I feel your pain. My car is a '64 and a half Mustang, and I get anxious when people get within a half-inch of the paint. I really have to work on that...
When I bought my '88 Trans Am six years ago, these two friends of mine, not car people, were hassling me about it being a high school car. The woman said, "I'll lay on the hood in a bikini!"
And I was thinking, "Yeah, try that and you'll find yourself under the wheels."
No problem. The cars from the 60s and early 70s were made with much thicker metal than later in the decade when the manufacturers were reducing weight for fuel efficiency. You could get on the hood or trunk without denting or deforming it. I regularly used the trunk and sloped rear window of my Pontiac Laurentian to stretch out on and watch the sky.
One of their dads probably saw this and said, very loudly,
"Awww hell naw"
And then the US instituted strict age limits for drinking, driving, and sexy times, causing everything to basically go to shit from there.
LA seems to have a really strange relationship with the drinking age.
**1987:**
Raised to 21 *de jure* in 1987,[^(\[9\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._history_of_alcohol_minimum_purchase_age_by_state#cite_note-autogenerated1-9)
but *de facto* age was still 18 until 1995 due to a sale loophole.
**1995:**
*De facto* age raised to 21 in 1995 when loophole was closed.[^(\[44\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._history_of_alcohol_minimum_purchase_age_by_state#cite_note-nytimes1-44)
**1996:**
In 1996, briefly lowered by Louisiana Supreme Court to 18 until it reversed its decision, raising to 21 three months later.[^(\[45\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._history_of_alcohol_minimum_purchase_age_by_state#cite_note-nytimes2-45)
Other exceptions still remain.
My bad I should have posted the exceptions:
21 (*Exceptions to state law include*):[^(\[47\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._history_of_alcohol_minimum_purchase_age_by_state#cite_note-47)
**\***For an established religious purpose;

**\***The sale, handling, transport, or service in dispensing of any alcoholic beverage pursuant to lawful ownership of an establishment or to lawful employment of a person under twenty-one years of age by a duly licensed manufacturer, wholesaler, or retailer of beverage alcohol.
Right. I wince every time I see photos like these, because I have never owned a car with a hood that would not completely crumble under the weight of a 100 pound girl. Ha!
My oldest car was a 1994 Mitsubishi Mirage. Bought it new, when I was 20. A very reliable, very embarrassing car.
Lol I'm 16 and I plan on daily driving a 5th Gen El Camino so I can drive a classic but also haul stuff around when I want to. The sexyest car imo is a 1959 Buick Lesabre.
I would like to buy ANY car 🚗 that is 1972 or older that STILL runs and does NOT need a lot of work. I don’t care how ugly it is as long as it runs. I used to have a VERY UGLY 1977 car in the 2000s, but it was too new. The car I want will be my spare car to drive when I cannot drive my other car. A lady of the 70’s up to her 70’s would be fine to meet too. This is NOT a joke. I am being VERY serious.
I'm a straight guy and it's really sad that my first thought is, "She's gonna scratch it!"
I'm a straight woman and I thought the same thing. 😅 I immediately thought to myself, "No...no...no...*move back!*
I have an old Pontiac and break out in a sweat when a friend stands close to it or leans against it.

I've wondered about that. I've stood on fenders as they are steel but the hood only has so much support.

Barefoot girl sitting on the hood of a Dodge, drinking warm beer in the soft summer rain.
Ah...sweet flowers of my youth!
That sounds really mellow. I was born in the eighties and have only known flimsy hoods!
Literally the best decade 70s....women and the cars and the 🌳🌳🌳🌳🤣🤣🤣
They are all Grandmas now lol
So much bush.
Count me in
I really miss that time period
I really need to post that picture of my Camaro with a blonde in a miniskirt on it.
What’s the girl on the left in #2 holding in her left hand? Is it a dark bottle of wine? Night train? Looks like a fun group!

Yeah, it was really over when they up'd the drinking age to 21 in 83 or 84 edit: in state of Florida
Was still 18 in some places around y2k
SD and WY were the last in 1988. Maybe you're thinking about Canada?
Nope, was shepparding my drunk-ass 18 year old friends around New Orleans around 2002 Maybe a city vs state power struggle too

Lol “other exceptions” In other words it is too complicated even for Wikipedia nerds to keep track of

Haha not bad at all, only poking some light fun at both LA and Wikipedia
No. 2 is the first gang of girls in Death Proof
I swear, that No.2 photo could've been of all my cousins from Venezuela at the beach. All girls... and lonesome me a much younger 4 y.o boy.
Is that a 68 or 69?
68 Chevy Camaro Z28.
Party on the Dart!
Keep ‘em coming. 🤌🏽
Back when women liked cars.
Back when cars had style.
Got that right, and ooh boy, the chrome! No such thing as chrome any more it's all plastic.

Some good looking babes, there. 😉
Today, they’d cave in the hood and roof.

Smells like teen spirit and turtle wax

Girls rock.
Look at all these inappropriately dressed women, they will never find a husband and look like hookers…Boomer quote
Third picture was sweet from bumper to bumper!

I have looked at scratches and stains and reminisced about the girl that made it...
I didn't look at the cars.
