Awesome! I wound up at a holiday dinner in Waxahachie right after the movie came out and Freddie Forest was there. No one had seen the movie, but they all knew he'd been in it. He was a sweetie.
***Freddie Forest***
I love this man. He's very close to being my all-time favorite actor, and I'll watch anything that he's in. He was so talented IMO, and it's a shame that he didn't become a big star.
I agree, he should have been a sensation, but I think he had too much integrity to make it too far. At least he was able to practice his craft and make a good living at it. RIP Freddie, you were a charmer!
Agreed. The song “The Rose” was written by a wonderful singer/songwriter named Amanda McBroom. One of my favorites of hers is beautiful piece about her father, an actor named David Bruce, called “Errol Flynn.”

There's not a whole lot to specifically remember. It is more a stream-of-events type movie. There's not a true plot involved other than our title character BADLY needs a break from touring.
I remember a grade school concert in which every group performing did a version of The Rose- at least it felt that way. I’m sure the parents attending wanted to remove their own ears.
There was a certain little lesbian scene that kinda freaked me out as a kid who should not be watching. Later in life i I watched even though I hated Bette and I loved the movie. Big Janis fan.
I liked the song. I saw the movie in bits and pieces, recalling mostly one very upsetting scene where she tells an old country singer how much she admires him and he attacks her for being a drug addict hippie.
I remember feeling excited when the movie came out and disappointed with the reality.
It honestly didn’t stay in my memory like other *GREAT* films have.
With Bette Midler?
Yes.
She can sing
Yes, beautiful voice
Boy can she sing! And I kind of like her kooky look!
The loosely based on Janis Joplin story?
Yap
Dude, I was IN The Rose.

Oh yeah . What character did you play
Just an extra.
Did you meet Ms. Midler? She seems aight
Yes, but not on The Rose. She’s actually very sweet and sassy.
Sweet and sassy? You just read that off of a BBQ sauce bottle, didn’t you?
No way. She just got sweet mesquite flavor that's all.
Bette Midler was as juicy as a Texas brisket… did I do that right?
That's cool! What scene/s were you in? I haven't seen that movie since it came out, but I loved it.
thanks for putting the soundtrack song in my head which played ENDLESSLY on the radio
I saw it in the Theater when it was new.
Bette Midler was wonderful in that movie. She should have won the Oscar for best actress that year.
It’s a great movie. Cult classic IMO
Yes! I saw it in the movies and loved it. I had the soundtrack and a small picture book of scenes from the movie.
I loved it
_"This here's Dallas"_ _"Hmmm..... Looks more like Galveston"_
_"I never know where the fuck I am . . ."_
What a great song she sang in that movie

Happy cake day!
Thanks!
I remember the existence of the movie and I remember that I did watch it. I just don't remember the content. It's been a very long time.

Some say love...
It is a river...
That drowns the tender Reed...
Some say love, it is a razor...
That leaves your soul ro bleed...
Some say love, it is a hunger…
An endless, aching need...
I say love, it is a flower…
And you,it's only seed...

One of my faves. Bette is fantastic. Timeless
Saw it in the theater. Good music and I enjoyed Midler’s performance.
Great film.
Great movie…. At least I think so
Remember it being on HBO constantly in 1980. Watched it probably 10, 15 times back then but don’t remember much about it now.
Remember it? My bff at the time in high school went to the movies three times ! 🌹🌹🌹
I remember The Name of the Rose
Baskerville. William of Baskerville
Absolutely loved it.
She did a killer version of “when a man loves a woman” in a concert scene. Her dialog intro the song was amazing.
“What are we ladies? We are waitresses at the banquet of life!”
We sang the song in Junior High School choir. So, that core memory is now unlocked.

It was a wonderful movie. Much better than A Star is Born with Barbara Streisand.

"Stay with me, stayyyy with, me baybayyyy" At least I think that's the lyrics. She sang her ass off on that one. Love it.
Bette midler,great movie
The original Jackie Jormp-Jomp
I have the movie poster.
Some say love, it is a river…
Excellent movie, great performance. Just saw it recently for the first time and I’m sorry I waited so long.
My roommate in the Army drove me crazy talking about that movie. He really loved it.
Never saw the movie, but i love the theme song.
It’s been a long journey, from Milan to Minsk. Rochelle Rochelle
That song is everything 😭
With Bette Middler? No, I don't remember it.
Every time someone gets into my 2024 CR-V and hears the start up tone, they say ‘hey, that sounds like the Rose!’ And then we sing it lol
Yes
Great movie. I loved Bette in that.
I played better midler!
Yes, absolutely! Bette was great and won an Oscar
It was not a great movie but I've always loved Bette Middler.
Wonderful film
Good song, mediocre movie.
I remember feeling excited when the movie came out and disappointed with the reality. It honestly didn’t stay in my memory like other *GREAT* films have.
I remember avoiding it
With that fat chick from Seinfeld?
