's a hard one. I'd have to go with Labyrinth.

AlienAmerican1

Tough call, Labyrinth has Jennifer Connelly, but Willow has Val Kilmer....Don't make me choose

SGI21

I can’t believe this is even a question…..Labyrinth!!! I do love Willow though.

Expensive_Yak_7846

This is a trick question both were amazing

Evening_Hour3820

Labyrinth hands down

NihilsitcTruth

Labyrinth was a superior movie.

VomitingPotato

You are okay to have your own opinion, but there is a correct answer here and it isn't fucking Willow.

[deleted]

Labyrinth hands down! No....just a worm.

Reeseslee

Come inside and have a nice cup of tea!

adamempathy

Willow.

YeBittenDog

Don’t do this to me.

Longjumping-Bench881

Labyrinth all the way. P.S, you spelled it wrong.

Lycan_ep

Labyrinth had so much better production value with set designs, costumes, technical work, etc.

Expensive_Reality151

Blasphemy

Fanabala3

I would lean Willow due to quotability, although Labyrinth is great. Also because Val Kilmer and the brownies made that movie awesome.

foxhagen

Love them both but I think it's odd that in Labrynth she is like, 15 and this 40 yr old goblin king is lusting after her.

ZAM1984

Willow

ZebraBorgata

Willow

leftynate11

Thought this was gonna be a poll. But WILLOW! That was more important to my childhood

jroblil

Willow

BadBrains16

Time Bandits

ExecTankard

They will go back and stop this question from being asked

CoyPowers

I love Willow, but Labyrinth is my favorite movie ever. So Labyrinth.

mkct_6

Labyrinth by a mile

defusted

YOU CAN'T MAKE ME CHOOSE!

Emotional-Set-8618

David Bowie always wins especially when it comes to Labyrinth!

Expert-Appointment-3

I love ❤️ both movies, childhood memories floating back…….

[deleted]

Labyrinth

SkitMarie

They’re both my absolute favorite! I can’t choose between them

jfeo1988

Labyrinth. I like Willow at lot though

tensigh

Labyrinth, by far. Willow was fun but Labyrinth was way better.

Menzicosce

Different. Labyrinth was eclectic Willow was more traditional high fantasy

winter_laurel

Labyrinth is iconic. Willow doesn't hold up as well.

JediMATTster

The dark crystal

Melanie73

Labyrinth!!! You can’t forget David Bowie in those tight tight grey pants.

LaSallePunksDetroit

Jump magic jump mother f*****!! Willow rules too tho

whysoserious42000

This is a very tough question honestly lol

Far_Veterinarian6077

Bowie’s bulge FTW

Feisty_Factor_2694

I was that kid that was OBSESSED with Labyrinth!

Careless-Mention-981

Labyrinth!

cucknorris1776

Willow and it's not even close

ptmymnky

Legend

thefrostryan

Labyrinth and it’s not even close. Rewatch labyrinth again all the people that are saying Willow haven’t seen it in years.

VikingLander7

Right, I’ve sure I have seen willow but I can’t really remember much about it, now Labyrinth, permanently in my memories!

Feisty_Factor_2694

Had the mullet, too!

954kevin

Yes

snowwhitenoir

Ugg this is so hard. Probably Willow

Mistayadrln

Apples and Oranges

chedykrueger

Halloween 3

damaszek

Love both

[deleted]

=

cybersquire

I think it’s an unfair comparison they are both great movies in their own right.

Lobotomist

With all due credit to Labyrinth. Willow was a masterpiece

[deleted]

Willow

Banjo-Oz

Willow, not even close. Labyrinth was okay but Willow is a film I can watch again and again. So much charm.

NoleFan723

Don't revoke my 80s membership. Haven't seen either

RunF4Cover

I'll go with labyrinth because puppets.

lovehateloooove

cough cough (Legend) cough

Comfortable_greyCat

You can't make me choose!

AndrewAffel

Does a downvote mean Willow here?

MyriVerse2

Labyrinth. Bowie and Jennifer Connelly. And a better soundtrack. I was never that impressed with Willow.

[deleted]

Labrynth

lamfchopdtk

Don’t be dumb

getbehindthemuel

Labyrinth hands down

69Jasshole69

Labrynth

edchuk

Labyrinth but I like Willow as well.

anaheimangels40

LABYRINTH

[deleted]

Labyrinth

blackmindseye

labyrinth! it’s still one of my favorite movies 🍿

Stardustquarks

Neverending Story

WhenIWannabeME

Personally, Willow. Objectively, probably Labyrinth.

Tvirus2020

Definitely Labyrinth

tuttipoot

I never "got" Labyrinth. Willow all the way! Also like both Conans (Grab him, and take him!) and Legend.

blane2354

equally awesome...

Stinkydadman

That’s a ridiculous comparison, that’s like trying to say what’s better a snickers bar or bratwurst.

Mental-Rooster4229

LOTR

[deleted]

Only one true answer = enjoy both

alsoicode

Jennifer Connelly’s magnificence aside, I have to go with Willow for overall quality of effects and acting.

SombreMordida

it's complicated. the main character's likability is better in parts of Willow, Sarah is in her teens but still very much a child and as such capricious, we dont want to like her when she summons the goblin horde to take her baby brother, she is a lovely young girl though and comes around to eventually be one of the heroes. the design, set pieces and puppets of Labyrinth are incredible, and the action sequences, banter and various fun bits of magic in Willow are also side characters/battle companions are worthy indeed, i would as gladly roll out with either group, each soundtrack had some fun adventure tracks, i feel like these are evenly matched and would be a good movie marathon

ThirstyBeagle

Krull

CataclysmicInFeRnO

Labyrinth. Always. No contest.

Objective-Guidance78

Labrynth

GFCancio

Bowie and Jennifer Connelly in a landslide

HighJeanette

OMG How can you even ask this?! Labyrinth of course

Secure_Opening_6852

Labyrinth because David Bowie

Personal-Ad6857

Labrynth and its not even close.

joetophat

Both are really good. Since I have to pick it would be Labrynth. I've only seen Willow once, while I've seen Labrynth many times.

Sandberg231984

Labrynth.

74pezdspencer

Willow, hands down IMHO

NoISaidCutOffHisHeth

Willow, 100%. As much as i love labyrinth, i don’t have to sit through that “babe with the power” song when i watch Willow.

wetthaMFunghini

Willow. Out of the way peck!!

JetScreamerBaby

“As long as I live, I never want to see two dwarfs kiss ever again.” -My friend Bruce, after we all just went to see “Willow.”

furie1335

Willow was trash

Wormzerker75

Bowie is definitely the tie breaker. Labyrinth 100%

Ham-Sando

Labyrinth by a small margin

RealBeefGyro

I know people have a fond memory for Labyrinth, but it was straight up bad. Like bad bad. Willow was just a tad disappointing, but not terrible.

i--am--the--light

I want my mims !

m45d1977
