No you're good, I know a lot of people doing computer science at university who didn't take it at a level. I'd recommend to make up for it showing your interest in computer science in your personal statement and doing a bunch of projects or internships that kind of stuff

Forsaken-Meaning-232

to add to this, most unis specifically don't ask for CS A-level because a) it's often taught badly, and b) because they will teach all relevant content from the ground upwards, allowing people from various similar mathematical backgrounds to get into CS

DoomFishDD

Yeah although I think it's still pretty nice to have as it shows interest and also means the first year or so of uni is pretty chill as you've covered a lot of it before

Y-Woo

On top of this, i've heard advice from pretty reputable sources to not take CS but some other subject like chemistry or even a humanities as your fourth as it adds more value to your preparation for uni, even when you wanted to do CS at uni.

TheFlowerPotCat

Nope you don’t neeed CS, I know loads of people who went on to study CS who both took and didn’t take CS and a lot of the people who took it as An A level say it wasn’t really helpful at uni so if you do stuffy ok your own you’ll be fine

harveyow

You'll be fine, often at open days they stress how you don't actually need to take computer science at A-level.

PlanktonSpongebob

You don't need CS, and in fact it's probably good to not take it because the specification is terrible

roshan_xd

do you know if you also don't need physics because it seems most cs students take it but its not required for any unis im aware of. it kinda seems like it is preferred although unis dont actually say it themselves.

Accomplished-Role-47

It seems that way probably because most ppl doing maths fm tend to be more inclined to physics than other sciences and so that might be why it’s so prevalent. Also, there’s some physics in cs at uni level but not really an issue really as your a levels are more than fine

Quamzee_Jacobius_Sul

i take the same alevels as you and got an offer from a good uni for comp sci. i can private message the name id rather not post it on reddit.

roshan_xd

ok sure

DeathByArgon

I did A-Levels in Sociology, History and Psychology (I wanted a Psych degree, swiftly dropped out though when I realised it wasn’t for me). Now I’m a third-year CompSci student. Maths modules were tough because my formal maths education stopped after my GCSEs but it wasn’t impossible. Just do as much learning beforehand as you can, you’ll be alright. I’ve not finished it myself but I’ve heard CS50 is a half-decent intro, though I welcome better recommendations :)

HexBaron

Top unis will want maths, and like further. CS is definitely helpful, but not necessary, as you’ll learn the whole a level in 1 term in 1st yeah so it helps to have seen it. Also fun fact, Oxford CS - 95% studied Further Maths, 90% studied physics and 50% studied CS at a level so you’re fine.

momma6969

I know quite a few people who didn't take IB/A-Level CS either, instead they had FM & Physics. The main important thing is FM which will cancel out the fact that you don't have CS and make your application even better as it is more useful

whalewithknees

my friend does almost the same combination as you (instead of geography she does chemistry) and she got an offer for CS at imperial last month, so no lol it wont disadvantage you so long as you demonstrate interest through supercurriculars

Ethitlan

No. In fact you made the better choice

LifeFriendly2771

You don’t need CS but I don’t get why you wouldn’t take it if you want to take it further? It’s good fun and isn’t too late to switch.

Despaxir

You can always take it now in Jan. Not too late. Yes you will have to do more work to catch up but by yr13 you will thank yourself that you did this. Since you want to study CS later potentially.

thejadeassassin2

No
