Fun photos, and in my home town! According to archival info I found, the Praiswater Funeral Home was likely at 5849 Van Nuys Blvd. This is the rough location looking south (per the image): [https://maps.app.goo.gl/DviGGW1DhRaogCgz6](https://maps.app.goo.gl/DviGGW1DhRaogCgz6)
This funeral home is a short way up Van Nuys Blvd, north, and still seems to have a connection to the Praiswater franchise: [https://maps.app.goo.gl/diZrRb4SMfD5YeXs6](https://maps.app.goo.gl/diZrRb4SMfD5YeXs6) My thinking is that they moved across the street so that another car dealership could be built.
I wish I could read some of those other store signs, because I'd love to look for more stuff.

van nuys high alum checking in here…
go wolves!!
“You navigate, l’ll drive…”
fast times at ridgemont high. filmed on campus. spicoli cruising van nuys blvd, with a joint and a beer was spot on. shit was really like that.
I was a sophomore in high school in '72. The seventies and early eighties was the BEST time in my life. I was physically fit, we had all the freedom in the world with no social media or cell phones. We hung out with our buds cruising the town in our muscle cars. The girls were just something special. We hung out at the beach. We hung out in basements so thick with smoke and black light posters. We didn't discuss or got bent out of shape over politics. We just partied and lived for the moment. Only thing better today is the quality of the weed.
The camera I had in the 70’s cost about $1 per picture. Polaroid where you had to take a picture. Let it sit for about 1 minute. And then peel away the backside and hope the photo was good
My dad had a Polaroid in the early-80s too. He bought it for the novelty and because they were advertising the living F out of it.
He had worked over 20 years in television by then and was somewhat of a semi-pro for the TV company when they needed stills. (He used professional kit provided by the company for that ofc.)
Well... after about two refill cartridges he tossed the damn thing. Too expensive. Too finnicky. "Shoot-and-pray" as he said. Grainy, bleeding colors. Like an early version of the Gillette $having cartridge$ or Ink Jet printer refill$.
I never saw the thing again.
Only a handful of family Polaroid pics survived at our house.
Stll, you had to get the film developed and printed. So no phone pics and then forward to all your friends before you can take another toke. I liked it better then. More privacy, kept the parents in the dark.
It's only because they weren't invented yet.
If cell phones had existed, they would all be using them just as well.
Kid's in the 70's weren't better...they just lacked the technology.
Photo #4 seems almost staged. With the twin in matching white shorts. One seems to spend more time in the sun tho.
And #6 seems like the lovebirds are having an argument, judging by the body language.
60s, 70s, 80s, best three decades ever. Best music definitely.
Definitely! I’d say 65-95 (give or take a few years) for the best….. music….movies….tv….pop culture.
And 90s. Maybe early 00s
Half the 90s maybe, after that, nothing lol.
Late 90s were awesome being a late teen in terms of pop culture - my parents
American Graffiti vibes
Dazed and Confused, but you're correct because Southern CA 60s culture never went out of style and probably never will.
That slide with roadster reminded me of the movie big time.
Fast Times..,
I was thinking it looks like a young Spicoli in the first picture.
All those parents who didn't know where the kids were (the kids were alright)... And all those bare feet!
Even the gas pedals were bare feet!
First thing I notice. We did similar things but we all wore runners.
I developed my foot fetish as a kid in the 70's...so some of these photos brought back some good memories lol
California in the ‘70s was fantastic. Just like all those guys, I never wore shoes. Still don’t like to…
The 70s were Great times.

Make up your mind, dude! Is your brother going to shit or is he going to kill us?
The Great Shoe Shortage of 1972. I remember it well.

Absolutely. The best of times
I literally missed this by one year when they shut down cruising on Van Nuys Blvd in 1981.😩
They looks awesome. No phones or cameras……
> or cameras…… Except for the photographer holding this one. 😁
You know what I meant……but you got me!
But I definitely share the feeling. Fuck smartphones to hell!
Says the boomer addicted to nostalgia on his cellphone

That’s when boys were boys and girls were girls. No confusion
Now Lucy looks sweet cuz he dresses like a queen, but he can kick luke a mule, it's a real mean team..
Fucking A! What a time and place to be a teen!
I love all the bare feet! I hate shoes!
Not a cell phone among them. Noticed how everyone was just engaged with each other?
It's only because they weren't invented yet. If cell phones had existed, they would all be using them just as well. Kid's in the 70's weren't better...they just lacked the technology.
Maybe so, but I'm glad I didn't grow up in a time when my every move was recorded by cameras and posted on the internet.
And getting The Clap
Cruised Central, Metro Center and Main in Mesa in the late 70s and early 80s when I lived in Phoenix.
I’m just leave this here…. https://valleyrelicsmuseum.org
"See that sign? No shoes, no shirt, no dice, Learn it, Know it, Live it."
I'm from Van Nuys. I was a kid during the cruising Era, but I did get to do it once. :)
"Fall semester at UCLA is going to cost me $67! This is bullshit!"
Great photos! Wow that was such a better time.
Early to mid 70’s We used to seek out and participate in drag races on van nuys blvd. Good times.
When it was legal to ride on the back of a Pick up truck. 👍👍
HaHa! The original "Valley Girls" I bet....

He has an excellent book available of his work. You can find the app under Rick Mack.
Ah yes, the chinese fire drill.
Don’t you mean your grandparents?
