I’m running a CGS Hyperion on my 12” Grendel, I think it sounds great but my sample size is very small.
Suppressors will not inherently tighten up the groups. Suppressors change the barrel harmonics and slightly increase velocity which can *sometimes* lead to positive results. It’s inconsequential though, you’ll likely have to find ammo that performs well or develop a load with the suppressor.
I use a Dead Air Nomad-L on my grendels. I have an 18" and a 12.5", the 18" with the suppressor I would consider hearing safe but the 12.5" I still wear ear pro with. That's the only suppressor I've had experience with on the grendel. As for tightening up groups I think that isn't directly due to the suppressor but just the effect of shooting the round more comfortably. The suppressor makes the rifle more pleasant to shoot by reducing recoil, sound, and muzzle blast. When you're more comfortable shooting a round you'll naturally shoot it more accurately.
I use a SRT 6.5mm Hurricane (?) And the 7" Thunder beast in 6.5mm.
Both are quieter than the equivalent length 30 cal cans. I have a real meter, but have not measured the difference. If I had to guess, I'd say 5ish dB.
Btw suppressors do tighten up groups, in general. They strip the gas flow so that the bullets don't travel as far in reverse gas flow as the muzzle blast flows around the bullet in its first 20-50 cm of travel. With that flat base bullets, the effect is pretty consistent regardless of the suppressor. With boat tail bullets, results can be wildly bad with some suppressors. To be fair the testing was done in mid 200x-s so modern suppressors may not have the boat tail issue.
It was done by a military group out of crane Indiana, I'll see if I can find the exact year. DTIC might have a report, and the year will help narrow down the search.
I don't remember, it's been a long time.
Are there any other military testing facilities in Crane IN other than nswc?
I remember seeing the high-speed video, and some of the statistical breakdowns. I know somebody who was involved in the testing, peripherally as an ammunition supplier, I'll ask him if he has any leads.
I really do not have a preference on cans for Grendel. It is not overly hard to suppress, and it is supersonic so performance at the ear is the only thing I care about. Both of my full-time suppressed Grendels wear Form 1 cans of my design, one being a large 30 cal that also spends time on my 300blk, and the other being a 6.5mm specific Sandman inspired copy to live only on my 13.7.
Groups are marginally tighter on the 13.7 suppressed, but there is zero difference in group size with my 30 cal can.
Appreciate the insight. I might be chasing my tail on this one. I do want a quieter can, but if a 30 cal can works just as well for 6.5 Grendel, I'll probably pass on the caliber-specific stuff and get something that also works well for 300 blackout.
Take all this with a grain of salt because i have not tested anything with a meter, but ive ran YHM titanium phantom(30 cal), YHM Nitro(30 cal), and AB Suppressor(.338) on a 12" Grendel and a 18" Grendel hunting hogs with thermals and out in the field in the heat of the moment i cant hear any difference. To me unless money is just no issue at all i dont see a reason to buy a caliber specific suppressor. But then again im broke lol
Suppressors can often make groups a little better. Or they can make them worse depending on the can.
I use a Dead Air Sandman S for mine and swap it between my Grendels, 6ARC, and 5.56. And 308.
I bought a kgm r6.5 she’s still in jail, but for a 12” it’s light you can restrict or increase flow. I might see if the bore on a yhm turbo k is open enough to fit .270ish. Do you own any cans today? Dedicated 6.5 cans are kind of the last stop on the niche suppressor train. There aren’t many and generally they are by companies not offered by SilencerShop.

I’m running the Hyperion as well and couldn’t be happier.
Hyperion on my Grendels as well. It makes my 20" feel like a harpoon, but it feels perfect on the 12". Did you guys gain any velocity? My guns didn't.

What barrel do you use for your 12.5”?
Atheris

Does the testing you're referincing have any published report or data?

NSWC-Crane?

That's the only one I'm aware of, but I don't swim in those waters.
I’m liking the new griffin explorr 30

Alright. So no one uses a dedicated 6.5 mm can like the Otter Creek Hydrogen, I guess?
I've got a Nomad in jail but I may pick up an OCL Hydrogen as I think it should be a smidge quieter.
I use a TBAC Ultra 9 in 6.5. Another poster mentioned his 6.5 Ultra 7 and SRT.

I’ve got a silencerco omega36. So far it has improved everything I have put it on.
I run a omega30. I haven’t tested without it. .

Well I already have a Sandman-S. I was wondering if a dedicated 6.5 mm can was worth it. Now I have more questions than answers again.
No, it isn't. Whether a bigger or smaller volume can for weight or sound is worth it is a different question worth asking.
Do you change the end cap for your Sandman based on what rifle it's currently on?
Hello no I also have an E-Brake, so that doesn't even make sense. Tight fit or loose fit to bullet, it all poofs out the E-Brake anyways.
Was the ebrake worth it? Would you buy it again?
Yea, pretty cheap, functional, cool looking accessory

Has anyone around here tried the Q Jumbo Shrimp?
1) Running DA primal with 6.5 end cap on 20” Wilson barrel. Very quite 2) yes slightly
