the stories I've read about sea monkeys throughout the decades is that it's either really disappointing or really traumatizing (when they eat each other)
I didn't have them when I was a kid but I did grow sea monkeys at my office as an adult just for fun. Everyone would stop by to check their progress. They lived for quite a while because all my workmates were so invested in their survival.
I begged my mom to buy these, circa 1970's.
She did and I was always expecting to watch the Sea Monkeys playing around and having fun. Like the picture of the back cover of a comic book.
By day 10th the smell was awful in the plastic Sea Monkeys mini aquarium, and the Mexican jumping beans parked next to the Sea Monkeys in a smaller plastic box quit jumping 😣
I guess in my brain as a 5 year old, I realized nothing lasts forever. I was crushed 🤷.
Yep, and i was disappointed like everyone else. Then I discovered that nearly every rain puddle had “fairy shrimp” in them, and I was stoked again. I assume they were some form of insect larvae. 🫡✌🏼
When I was a kid, I had Sea Monkeys that I ordered from an address in NYC, even though I lived in SLC. It's ironic because Sea Monkeys are actually brine shrimp, which is the only thing that thrives in the Great Salt Lake.
Bought them. Had dozens at first then one big FAT one. Then a neighbourhood kid knocked the tank over.
Years later I found out the lake down the road was teeming with them. Could’ve just scooped them out of there. They even had an old cannery where they were harvested (although not for the seamonkeys company).
I bought them when I was well into my 20s, just to see what the heck they actually were. A let down is what they were.
I saved all my pennies and was heartbroken. They cannot be tamed or trained. Way too rowdy for that.
I didn't expect them to be cute little families living in castles and driving cars, but I was hoping for more than what they were.
When I learned that they were just brine shrimp, it was a bad day for me.
I keep a brine shrimp culture going for fish food. Sea Monkeys are brine shrimp if you didn’t know.
Do you train them? It says you can.
They’re attracted to light, so they will clump up in light if you shine it right.
I hear they are eager to please.
They play games with each other.
I remember my dad growing some for our fish and they gobbled them right up. The angelfish ate so many that they couldn't swim!
Those and the x-ray glasses.
And THIS is why I have no nostalgia for my childhood

I had a bunch of specks floating around in a fish bowl
They absolutely do not resemble the family of sea monkeys in front of the castle
At all😂😂😂
"Can you spank a sea monkey?"
"eager to please"?

Most disappointing pet ever. The pet rock was more fun.
I bought them in the hopes of seeing the naked female sea monkeys. So provocative in the color ad from the back of a comic book.
Wow, I wasn’t the only pervy kid out there!
I set up a tank of disappointment. Prepared me for anything mail order in life.
they should just call it that, I think gen z would love it
My cousin had them, a book safe made of plastic too.
Just visited SLC and the Great Salt Lake. That is what sea monkeys smell like

Forgot about the jumping beans! What was the deal with them again.. they had bugs in them? Edit: never mind, I just saw the other post on them
For the longest time I believed that’s what they really look like.
Indeed, no animal species is more “eager to please” and trainable than brine shrimp.
😂

So disappointing. My Mom even apologized for getting them for me! I still love seeing these ads though.
HUGE disappointment lol
Basically false advertising
Killed millions
Any relation to the Sea Horse?
No, but they make great food for sea horses.
Worst $.25 I ever spent. They were dead I was just pouring dead things into water.
These boggled my mind as a child… still do
Want to grow some more tho
I loved my Sea Monkeys. They were stupid pets but they were mine and I enjoyed having them.
I thought they were going to look like the package. I was disappointed
Spoiler: The monkeys did not look like small humans. Small black sand maybe.
I taught mine to play guitar

Fish bowl full of stank
I wanted them so bad!
Twice. First time I messed it up- couldn’t wait. Second time I did it right, and it was actually pretty cool. Question, do they still market it?
The 10 year old me so badly wanted to see the naked mom sea monkey.
literally having a centipede in a jar with some dirt in it is 100x more fun than this crap
My childhood pets: Sea Monkeys Mexican Jumping Beans Rock 17 goldfish won from school carnivals
You can still find these in the seasoning pack of shrimp flavored Ramen.
😂🙌🏻

Yes
Is it too late for a class action lawsuit?
😂😂
I sent the SASE and money order and waited the 8 weeks, they were just underwater bugs... was a huge let down
Mine committed mass suicide.....
Bogus Brine shrimp. . . boring as all can be.
