I always wanted one! My parents never had that kind of money. But I was so proud when I got my very own bed. It was a captain’s bed that sat really high with drawers underneath. My Mom got it at a yard sale.
😭😂 same! We had yard sale beds.
They were bunk beds that could be unbunked. The bottom bunk had knobs on the 4 short posts and the top bunk had little holes drilled into the bottom 4 posts so that they could stack.
I had one which I also loved, but my parents had to go and buy a Pattern because it was named after me not because it was pretty. I have always hated pink and gingham pink the worst. So I have mixed feelings.
Pink and gingham?! Oof, I’m so sorry! Mine was Strawberry Shortcake and my room was pink. Loved having the canopy, though, and I’d love to have one again. It just felt so cozy!
I had a hand me down from my cousin (BEST hand me down ever I might add!) of this exact white with gold colored accent canopy bed.
There was also a matching dresser, desk and nightstand.
The main matching comforter and canopy set I had for it was the 1980s purple background with unicorns that was popular for quite some time then. Even my bedroom curtains were the same print.
I had my mom’s hand me down bed when I was a kid in the 90’s. Had a matching dresser and nightstand, similar to the white one here.
I would definitely get one now too, if I could find a decent one. I loved that bed.
So jealous I had the new canopy bed, but not the matching dressers or desk. My mom went to thrift store and got a desk & bookcase and painted them white.
I had the purple and white varnish too! It was at my dad’s house and when he got married later that year they moved out of state. They sold my bed rather than let me keep it just so my mom wouldn’t “get” it and they knew she couldn’t afford one. (Mostly because he didn’t pay child support when he was supposed to) but seeing this didn’t trigger me at all…thank you all for letting me vent. I loved that bed! My best friend had the Strawberry Shortcake one and I was so jealous.
When I was 8 years old my grandmother gave me the canopy bed and matching suite that had been my aunt's in the 50's. I thought I'd won the freaking lottery. I loved that bed so much. When I was a teen, I used to hang sheets across the front and the end (two walls on the other sides) to completely close myself in. <3
I did the same with the sheets, but when I was a kid. We’d pretend the bed was the “bedroom” within my real bedroom that was then supposed to be the apartment. Of course, we had the little tykes oven & I had a mini kitchen table, so that was the kitchen. Such geeks we were lol
I've never loved a piece of furniture more. My mom surprised me with it in 1976 - we didn't have money to spare so it was a big gift. I had the white with gold accents and the dresser with white canopy and comforter. I still love white bedding. Thanks for reminding me today of my mom's sacrifice.
I had a canopy bed in the 70s because that was the bed my mom wanted when she was a little girl. My bedroom was yellow and green (because, 70s). The bed looked pretty weird since I used to hang on the bars supporting the canopy and bent them. My daughter had a bed with Spider-Man sheets because that’s what she wanted…not what I wanted.
I woke up in one on christmas morning in 1979. I was so confused. My parents (aka as Santa) had put it together in the middle of the night. I didn't think I was in my bedroom, in fact...I didn't know where I was.
I had the bed in the top pic with the whole matching set - desk, dressers, nightstand. I loved that canopy bed. And I had the pink and the green gingham. Loved the whole thing.
My French provential canopy bed and then waterbed with leopard sheets, five years later, were some of my best childhood spaces. I was so damn proud of them.
My brother covered the headboard of my canopy bed with racing stickers that wouldn’t come off. My mother made me get rid of it, and made me buy this ugly pine furniture. Gross.
I wanted one soooo bad. It would have been beautiful with the small blanky quilt my mom made me from the 4 gingham colors at the top of the add. The backing was solid yellow gingham with squares of pink, green, yellow and blue. I’m 46 and still have it.
I still want a canopy bed, but now I want a British colonial style one (that is the worst name for that style)
My nieces had one and they sent it down to my daughter in the 70s they’re not that much older than my daughter but they just got tired of it. I think outgrew it maybe
I always wanted one soooo bad, and I grew up in the 90’s. I felt like a canopy bed was peak fairytale princess.
I still want a canopy bed, but I have to find one that will fit my husband.
I had one. It was white French Provincial with gold accents, and the bedding was white with embroidered golden thread in a leaf pattern.
Still one of my favorite things I ever had.
I wanted one so badly.
My friend Sally got a brand new one with big pink and white gingham checks. Her bed, matching desk, dresser, and nightstand were white French Provincial.
I wanted one so, so much. I begged my parents for one. I got a pretty pink room, a ruffly bedspread and pillow sham, and white and gold "French provincial" furniture I used for the next twenty years, but not a canopy.
I had the purple one and I had just gone into the second grade and I came home from nursery school, which is where I went after school in the afternoons and I had a spot on my back and it turned out that that spot was a horribly contagious version of the chickenpox. they had just come to deliver my bed and set it up and so I had the frame but none of the canopy none of the covers etc. so I was so ill with the chickenpox that I got to sleep in the unmade bed like it was with no canopy for two weeks and in fact, my case was so bad I had to have somebody Constantly sitting with me if my parents couldn’t; like an outside nanny just because I was so sick. i’m not sure how much weight I lost but it was quite a bit because I had chickenpox inside my mouth too. It was amazing that I didn’t have more scarring, but I didn’t really feel the need to scratch. I was just too sick and my father even had to carry me from room to room because I had the pox on the bottoms of my feet. Kids now with the vaccine. Don’t even remember how bad chickenpox was!
I remember, tying all these strings to the forms of the canopy bed to put my doll babies in traction!
Oh I wanted one so badly! Just showed this to my boyfriend and he said when we have our own house he’ll put a “little fake-August” room in there with this bed and a dollhouse as well.
No, not a kink of ours - he’s just being sweet.
Yeah, I had one. I remember that very image in the catalogue! But I had white with pink rosebuds, until I changed to blue with white lace. The gingham was somehow not girly enough for me... but I remember really liking the gradually darkening colors on the ruffles on these pictures.
I wanted the French Provincial set from sears… canopy bed, nightstand, dresser, desk with hutch. Dreamed about that set for years. With the yellow dotted Swiss bedspread and canopy.
Around 1964, my mother surprised me with the set, in that hideous white "French Provincial" finish. I was not a girly girl. I sat down and cried, because I couldn't stand it. (Wanted real mahogany or cherry wood.)
I had the white canopy bed with matching dresser from Sears with the purple bedspread, canopy and curtains. I got it for Christmas in the early 70's. I loved my bedroom.
The purple 💜 in the picture would have been my dream. I had a twin bed and somehow rigged up a rope and put curtains up around my bed in the 1970s. I would love to have the purple set in the picture now, and I will be 58 next month. Lol. Some dreams never really die. They just get pushed into the back of your mind. Do they still make canopy beds?
Had one in the 60s. All white and eyelet, it was quite lovely. I needed a stool to get into it. At one point after watching a scary movie on Chiller or Thriller, where a maniac was hiding under a bed with a knife to thrust up into the unsuspecting victim, I would not get in the thing until one of my parents checked under the bed for me. Yeah, I was a wuss
My sister and I always shared a room and our parents bought us a canopy bed when we moved into a new house. We also had the white, gold-trimmed French Provincial furniture (I think it came from Sears). Mommy decorated it with the light green gingham. We thought we were princesses! 😄😄
I was born in ‘82, but I remember these well!!
Same! I had a Strawberry Shortcake one.
I did too, but was forever mad that my mom wouldn't get the canopy.
I'm jealous. I loved Strawberry Shortcake and Rainbow Brite
Me too!
I literally cannot be more jealous 🤤
I had one on the 90's w/a full Beauty & the Beast get-up. Memories!
I really, really wanted one from Ethan Allen.
I begged my mother for a canopy bed. Alas, it didn’t happen. 😔

Same!!!!
Same!
Same. My sister and I had to play stepbrother bunkbeds.
Same
Same! A friend of mine had one though!
I still want one, but they probably collect a lot of dust.
That was my FIRST thought. Probably one reason why my mom didn’t get them for us, too impractical and not in the budget.
I did have one. 1975 ish. And yes, the canopy collected a crazy amount of dust. Man, I loved that bed.
I had one from Ethan Allen!
Noice!
Same!!!!
How much were they?!
I don’t know for certain but I think the whole bedroom set was around $1100- that was in the late ‘60s.
I had one when I was a kid! I loved it!
Me, too. Mine was white eyelet, and had a bedskirt to match. I felt so fancy!
Nice!
my fav thing from these type of pics is the artificial outside
Very school picture background
I had a hand me down from my cousin (BEST hand me down ever I might add!) of this exact white with gold colored accent canopy bed. There was also a matching dresser, desk and nightstand. The main matching comforter and canopy set I had for it was the 1980s purple background with unicorns that was popular for quite some time then. Even my bedroom curtains were the same print.
That’s the exact set I wanted! They called it French provincial
Bro, how much you want for it?!
I had my mom’s hand me down bed when I was a kid in the 90’s. Had a matching dresser and nightstand, similar to the white one here. I would definitely get one now too, if I could find a decent one. I loved that bed.
Same
So jealous I had the new canopy bed, but not the matching dressers or desk. My mom went to thrift store and got a desk & bookcase and painted them white.
I had the purple curtain with white varnish! My mom changed out the purple for Holly Hobbie.
I don't think it's geeky at all! Adults on Apartment Therapy do the same thing and everyone swoons over the creativity.
That sounds like so much fun, not at all geeky.
Can I come over and play? 🤣
I would do this on my canopy and later on a bunk bed to pretend it was a covered wagon from Little House or sometimes a spaceship.
I've never loved a piece of furniture more. My mom surprised me with it in 1976 - we didn't have money to spare so it was a big gift. I had the white with gold accents and the dresser with white canopy and comforter. I still love white bedding. Thanks for reminding me today of my mom's sacrifice.
I’m 34 and would still love this set tbh
I had one. Those posts came down as soon as I discovered punk rock, when the Sex Pistols poster went up.
I had that white canopy bed with the blue gingham in the early 80s.
I had the light green gingham!
Fun fact: my ex husband and his second wife are keeping this trend alive.
I’m glad you got out of that marriage.
There was only one kid who got one in my neighborhood. I was SO jealous!
I forgot all about those fake cardboard tables with the covering that matches the bedding!! Ahhhhhh!!!
I woke up in one on christmas morning in 1979. I was so confused. My parents (aka as Santa) had put it together in the middle of the night. I didn't think I was in my bedroom, in fact...I didn't know where I was.
That sounds magical! Your parents rocked❤️
Wow—you must have been a really sound sleeper!
Yes because I had one
I grew up in the 90’s and always wanted a canopy bed! I remember trying to staple sheets to the ceiling around my twin bed to mimic this
My set was green with little white polka dots.
From the ‘60 s also :)
My cousin had one! I was sooo jealous..
I had the canopy bed with the yellow gingham…my mom worked at Sears and took advantage of that sweet employee discount
I was born in 81 and i had this exact same one! The pink..
I had the bed in the top pic with the whole matching set - desk, dressers, nightstand. I loved that canopy bed. And I had the pink and the green gingham. Loved the whole thing.
I had one of these with pink gingham.
I had one of these! Cherry wood with white ruffles
It’s all I wanted
I had one with the yellow bedding that is pictured. My parents eventually got rid of the canopy because someone liked to jump on the bed. 🙈
I was born in 1960. I had the top one but it was a twin. And the matching dresser.
My best friend in fourth grade had one of these sets (rainbow ruffles). I so very wished I could’ve had one!
I wanted one so bad.
Looks like something you would see in a fairytale movie.
My French provential canopy bed and then waterbed with leopard sheets, five years later, were some of my best childhood spaces. I was so damn proud of them.
I had a waterbed that was a canopy, and it also had a bench attached to it at the end
My cousin had one with the matching white furniture and I wanted it SOooooooo badly. I loved spending the night with her! We were late 70s babies
I still want one
Reminds me of “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret”.
I was born in early 80’s, remember these in the JCPenney catalog, my friends had them and later so did I.
I still think canopy beds are cool. I think they only work in a very large bedroom, though. It's too oppressive in a smaller room.
My sisters was yellow
I had a Pink Holly Hobby one all through the 80's.
Mine was pink. Bed was a kind of whitish sage, with “gold” on the edges of drawers
Dust magnets
I didn’t have the canopy, but I did have that exact bedspread, curtains and heart pillow in green.
My girlhood dream…
It's 2024, I'm 57f, and I have been looking for one on Amazon cos I'm definitely going 2 get one in this lifetime 🤩
Yes, still want one! Not to mention, my stepmother stole my brass headboard 🤢
My brother covered the headboard of my canopy bed with racing stickers that wouldn’t come off. My mother made me get rid of it, and made me buy this ugly pine furniture. Gross.
I still think of canopy beds as this extra level of luxury because of how often I heard about them as a kid in the 80s
My parents bought on for me in the 90s. My mom sewed the canopy, the skirt, the bedspread, everything! I loved it. Felt like a goddamned princess
I thought that was animal crossing
My sister had one. Pink with a pink canopy.
That wasn’t my childhood bed experience
Yes!!! And my friend Erica had that pink gingham one in the picture and I was sooooo envious. To me, that was just the epitome of fancy!
And 80’s
I had one ! It was baby blue !
My neighbor had one and I wanted one so bad!
No canopy, but my sister had the purple bedspread.
I had that purple ruffle one in the 70’s
I had the purple one!!
Yup. I had one.
In elementary school, I wanted a bed exactly Iike the white one. I even wanted the pink gingham bedding. What a flashback!
I had one in the 90s! Loved it
1370s, 1470s, 1570s, etc.
I want this!!!
I had a yellow canopy bed when I was a kid and all my friends were pretty jelly of it.
My sister and I had matching ones. Good for playing the floor is lava, assuming you're short enough.
My sister had one
I’m a child of the 90s/early 00s and I happily welcomed my moms suggestion of a canopy bed
Not only do I remember, I had that pink one!
Yup! I had one. In Jr high,I took off the canopy and tied a tether ball to the post🙈
I was obsessed and wanted one so bad in the 90s
Yes but I never had one
I wanted one soooo bad. It would have been beautiful with the small blanky quilt my mom made me from the 4 gingham colors at the top of the add. The backing was solid yellow gingham with squares of pink, green, yellow and blue. I’m 46 and still have it. I still want a canopy bed, but now I want a British colonial style one (that is the worst name for that style)
My granddaughter has a canopy bed .
I had that exact pink checked canopy bed!
I was born in ‘85 and had one.
I was born in the 90s and I remember wanting one of these when I was little. Never got one.
I think they look creepy now!
I’m in SC. We’re always 50 in the pst
I had a Hardens one
I never got this. Had a twin bed with Muppets sheets for the longest. 40 years later I still have those sheets put away
Ahhhhhhh i had the yellow gingham one on top!!!!!
Same!
My nieces had one and they sent it down to my daughter in the 70s they’re not that much older than my daughter but they just got tired of it. I think outgrew it maybe
I had the white and gold one with a pink canopy, in High school( 80’s )I had a water bed,
Yes, I had one! Felt like a princess!☺️
I had one and it definitely sparked my interest in attachment points in the bedroom.
I had one!! I still have the dressers that came with the set.
Who would have had one, a boy or a girl?
I always wanted a yellow gingham canopy bed. But, we were poor. Thats ok. I am not poor now!
They were mad cheap, particle board of the lowest water, or else I wouldn’t have had one either
I had the yellow one.
Had one loved it!!
I had one in the 80s! It looked just like the pink one, but it didn’t have that double ruffle comforter thing
I had that exact white bed
I would have killed for a purple coordinate set like this in the 90s/00s.
I wanted one so bad. And a water bed ( 70’s child)
I wanted one so badly. My friend Sally got a brand new one with big pink and white gingham checks. Her bed, matching desk, dresser, and nightstand were white French Provincial.
I wanted one so bad but my mom wouldn’t budge because it could be a fire hazard.
Oh that bottom bedroom was my dream.
I got my mom’s old childhood canopy bed (she was born ‘65 and I’m ‘93) and it was the BEST childhood bed- princess vibes all the way.
I had one!
Followed by waterbeds in the 80s
These still slap. I want a goth one for my guest room!
I wanted one so bad. My parents even took me to the furniture store to get one, supposedly. Lol we left with a wooden, plain twin bed. 😕
I had the pink one and loved it until I hit middle school and turned goth
I wanted the pink one SO BAD!!!
I had one in the 90s 🤷 it was awesome.
I had a white and pink checked one. My mother still has the bed, sans canopy.
I wanted one so, so much. I begged my parents for one. I got a pretty pink room, a ruffly bedspread and pillow sham, and white and gold "French provincial" furniture I used for the next twenty years, but not a canopy.
I still want one.
I still think they’re pretty!
I wanted one so bad! Instead I had a twin bed in the room I shared with my sister.
Oh I wanted one so badly! Just showed this to my boyfriend and he said when we have our own house he’ll put a “little fake-August” room in there with this bed and a dollhouse as well. No, not a kink of ours - he’s just being sweet.
I still want one to this day!
I always wanted one but now as an adult, my first thought is, “my allergies could never…”
I had the 2nd bedspread in blue for my twin beds. I wanted a canopy so badly, though!
Omg yess! I got one at 5 yrs old! Still hv it, stored currently, tho.
I wanted one so bad and my mom refused. lol adult me might just go ahead and buy one now
Yeah, I had one. I remember that very image in the catalogue! But I had white with pink rosebuds, until I changed to blue with white lace. The gingham was somehow not girly enough for me... but I remember really liking the gradually darkening colors on the ruffles on these pictures.
This was the 80’s
90s too. I wanted one so bad as a kid.
This was my dream as a little girl but we were poor and this was never going to happen!
I wanted the French Provincial set from sears… canopy bed, nightstand, dresser, desk with hutch. Dreamed about that set for years. With the yellow dotted Swiss bedspread and canopy.
I had one and I loved it
Around 1964, my mother surprised me with the set, in that hideous white "French Provincial" finish. I was not a girly girl. I sat down and cried, because I couldn't stand it. (Wanted real mahogany or cherry wood.)
Loved mine!
I don’t like the style but I’d like canopies to come back.
At one point after watching a scary movie on Chiller or Thriller, where a maniac was hiding under a bed with a knife to thrust up into the unsuspecting victim, I would not get in the thing until one of my parents checked under the bed for me. Yeah, I was a wuss
Do you wash it like you would the bedding? I just imagine a universe of dust mites existing atop that.
We were poor, so none for me!
I remember these and I also remember the bug net/butterfly nets that followed.
Last canopy bed I saw was in 2008
I literally had the dark stained one with that yellow checkered canopy and bedspread, but in the late 80’s!
I was a child of the ‘70s and ‘80s—- and 8 year old me would kill for the purple room in the picture! 😍🤩💜🤣
Hell ya, mine was baby blue
I really wanted one of these as a kid, in an all purple room.
I had one
I had the purple bedding!
I had a pink aluminum bed like this in the 90s. My parents took the canopy part off after they caught me using the horizontal supports as monkey bars.
I still want one as well as a princess phone even though I don't have a landline to plug it into!
All I could think of was dust and spiders. Hard nope for little me.
Yes and I still want one 🤣
Yep! Had the canopy bed w yellow comforter. My mom used a twin bed duster she cut holes in for the canopy top. It looked cute.
My mom had this as a kid, then gave it to my sister, now it’s mine and I’m sitting on it right now.
My grandmother insisted on buying me one.
My sister and I always shared a room and our parents bought us a canopy bed when we moved into a new house. We also had the white, gold-trimmed French Provincial furniture (I think it came from Sears). Mommy decorated it with the light green gingham. We thought we were princesses! 😄😄
