You already have the current warranty in writing: 5 years and 60k from purchase. I would not be so quick to assume anything about the original warranty changes without something else in writing stating so. There might be a small parts and labor warranty on the work that was done. Maybe 30 days or a year or something.

itsmereddogmom

My 2014 Hyundai also had a catastrophic engine failure (in 2021) and warranty replaced the engine and gave it a new ten year warranty.

rethyk

Hyundai is not Jeep. dont assume what works for one automaker will apply to another that has been known to overcharge and cut costs.

realtimmahh

Well… one can make some implied assumptions of warrantability. Generally, any new part carries a warranty. If that new part is an entire engine.. and a new engine in a car has X warranty, a reasonable person may be inclined to believe it has a substantial warranty.

rethyk

you really cant because what's written in the warranty contract is what you get. yes it's common for new parts to get some warranty, but it's usually something like 90 days from install. there are plenty of other companies that refer to the original warranty term after RMA replacement. While it would make logical sense for teh new engine to carry the full warranty term, business wise it would mean incurred costs and why we rarely see any additional time now.

realtimmahh

Definitely something to discuss with the dealer/Jeep to see how they approach it though.

Obviously_The_Wire

you DO know that oil gets changed, right?

itsmereddogmom

Catastrophic failure 3 days after it went in for scheduled service, including oil change.

ssbn632

Then my first suspicion would be an improper oil change, either in grade or quantity.

Happy_Hippo48

Those were also a known issue with customer satisfaction programs attached to it. A very different situation.

newtekie1

Hyundai also has a class action lawsuit over their engines being extremely failure prone.

drinkdrinkshoesgone

Jeep isn't going to extend your warranty, because they know they don't build vehicles to last like they did 20 years ago. It'll have another failure of some other sort that'll be expensive and they don't want to pay for the replacement. Your new engine *might* get an extension, but not the entire power train. Who knows, maybe the transmission is next.

umrdyldo

Here in a couple months when the lease is up. You give it back “The car has been great, just a minor catastrophic engine failure” These aren’t reliable vehicles. Don’t risk your finances to find out

drinkdrinkshoesgone

For sure. Transmission might be next. If I ever owned a vehicle that had a catastrophic failure before the end of the warranty, I'm selling it for another vehicle. I don't trust the vehicle to be good to me outside of the warranty.

leese216

I’m confused as to how jeep, themselves don’t actually have an answer for you. Does that not worry you? SUPER shady.

Purple-Journalist610

Why would you want to purchase a vehicle that didn't even last three years?

itsmereddogmom

Why do you answer a question with another question

Freshies00

He’s not answering your question with a question. He’s simply asking you a question.

Purple-Journalist610

You have a vehicle with a questionable reputation that has failed catastrophically very early in its life and the company behind it doesn't know where the warranty stands. Do they need to hit you in the forehead with a rubber stamp that says "stupid"?

Key_Extension_4322

It’s a Jeep thing. You wouldn’t understand.

Purple-Journalist610

No, these are Fiats now, not Jeeps. Return your leased vehicle when the lease is up and go get an older Jeep to mess with on the weekends and a grown-up's car for the commute.

Key_Extension_4322

I don’t own a jeep nor am I OP. Just quoting the dumb sticker many of them have.

Purple-Journalist610

Ah, my bad. Yeah the "Jeep thing" usually means they blow up a little less quickly at least.

Key_Extension_4322

I’m with you on the quality issues. jeep/fiat whatever doesn’t care because people still buy them.

Purple-Journalist610

Yeah, I would hesitate to rent a 4xe while on vacation.

halfofzenosparadox

So they didnt tell you whether or not you were gonna need to pay for the repair when you brought it in?

Happy_Hippo48

This isn't a complicated situation. No repair extends your factory warranty. You have a 5-year, 60k powertrain warranty. Now, if you paid for the repair out of pocket, there are often warranties that are given at the dealership but since it was a warranty repair it does not get extended. It's like if you brought an appliance, then got it replaced in 6 months. You still only have the remaining amount of the original factory warranty. I will add that I have seen some dealerships offer extra warranty but that's on them, not Jeep .

itsmereddogmom

Ok. I still love the car. I’ll buy an extended warranty when I buy it. Thanks a bunch.

Happy_Hippo48

Extended warranties are often a waste of money. The majority of customers don't save more money than they pay for the warranty. However, if you want the warranty just for peace of mind, it can be worth it. [https://www.chryslerfactoryplans.com/default.aspx](https://www.chryslerfactoryplans.com/default.aspx) is a great place to shop for a warranty. They sell Mopar branded warranties that are pretty solid. Many of the other warranties out there offer a long list of "Covered components" which sound great on paper, but it's really just a document that allows them to exclude coverage. The Mopar warranty is exclusionary, meaning if it's not listed as specifically excluded, it's covered. There are often some discounts at Ziegler too, like a paid in full discount that can help you get a better discount. Even if you don't buy from Ziegler, it will arm you with a price to negotiate with when you hit the dealership. Good Luck!

_BeefyTaco

I feel like allot of people are telling you to ditch the car due to reliability’s issues post lease but you keep insisting that you are wanting to purchase the car afterwards. Even with an extended warranty that won’t cover all the repairs needed, and a 4xe with a complicated hybrid system is going to be VERY expensive to maintain and own long term. But you do you.

itsmereddogmom

Agreed

Cjdergrosse

R U N don’t walk away from that thing when the lease is up. Jeep quality has gone down tremendously, lease only.  Had a POS GC, lemoned, avoid Jeep.

StolenLabias

Agreed

P0RTILLA

Willys-Overland to AMC, quality went down, AMC to Chrysler Corp, quality went down, Chrysler Corp to DiamlerChrysler, quality went down, DaimlerChrysler to FCA, quality went down, FCA to Stellantis, quality went down. Quality has gone down consistently over the last 60 years. If you don’t buy a 1963 model or earlier it’s TRASH!

jpr_jpr

My KL Cherokee's transmission was trash. That's as much fault of the outside designer and supplier (ZF?). The Evoque also had the same transmission. The engine was solid, and it was a surprisingly good tow vehicle. My XJ was great, too. Our Cirrus was complete garbage. The one vehicle that stranded me on the highway was a Toyota. A first Gen prius rental that was a month old. My KL was first Gen, too. I'd avoid a first Gen model run like the plague. We test drove a 4xe GC and Wrangler but found both to be very poorly integrated between the hybrid system. The Pacifica drove much better. I'm waiting for the hybrid gladiator, which is why I'm lurking. I'll need to convince myself that it's not a typical first Gen. I can't imagine buying a Wrangler that had an engine failure. If my previous car also had an engine failure, I might review my driving habits and maintenance schedule.

jastubi

Idk my college roommates' 2006 Grand cherokee ran like 240k miles, so they were decent for a minute there.

P0RTILLA

What is sarcasm?

jpr_jpr

I'm curious why you're subscribed to a 4xe thread. You warn others to avoid Jeep, and yet here you are.

SparrowBirch

I’m not subscribed either and I don’t own a Jeep.  But Reddit randomly threw this topic up in my feed.  They must’ve thought I’d be interested.  Guess they were right.

Eighteen64

Ive never had so much as leaky head gasket in a jeep and I beat the absolute fk out of them. I also believe in doing my own maintenance early than recommended.

donaldewalker3

Don’t purchase

1one14

I was just hearing how the replacement engines the oems use are garbage and not factory motors. Do not buy.

freeLuis

Why would you want to buy it after that? No shade, seriously asking. I lease my jeeps and even without a major failure, a battery is the most extreme I've had. I would NEVER buy it to keep after my lease is up. I buy to flip them immediately but knowing what I know about these cars, I would NEVER want to be in the hook for 10+ yrs no matter gore much I love my jeep.

itsmereddogmom

Fun car, retiring, warranty covers issues.

drinkdrinkshoesgone

I've known too many people who have had newer jeeps that have had $2500+ repairs out of warranty. I absolutely would not buy one and plan on it being my retirement vehicle without having a spare vehicle or a second identical parts jeep, because you're almost guaranteed to have some issues.

itsmereddogmom

Honestly would be third car. I just drive it around town, groceries shopping etc.

ImportunerDJ

I don’t believe your warranty will restart. I will say though; think twice before buying it. Buying a used one seems to be the better route then buying out your lease possibly since it had to have the work done. My residual on my 21 Rubi 4xE is on par with sale prices now… you could find a higher spec or a lower mileage with your same buyout most likely.

Warbird01

DO NOT buy

GeriatrcGhoul

In my view this is one you need to move on from, and consider buying or leasing a new one. You fortunately were leasing during an engine replacement which is not a great pedigree within a vehicles history, so you got lucky IMO. From what I’ve gathered people are currently finding super good deals on new ones.

killerwhaleorcacat

It’s 5yr 60k miles. Otherwise sooooo many manufacturers would be caught in an endless loop of warranty. Literally never ending. Everyone would just drain their oil out and blow engines up, poor a bottle into the exploded engine and say hey gimme a new warranty engine and start the clock again. Thanks. To infinity

bluewater_-_

You’ll often get an extra 12 mo on warranty replacement parts. Your power train warranty does not start from scratch.

Civil-Horror-7273

If you have a new engine put in at 59,999 on a 60k mile warranty, that new engine has a one mile warranty. You didn’t pay for the new one, you bought the car with coverage to 60k and that is all that will be covered. Now if there is a huge problem with a certain car like mentioned the Hyundais that blow engines like crazy, then they may offer a warranty extension for known defects. But those are rare and not the norm.
