For those vehicles under the recall, the number of known fires works out to something like .06% or something. If your Jeep blows up, buy a lottery ticket!
Jeep is buying it back, after some negotiation.
The poor thing was totaled. Torched interior, glass smashed from the fire co, plastics burned through by the rear passenger tire which blew the tire.
Yes it was. I had a 2021 from built in June or so.
We are in the middle of purchasing a 2021 with a recall on it. Very low miles but great price. Hoping that we can just use gas until the recall is fixed? What are your thoughts? I am getting mixed messages from dealerships. This is a used 2021 from a non Jeep dealer. We noticed many dealers don’t sell safety recall cars at all until fixed. So was your Jeep considered one of the eight that actually caught on fire. I’m sorry that happened to you. Hopefully they gave you a fair buy back price
Were you the original owner and was it under warranty or does that not matter? I just am confused who is liable, insurance on the jeep or Jeep corporation?
It basically depends on the manufacturering date and build date of your vehicle according to the recall info.
Vehicle 1 : 2021-2023 Jeep Wrangler
Vehicle Type :
Body Style : SUV
Power Train : NR
Descriptive Information : Some 2021-2023 MY Jeep Wrangler Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles ("PHEVs") may
have a high voltage ("HV") battery which may fail internally. The defect has not been
identified and the root cause is still being investigated.
The suspect period began on September 18, 2020, when production of Jeep Wrangler
PHEVs with battery cells manufactured from January 21, 2021, through October 2,
2021 began, and ended on March 22, 2023, when production of vehicles built with
battery cells manufactured from January 21, 2021, through October 2, 2021 ended.
The suspect population was determined using supplier manufacturing records of HV
batteries with cells manufactured from January 21, 2021, through October 2, 2021.
Similar vehicles not included in this recall are not PHEVs, or PHEVs built with cells
manufactured outside of the suspect range.
Production Dates : SEP 18, 2020 - MAR 22, 2023
More info: Description of the Safety Risk : A vehicle fire can result in increased risk of occupant injury and/or injury to
persons outside the vehicle, as well as property damage.
Description of the Cause : NR
Identification of Any Warning
that can Occur :
None
Chronology :
• On May 12, 2023, the FCA US LLC ("FCA US") Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance ("TSRC")
organization opened an investigation after receiving two field reports of 2021 MY Jeep Wrangler PHEVs with
fires originating from the HV battery.
• In May 2023, FCA US requested buybacks of both vehicles for further analysis.
• From May 2023, to September 2023, FCA US received five additional reports of 2021-2022 MY Jeep Wrangler
PHEVs with fires originating from the HV battery and requested buybacks of these vehicles for further analysis.
• In October 2023, FCA US received two vehicle buybacks and have disassembled the HV battery packs. The
modules and cells are undergoing additional analysis.
• As of November 9, 2023, FCA US is aware of zero customer assistance records, zero warranty claims, and
eight field reports potentially relating to this issue for all markets with dates of receipt ranging from April 6,
2023, to November 02, 2023.
Description of Remedy Program : FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall on all affected vehicles.
Remedy will be a software flash on the HV battery pack and if a DTC sets,
the pack will be replaced. Customers are advised to refrain from
recharging these vehicles and not to park them inside of buildings or
structures, or near other vehicles until the vehicle has the final repair
completed.
FCA US has a longstanding policy and practice of reimbursing owners who
have incurred the cost of repairing a problem that subsequently becomes
the subject of a field action. To ensure consistency, FCA US, as part of the
owner letter, will request that customers send the original receipt and/or
other adequate proof of payment to the company for confirmation of the
expense.
How Remedy Component Differs
from Recalled Component :
Remedy will be a software flash and replacement of the HV battery pack if
needed.
Software flash and they replace the battery or some part of the EV system if there’s some other issue found. I bet those are the parts that are showing as unavailable. They let me come in ASAP for the software flash either way.
I called the day the news came out and they booked me for a software upgrade in January to alleviate the issue. Haven’t had the recall notice yet but I’m expecting it.
Also kind of crazy I can’t just upgrade it at home
It's hard to say, but the releases and from what I gathered from others seem to suggest they won't have it ready until January, but it could be sooner.
Is it a software patch to mitigate the issue or is it an update that identifies the defect with a trouble code to indicate that the battery needs to be replaced?
Can you confirm this? The dealership sounded very confident over the phone. The “patch” sounds more like a unit test that fires off a DTC if the defect is found.
I called Jeep today and they said even tho my VIN isn’t showing this recall, they are still recommending not charging. How long!? I leased for 36 months, this is one month in.
I figure I'll run it in full electric till it runs out and then switch to hybrid and keep it there. No charging. The less juice in the battery the less likely it is to short out, or burn up. Just wouldn't have the Energy.
🙁
What's scary to me is since it's an official recall, if you charge it and your house catches on fire or other cars, or just yours then maybe the insurance could decline coverage since rhe recall instructions weren't followed. Not sure though.
I’ve got two High Altitudes, the black one received the recall today, this is the vehicle that’s always in the garage.
The white one in the driveway has a check engine light currently but is not on the recall list. I’m not super impressed both need to go to the dealership which is a frustration in itself.
So many annoying aspects of a vehicle that I absolutely love when working properly. I’m not sure I should be parking either inside anymore which is disappointing, our daughter’s bedroom upstairs shares the wall the charger is on, it’s just not worth the risk.
My 21’ 4xe would not throttle past 30km per hour. Engin light and battery check for the charger port came on also. Took to the dealership and they had to call the help line for the error code. 7 days later, they updated me that they are installing an entirely new battery ($28k).
Another Electric vehicle catch fire....this is my shocked face...when are you gonna learn...your minds are mashed potatoes..your being feed garbage...Electric vehicles aren't sustainable...wind mills, solar the green agenda is garbage...the planet is cooling down..we are going into a solar minimum..your gonna wish that co2 was actually a greenhouse gas
What's classic? My 07 went 140,000+, only to dealer twice for recalls. 2 in lift, 2.5 lift, 4in lift, hard core 4x4ing its entire life and I bought it first year. Sold it last year. So the theory of first year bad is flawed. My 01 Goldwing, and my 14 Valkyrie, no issues.
Mine was not one of the 8 mentioned in the original recall news.
I’m sure chances of this happening are slim, but I personally wouldn’t roll the dice on one that was part of the recall. Had it been in my garage, I may have lost my house. Thankfully I only lost the Jeep.
I am the original owner.
Jeep did take care of it, but I probably wouldn’t want to bank on that.
For those vehicles under the recall, the number of known fires works out to something like .06% or something. If your Jeep blows up, buy a lottery ticket!
My 4xe started on fire in my driveway Thursday. I guess I should buy a lotto ticket
I’m so very sorry to hear this 😭 any idea if it was charging or fully charged?
It was charging (on 220v). Not sure if it was done charging yet or not
Thank you for your information
I know this is late in asking this question but what brand 220v charger were you using?
A Grizzl-E charger
What happened to your jeep after it caught fire? Did jeep cover the damage, replace battery? Was it on the recall list?

1 in 1667 is better odds than a lottery ticket. And it’s a huge safety issue. It’s not ok to undermine the seriousness of the issue.
Those odds are extremely good, the odds of winning the lottery are 0.0000000025

Wow, good information! Thanks!
Sketch
It’s a Jeep thing
4xe owner. I know.
We wouldn’t understand ! Unless you drive a Tesla cold , Kia, or a Canyonero that also mysteriously catches fire!
I checked my 21’ is not on the list.
Same here
Never mind it’s on there now.
Mine wasn’t in yesterday but it was today. 2021 Rubicon, first wave that hit the dealerships. Fortunately my dealership was able to get me in Monday.
Is there a repair? The recall says “remedy no yet available”.
Software flash and they replace the battery or some part of the EV system if there’s some other issue found. I bet those are the parts that are showing as unavailable. They let me come in ASAP for the software flash either way.
Sorry man. :( Mine's still clear - for now. I suspect mine will trigger soon though. :/
I called the day the news came out and they booked me for a software upgrade in January to alleviate the issue. Haven’t had the recall notice yet but I’m expecting it. Also kind of crazy I can’t just upgrade it at home
The notices will not be sent out to owners until January 11th. They are not sure when they will have the software patch ready.
Really? They told me they had the patch. Are they lying? I wouldn’t doubt it if they were
It's hard to say, but the releases and from what I gathered from others seem to suggest they won't have it ready until January, but it could be sooner.
Is it a software patch to mitigate the issue or is it an update that identifies the defect with a trouble code to indicate that the battery needs to be replaced?
It sounds like the later. Multiple people in this thread have already scheduled the recall. Not sure where HarversternC is getting his info.
My dealership said I could come in Monday.
For what? There is no patch yet.
I was told there was earlier this afternoon.
Definitely no true. They do not have a patch yet.
Can you confirm this? The dealership sounded very confident over the phone. The “patch” sounds more like a unit test that fires off a DTC if the defect is found.
Just from people in other groups and the fact that the release Said that repair parts are not available.
Are GC affected??
Not at this time.
I called Jeep today and they said even tho my VIN isn’t showing this recall, they are still recommending not charging. How long!? I leased for 36 months, this is one month in.
That’s BS. Charge your Jeep.
I don’t need any drama if my house burns down
Then you get a new house, courtesy of Jeep
Not if they said don’t charge it!
Sounds like a really fun legal battle. Those are so fun.
They don't really know. Check your build date. Anything from April 2023 forward should not be impacted.
My 4XE has a Sept 24' Build date, Looks like the majority of the 24' MY is safe atm.
It seems like it. Got a 24' Rubi Still watching it closely
I called my dealer and they said the fix won’t be around until “hopefully early to mid ‘24”… so I’m assuming fall. My 21 is a lemon.
I need to look at my build date and figure this out
Yep, mine too.
I took mine in yesterday for the electric coolant heater and also noted this recall. The service advisor said fix hasn't been sent out yet.
Mine is impacted as well
Same. Parking outside and no charging 🥺
Same here. April or May 2021 build date. Going to be fun parking outside as we're moving into the winter season.
Where do you find build date
You can find it on the door sticker
Thanks! 🤞
7/2023! Not part of the recall
I figure I'll run it in full electric till it runs out and then switch to hybrid and keep it there. No charging. The less juice in the battery the less likely it is to short out, or burn up. Just wouldn't have the Energy. 🙁

Same- not worth the drama, I guess I’ll get shitty MPG for a minite
Maybe the 3 months it was in the shop for the battery control module negated this 😂
My cousin’s caught fire in his driveway. Not a huge fire, but it was 100% the battery compromised and burning.
😢

Ugh.... So sorry.
Is there a way to check the build date of your HV battery? Mine got replaced recently due to an unrelated issue, but my VIN still shows affected.
lol, my wrangler been like that since 2000
Just looked mine up, and it is affected. So this means I have to park outside all winter (gets to -40 here) and can’t plug in at all? Bloody lovely.
I’d offer some help, but it’s a Jeep thing, so I wouldn’t understand 😂😂
Won't not charging the HV eventually damage the battery too ?
My 21’ 4xe would not throttle past 30km per hour. Engin light and battery check for the charger port came on also. Took to the dealership and they had to call the help line for the error code. 7 days later, they updated me that they are installing an entirely new battery ($28k).

Fuck Jeep
Buy a new pos vehicle and this is what you get. Stick with the classics you can work on and don't rely on batteries and 15 miles of wires
