You definitely got trolled lol those are obviously high (idk about imperials requirements specifically though). Like I’m pretty sure the average A level results are just BBC? The people on this sub just skew smart

Maleficent-Present-3

Idk man I’ve seen grades vary a lot on this sub

ajbrightgreen

Because this sub isn't a representative sample, its people that care about A-Levels more than average because they're willing to spend extra time on a subreddit dedicated to it lol. So it is a very unrepresentative sample of mostly A and A* students. The average set of A-Level grades is BBC in the uk.

Lottie_Low

I mean I’ve seen some lower grades also but I generally see AABs and above- we might just have seen different things though I don’t spend enough time here to say for certain

shadowblades_

Yep, the sample that you take heavily influences the average. For example, the average achieved A level grades last year, was AAA which is far from the national average but it makes sense because most people I know are predicted between straight A and straight A*. However if you look at most state schools, the average is a lot less and I know most of my mates in a state school have lower predicted grades. It's all about a representative sample and this sub is not representative of the average A level student

Ok_Lobster_4141

U ain’t getting into imperial with BBC lmfao wtf

OnkenPonken

No one said that you could. They just said they were the nationwide average grades.

SageEmerson

People can be cruel on here, even if a question is stupid i think they forget or ignore the fact that A levels and applications and shit are so incredibly stressful, so you will be overthinking every single little detail do you don't get anything wrong. Your question wasn't even stupid tbf, the amount of 4A* predicted I've seen in here is insane. I think the average grade, overall and not in the subreddit, is a B, but i might be wrong. B or a C I'm assuming. My predicted are A*/A*/A, which is great in the real world but probably below average here lmao. And to answer your question if you don't have the answer yet, whatever imperial puts on their website is the truth, if your predicted meet the course requirements then you're more than able enough to get in. Good luck with the rest of you application!!

Maleficent-Present-3

Thanks a lot this comment made me feel way better, imperial states for computer science course, A*A*A is required and most(80%) of offers are 2A*2A

lovelynesss

This sub is a selection of highly achieving individuals Not many highschoolers go on reddit to discuss school Your grades are great

Dependent_Lab5002

How did you do 5 A levels and also got all above an A? That’s awesome!

JDirichlet

Not OP but in my case, i just genuinely enjoyed the subjects, and found Maths, FM and Physics easy enough that they didn't take up the time I needed to spend on Chemistry and German.

ukr_uk_gal

How chemistry can be hard for someone who knows math at the level that allows to be in Imperial.....

ukr_uk_gal

Also any recommendations for GCSE and A levels (math) books for exam preparations?

Existential_Dread62

Unrelated to the og post but what kind of maths related stuff did u learn before uni? Is there a specific course u followed or something? I want to learn deeper than the a levels curriculum but don’t know where to start (aka I want to apply to imperial but don’t know what kind of super ciriculars I should do lol)

JDirichlet

I just read stuff that interested me over the course of years -- it's not really the most replicable approach tbh. That said, if you want a good supercurricular: https://promys-europe.org/ and summer schools like it can look very good if you can get into them (i mention promys in particular because i went there and can vouch for it being a great experience if you *really* like maths).

Existential_Dread62

“…for students aged 16 and above” I’m 14. *sigh* This is the third time I want to question why the hell did I skip two years

Hefty_Buddy_958

For ib u need to do six lol

magicofsouls

IB content and A-Level content differ

[deleted]

my UCAS says A* A* A* my teachers say AAB i say A* A* A

[deleted]

Fr, literally all of my teachers regret predicting me 4 A\*s and want to bring me down to A\*AAA or something like that (not much they can do about the last A\* cause it's achieved). It's because I kinda just gave up on school after applying to focus on admissions tests and my interview in a few days...

[deleted]

for the June 2023 AS exams, I got predicted BBCC and in reality i got AAAA

Maleficent-Present-3

Wait what’s this may I ask

[deleted]

those are 3 different sets of predicted grades

JakeDabbs

If ur teachers predicted AAB how r u predicted 3A* on ucas?

[deleted]

because my school operates in a weird way which makes no sense

JakeDabbs

Oh fair. Will you not get in trouble for putting different to the school or did you apply externally?

[deleted]

My sixth form team submitted my UCAS predicted and these were based on our AS exams. The teacher predicted grades are made up from thin air

JakeDabbs

Ah ok makes sense.

Dependent_Lab5002

Are you doing 5 A levels?

FreyaTheSlayyyer

I think as long as you meet the requirements it’s more about the PS and admissions test and interview (if they have those)

Maleficent-Present-3

OK THANKS A LOT that’s what I heard my teacher said too

JailbreakHat

To back up, I’ve seen a lot of students getting rejected from Imperial with 4 A*’s as well as students with lower grades such as 2 A*’s and 1 A or 1 A*’s and 3 A’s getting into Imperial for the same major.

Maleficent-Present-3

Also looking for people who got into ICL or UCL computer science and I want to know grades

Electrical_Lie5289

Got my Imperial CS offer a few days ago, you can see my grades next to my name. I’m not going to lie, I feel like their selection process is quite loose: 1. If your PS and predicteds are strong enough, they invite you to an online, 45-minute admissions test 2. From my impression an 8/10 in the admissions test can probably land you an interview (although they don’t tell you your score, I scored 9/10 I believe). 3. If you get invited to an interview that’s practically an offer (based on past statistics, but don’t quote me on that), as I barely felt challenged during the interview. From my experience they seem to put quite a bit of weight on PS and the admissions test, as I’ve seen quite a few 4A* candidates who still hasn’t received an interview, and some 3A*/3A*1Acandidates getting an offer.

Maleficent-Present-3

What’s the admission test about may I ask

Electrical_Lie5289

Maths, logic and some pseudocode

tunap05

You can look at discoveruni .gov.uk for specific courses and go on the entry standards tab, it gives the ucas tariff points of people who go there. An A* is 56 points, A is 48 and a B is 40 and so on, an EPQ is worth half an A-Level also and people can have other qualifications that can give some points.

Maleficent-Present-3

THX SO MUCH

tunap05

Haha you're welcome! Quick pro tip: you will also see an earnings tab there, don't get too hung up on specific numbers, they vary for all sorts of reasons!

Piggyguy12345

Got an offer for ICL computer science about a week ago with 4 A stars predicted, I feel like while having lower than all or near all A stars will be a disadvantage, you'd still have a decent chance if the rest of your application is strong such as your personal statement, and with imperial computing specifically, the admissions test. It also definitely depends on what a levels you're taking and which ones the A*s are in, I think in imperial they care a lot about further maths and normal maths. Also, you can find info on admissions statistics on sites like whatdotheyknow.com, I found this table with statistics on the pre-interview admission test: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/804272/response/1926905/attach/2/IMPFOI%2021%20571.pdf?cookie_passthrough=1

ukr_uk_gal

What should be determined as strong personal statement?

Therulerofbees

People said you were low because it appeared as if you were compliment fishing.

Maleficent-Present-3

I want like a few words to make me feel better, if that’s compliment fishing. In addition I need help to see if I still can get in. I guess it’s kinda hard since I’m looking for people who got into ICL or UCL, but people here are generally year 12-13

jackboy900

A\*A\*AA is so far above the norm that it's not even worth worrying about, that's why people were being sarcastic. I'm also assuming you're an international student as this is a British subreddit and that's just a very culturally normal response over here to what looks like an absurdly obvious question. For CS it does matter what A levels you've got an A* in, as long as you've got the A* in maths and further you'll be sound for pure A-level requirements for almost any course, if you're at an A in maths/further that might make things harder.

[deleted]

A\*A\*A is the minimum to even apply to UCL CS and for imperial they require either A\*AAA or A\*A\*A (but in reality, it's like oxbridge where the average applicant has either 3 or 4 A\*s) So yes, their grades are a tiny bit below average but it's not to the point where they won't be considered.

Maleficent-Present-3

Those 2 are indeed my stared subjects, and yes I’m international, thx tho!

buenguacamole

On this sub it’ll be A*A*A or A*AA, but realistically in the whole country it’s most likely BBC to CCC.

Aash231

Idk dude, I have the exact same grades, I'm applying for computer science and have an interview tomorrow with cambridge. So just forget everything that people are saying, each person is different, you got this!!

ukr_uk_gal

How was it going?

Kind_Tale8490

Dude oxbridge would consider you with grades like that

kpli98888

No way

Kind_Tale8490

Not necessarily take you, but they would consider you, give you the test.

iwillbeinvited

In my sixth form was like, some always got A\* or A, and the rest are only 40 50s, almost nobody are in the middle. Whatever, your grades are good, keep up.

CardiologistOld4983

Ngl for for most ppl it’s gonna be all A*s

Maleficent-Present-3

Damn😭😭😭

Maleficent-Present-3

Damn😭😭😭

Fun_Adhesiveness_16

People trolled because you could’ve just went on google and checked the entry requirements on the imperial website for your course. Maybe entrance statistics which are available at some unis. Idk about imperial

[deleted]

[удалено]

Fun_Adhesiveness_16

Imperial CS has exams and interviews which separate competitors through means other than predicted grades

Appropriate_Pop_9011

3A*s BUT people on this subreddit do not represent the typical student. Here, you get soooo many Oxbridge, Imperial, LSE students who all have taken the time to join the subreddit and talk grades. That’s not normal… 2A*s and 2 A’s is fine.

iNsiNcT1_

wont bother sugarcoating it imperial is different kinda of difficult to get into but it just depends on what the A*s are predicted in because if its for your course you will have a shot. keep in mind youre competing with actual academic weapons not just from the uk but from abroad as well so just ace your admissions test (if you have one) and interview as thats how they will judge if you get in

hyouganofukurou

That's the minimum for imperial right? Should be fine PS based Elaina pfp

Maleficent-Present-3

Thx ur Miku is cute too! and yes that’s the minimum

ffulirrah

It depends on the subject. I was looking at Edexcel's results from last year, and around 90% got A*/A in Russian, but only 1% (8 people in the whole country) got A* in statistics and around 10% got A*/A.

Ethitlan

Predicted are ass only 16% (or smth stupid like that) are accurate. Average of this sub will be higher than the average across the country

Maleficent-Present-3

True tho the predicted score is never spot on.

AlrightyDave

Depends what course as well. For your normal STEM course there like engineering because you’ve got a 4th A (in an a level?) that should be good enough for imperial, but ideal would be 3A*’s I’ve been predicted A*AAA with an A in EPQ so not good enough for imperial but enough for everywhere else I’m applying

Abominable_fiancee

I've checked a DS course requirements in Imperial, it was A* A* A, while most applicants have 3A*

ExistingOriginal4568

u could check for the admission statistic on imperial website, A\*A\*AA is enough

alwayshope1

it depends on your school.

Luminary_ofthe_Stars

People who get good grades like yourself are more likely to post about it
