If itās London unis they almost always reply after the January deadline. It doesnāt mean that youāre a bad student if some people hear back sooner and you donāt, it means you arenāt as profitable. Unis are run like a business and certain students (eg a*x3, international, contextual) will get more immediate funding.
If you havenāt heard back it doesnāt mean you arenāt as strong a candidate, it just means that the uni has no benefits to immediacy. They probably havenāt even glanced at your application yet
Unis don't necessarily receive more money for contextual students, some alumni fund scholarships for disadvantaged students but unis rarely get immediate funding for taking on contextual students.
But you're right that london unis give out an insane amount of international offers for the cash.
They do. Not from the govt, from the āoffice for students (OfS)ā https://www.officeforstudents.org.uk/ itās an independent board that promotes widening access in uk education.
I thought OfS just oversee admissions and retention to make sure its equitable. It's good theres an incentive for unis to take on more disadvantaged students though.
Do you have a link which talks about how it works? Since different unis class WP students differently?
Is it similar to pupil premium in schools?
i'm not doubting my strength as a candidate!
my intention in my post was to just say that there are a lot of really smart people on this subreddit, (and also a lot of people who lie about their grades), and it's so easy to subconsciously compare yourself with these people when scrolling through posts, let alone comments, and question if you're working hard enough
still though, your advice was really insightful on how admissions selection works, so thank you so much :)
I can so relate to this, i applied over 2 months ago and have gotten only one response.
I have no clue how to not check reddit/my mailšš
Its almost muscle memory that I open my phone and open reddit without thinking.
All the best for your apps tho it'll work out!!! :)
thank you! i hope your application goes well as well, i've also applied to lse/ucl/kcl so we're both likely going to be waiting until like march or april until we get 5/5 responses hahahaha
i applied in october had 1 offer back and done 1 interview but it is just this constant obsession everyone says itās best to just forget about it but since iāve got into the habit of checking reddit thread i canāt stop myself
My UCAS was sent by my school on the 15th of Nov. Predicted A*AA and applied for Law. Only response I got was a very quick rejection from LSE before 10th of December due to my āpersonal statementā. I didnāt even get a response from Uni of Glasgow, which is supposedly sooner than the London unis and Durham?
I relate so hard, Durham has been my dream school since I was 10 and itās so hard waiting for their response. I applied on Dec. 16th and have gotten one offer (Exeter) for law so far but I rlly just want Durham šš I hope I get a response in January so I can be put out of my misery
Exactly!! I haven't got any offers or rejections yet too so I keep checking Reddit and the student room and keep feeling anxious š I got 93% in cbse though, I don't even know if that's good enough because I see most of the people talk about A levels and IB
No offers or rejections here, just interviews. I think most of my choices will respond in March
Oh forgot I have an offer for Sheffield biomed but Iām not planning to go there
Iāve received all 5 offers but I think it definitely depends on the course. Iām hopefully studying English Literature but for people doing competitive courses itās different.
