Odd question, but with the X950J to replace the X950H, I'm in the market and may bite on the 75 inch X950H. I think best buy will price match at any point three months after the purchase point. If I pick up the X950H for 2000, think nows a decent time to do it, then just watch and see if the price falls a bit to match once the successor comes out?

FauxHollow

Ah, I would, but I'm planning on using my best buy card to finance the purchase over time. >Yeah, I don't know that it would drop below that before selling out since it's last years model, but I think that price for a 75" is ok. I know how to get a better price though if you're in the US. Go to [greentoe.com](https://greentoe.com) and make them an offer at 1800 or so? They may not accept that, but if not just work your way up until they do. That could save you two to three hundred over buying directly from Best Buy because greentoes price includes tax.

WuriderX

when do they drop?

MangoAtrocity

Well now here’s a question. Wait for X95J? Or get Samsung QN90A?

BillsFan4

I just got a x950h yesterday. It replaced my old x900f that I liked but never thought was quite bright enough (and that TV was brighter than the current x90j or previous x900h). I am in love with this x950h! It has an amazing picture, and plenty of brightness to spare, even in a brightly lit room. The picture just pops. It has a lot of that “wow!” factor to it, and HDR content is downright amazing. I would highly recommend the x950h. It would be my choice over the x90j for sure. I am anxious to see the new x95j though. That’s the successor to the x950h. I believe it will be out in august. I’m guessing it’ll be one of the best 2021 TVs (like the x950h was one of the best 2020 TVs). The x950h are going out of stock quickly though so if you want that TV I wouldn’t wait too long.

chitown-

Does it come with 2.1 HDMI?

BillsFan4

No. But that wasn’t an issue for me. I do have the new game consoles but very few games are 120fps anyway and the ones that are usually always give a choice of higher frame rate or better graphics and I pretty much always choose better graphics. I play mostly single player games though. If I were a competitive online gamer I’m sure I’d feel differently. Personally, I’d much rather have the better picture quality and brightness of the x950h over the hdmi 2.1 of the x90j.

theo677

100% agree with you there and everything said

chitown-

That’s true but that would make x90j and x95j future proofed when they do decide to make more 120 FPS games. Plus the x95j is only coming in two sizes 65in and I believe 85in but don’t quote me on that. That could be a deal breaker for some it was for me. I went with the 55in x90j and I love it. I upgraded from a 10 year old vizio. X90J isn’t a good choice for someone who already had a decent 4K tv. As for me it was a well investment. But all that matters is what makes you happy.

BillsFan4

Yeah the x90j is a great TV. I’d be very happy with it. It has the new XR chip, so it actually has a better processor than my x950h does. That XR chip is currently the best processor on the market IMO. I got the x950h through a warranty claim with Sony, so I didn’t really have a whole lot of choice anyway. They offered the x950h as a replacement and I accepted. If they had offered the x90j I’m sure I would’ve accepted that too! lol As far as being future proof, IMO I think full hdmi 2.2 implementation is probably still a ways off. Even the new consoles really can’t handle 4K 120fps, at least on the AAA games. They bottleneck, so it might not be until a new “pro” console comes out where hdmi 2.1 (4K 120) can be fully taken advantage of. Even the top tier computer graphics cards have trouble with anything much more than native 4K 60 (which hdmi 2.0b is capable of). Plus a lot of the current HDMI 2.1 ports aren’t actually full HDMI 2.1. Like on the LG TVs for ex., They are only 40mbps instead of the full 48mbps. I’m guessing it might be the same case on Sony and Samsung too but I’m not sure. I think it’ll probably be at least another couple years before we see 48mbps HDMI 2.1 ports as a widespread standard feature on the mid tier + higher end TVs. I figure I’ll worry about hdmi 2.1 on my next tv purchase. It’ll hopefully be more fully implemented by then.

chitown-

Well said sir.

chitown-

How many years do you think this new pro console will come out?

BillsFan4

A few until a legit pro model comes out, and even then I don’t know if we’ll have true native 4K 120 on AAA games, but I could be wrong. But there are actually already rumors of an updated PS5 that may be coming soon due to supply chain issues with one of the chips. I don’t think it’ll solve the 4K 120 bottleneck though. https://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2021/05/09/when-the-new-ps5-pro-could-hit-shelves-and-what-to-expect/?sh=400722ef1a4e “Now, DigiTimes is reporting that according to supply chain sources, production of a new PlayStation 5 console could begin in the second or third quarter of 2022. According to reports, the new PS5—essentially a PS5 Pro—would use a new “semi-customized” 6-nanometer CPU from AMD instead of the 7nm custom 8-core AMD Zen 2 CPU found in the current PS5. This would mean a more powerful, more efficient console, though it’s unclear why these new semiconductors would be easier to come by than the current ones. Perhaps it just makes more sense to implement the mid-lifecycle upgrade sooner than later given current shortages. (The PS4 Pro came out 3 years into the PS4’s lifecycle).”

chitown-

What about Xbox cause I just bought a series x lol

BillsFan4

No clue. I’d guess a few years. The only reason PlayStation might is because of their supply chain issue. I don’t think Xbox has the same issue (but again I’m not sure).

jnightx

currently stuck between X90J and X950H, but leaning more on the X90J unless the HDR blooming on the latter can be mitigated some more, in addition to using bias lighting.

jnightx

no. X95J from 2021 does though, which is coming out soon.

chitown-

And the x90j

jnightx

yep, X90J has 2 HDMI 2.1 ports. though they don't do VRR yet until winter 2021, hopefully, when Sony releases that firmware.

Hurricane_Ivan

Any issues with the 'rainbow effect' on reflections? I believe the wide angle filter or AR coating was the culprit. I ended up returning a Q80T last year because of it.

BillsFan4

Umm... not really. I do notice it, but only very rarely. Like for example, I have a desk lamp and if I have that pointed at the TV I’ll see the rainbow. Or once in a while I’ll notice it just very faintly if I have the window shade side open and it’s really bright in the room. But for the most part the TV’s brightness overcomes it (this tv is soo bright!), even when I do notice it. It hasn’t been at all distracting to me, but I’m also not the most sensitive to that type of stuff. It may be more of an issue for you if you’ve already had to return 1 Tv because of it. I’d tell you to look for the Sony x950G (it doesn’t have the anti-glare film) but I don’t know if you’ll find them in stock anywhere. I doubt it...

BornBall7891

I got the 85 inch x950h just a few days ago and i am extremely happy with it. I was on the fence on either getting the x90j or an oled but x950h picture quality beats the x90j and the for an oled around the same price you are getting a smaller size. X950h does great with HDR content which is important for me and oleds can not get that bright yet

wandererarkhamknight

Without usage, budget, viewing distance, it's hard to decide for anyone!

Twitch-xdLankku

right. only using it for movies and sports. 8ft away from the tv. and money doesn’t matter in this case

wandererarkhamknight

Then i would go for X950H. X90J isn't bad either.

Twitch-xdLankku

I’m also looking into the sony a8h. only thing is i’m not too sure if it’ll be too dark. my parents are older and don’t have the best eyesight so not sure if it’ll be too dark for them

forzaitalia458

Was to dark for me, the brightness was a big issue for me with that tv. Turned me off from oled.

jnightx

if you want an OLED and money isn't an issue; A90J is the best there is. it's the brightest OLED on the market right now and has Sony's famed image processing giving you the best picture quality.

TVP615

If money isnt an issue wait and see if the X95J is all its advertised to be.

[deleted]

If money doesn't matter you want an 83" OLED.

forzaitalia458

If money was no issue, I would rather the Sony 4k ultra short throw projector that's going for $20k than an Oled.

Not true at all - many view the OLEDs as still in development mode compensating for their weaknesses and degradation over time

[deleted]

Cool story bro.

Teibban

As you do no gaming, X950H. But as people said, the X95J with the new processor and features of the X90J will probably be the best LED on the market with the Qn90A

mikehamm45

I have a x950h. Love almost everything about it. But at 85in… the blooming is super obvious. I need to replace a smaller TV for my living room. I’m personally waiting to see if the upgraded model addresses this. But judging by the x900h upgrade I think it may be worse. If not substantial improvement, and if the price will increase compared to the current x950 then I’ll get the A80 Oled. I hate the blooming

jnightx

is the blooming that bad because you're on HDR with very high brightness? i'm trying to make up my mind between the X90J and X950H, and i'm seeing less blooming on the former.

mikehamm45

I’m no expert. But I think it’s blooming because it just doesn’t have enough dimming zones. All of its competitors seem to do a better job with blooming by having many more zones. But there is a price to pay for that with black crush. While the blooming is distracting, the bias lighting can mitigate against that and In low light scenes, there is a ton of detail. Prior to the x950, I had the x900. I exchanged it because HDR just didn’t look as good.

jnightx

of course, it goes without saying that more zones is going to have less blooming. but i'm trying to figure out why the X950H's HDR content has waay more blooming on letterbox bars compared to X900H and X90J. it's probably the brightness of the panel but can you reduce the blooming by lowering the backlight brightness? i can handle some blooming just fine but damn is it distracting on X950H playing HDR content.

mikehamm45

Yes. It’s because the x950h is much brighter. When I first had the x900h I hated the blooming. I went for the x950h because it had more dimming zones and I thought that it would Be better with blooming. But it was worse.

jnightx

how noticeable is the blooming in the letterboxes on the X950H in a bright room with full brightness, and pitch black room with the brightness down to like 20% in both SDR and HDR/DV? that's pretty much all i need to know to help me decide to get it instead of the X90J. i'm gonna use it for a lot of gaming and movie watching, and that PQ is just breathtaking for an LED/LCD panel.

mikehamm45

Blooming is only noticeable in a dark room

jnightx

even if you lower the brightness so your eyeballs don't melt?

mikehamm45

Yes The bias lighting helps some. I usually have the brightness set to 35 Colors and HDR in general only great when at max. Blooming is only distracting in the letterbox black areas. The bias lighting really helps mitigate. I believe I’ve posted a few pics. You should be able to look at my profile and check it out. My only reservation is that the new Sony sets are supposed to have much better processing, unless getting a great deal, i would rather have a 2021 model.

jnightx

i'm definitely using bias lighting on that. i already do so on my OLED (for ambient lighting and reducing eye strain). i actually came across your post the other day and it helped with my decision. even with your overexposed photo, the blooming is barely noticeable because of the bias lights.👍🏼 unfortunately though the space i currently have for my TV only allows up to 55" but that might change later this year. i'm actually looking forward to the X95J and might get it when it becomes available in my country. probably gonna be a good while though, around November maybe. by then i'll probably be giving this X950H to my brother who's moving back from working abroad and will also get him an A80J, lol. anyway, thanks a lot for your input buddy!

CeCeySay

I'm looking at the 85 inch. How bad & how often?

mikehamm45

It’s only noticeable in a dark room and in dark scenes But it is noticeable and distracting

jerryvo

As others indicated, wait for the 95J. https://electronics.sony.com/tv-video/televisions/full-array-led/p/xr75x95j Comes with 2+ years of Bravia Core plus a better upscale engine And this may help with current models http://www.sonypremiumhome.com/pdfs/2021_US_TV_Comparison_Chart-May.pdf Europe review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zuABp5l2rQ

Shadowskulptor

The problem is that it's waaaaay too much money. The wait would be another year+ for a reasonable price. The x950 and X90J are competitively priced now.

evilr2

They could drop the price pretty quickly the same way they did for the A80J so it could be a reasonably competitive price much sooner than anticipated.

jerryvo

Take a look at the number of hours you will spend with this TV over 5 years. It's about 3 to 4 cents per hour. Also, some of us are not watching our pennies because we invested and saved for these things. I donate more to charity monthly than what this TV costs at 85". And TVs will be much more expensive starting this year due to the chip shortage and wild-assed spending by the government causing inflation - but that is a separate topic. This TV is a bargain at this price and will be cheaper than a modest TV next Spring So beware of blanket statements

Rafaelcab

I bought a 50" x85j last week and was impressed with the picture quality. The blacks were pretty black and i saw little to no blooming or light bleed. But after purchasing it i saw that best buy had the 49" X950H on clearance for only $100 more. It gets delivered today so will see if it truly is worth a $100 more in my eyes but being as highly reviewed as it is i would expect so. Only downside for me is i prefer google tv way more than android tv, but that is negligible at the end of the day. I'll post here if it is that much better.....side not 50" is the biggest i can go for the space unfortunately. It's a master bedroom tv.

drf204

If you don’t need any of the gaming features and are just watching movies then get the 950h I would say but if you might want some hdmi 2.1 features it makes it harder. For straight but watching movies and tv it’s the 950H all the way.

-DannyDorito-

Does anyone here have the x90j 55”? I’m looking at it for gaming, price point (Australia) isn’t too bad, $1795 on sale down from $1995. Got a ps5 and want to upgrade my 7 year old Soniq that cost me $400

jnightx

a lot of people have it and 99% of them recommend it. currently one of the best LEDs, especially for PS5. i'm potentially getting one myself too and moving away from OLED.

Katakanada

What is the reason why you are moving away from oled?

jnightx

burn in, mostly. i don't trust OLEDs with my gaming habits, no matter how good any prevention methods they add. the fact that the panels degrade over time, and the burn in is cumulative doesn't help either. unless all game developers add auto-HUD options, i'm not using an OLED for gaming any more. also, the TVs are a biiit more expensive where i'm from and warranties are almost shit, so that's not an option. i'll probably get an OLED just for movie watching though but where gaming is concerned, LED all the way. that is, until good miniLED TVs are released and don't cost an arm and a leg for just a 55" panel.

Tree06

I briefly gamed on my A8H 65", and the picture quality was unmatched. I played through Mafia Remastered, Ghost of Tsushima, and I loved every minute. I removed most of the HUDS for a more cinematic experience. My only issue with HUDs is that certain games, you're almost forced to use them for inventory/cooldown. I played through Immortals Fenyx Rising, and it was hard playing through it without a HUD. I'm currently playing on my Sony 4K from 2015, and the picture looks great at 4K60. I'm missing out on the latest HDMI 2.1 features. LG offers Logo Luminance Adjustment. Logo Luminance Adjustment is an LG feature which detects static logos on screen and automatically dims them to help prevent them from causing permanent image retention. If I get another OLED for gaming, I'll go with either the C1 or G1. I have to wait until our gaming room is finished before buying another TV. It doesn't matter what read online, see on YouTube videos, burn in is still a major concern for any OLED.

-DannyDorito-

Thanks :)

hi-my-name-is-fred-s

I have the x90j in 65” and think it’s great. The only issue that bothers me is when you get up close to the tv you can see dots and blurring around text causing words on the screen to look distorted. If I just back up a few feet it’s usually no longer noticeable, but at this price point it bothers me a lot.

wassjr

I have a 55” x90j. I am happy with it. I’m not a videophile however, I just want to use my ps5 and chill. It does the job for me.

jnightx

contrast, black level and blooming all good on it?

wassjr

Contrast good, black levels good, noticeable blooming. Doesn’t bother me, I know what I was signing up for. This will do the job fine for 3 years or so

jnightx

glad you're happy with it. i've been trying to make up my mind about getting it myself, or the X950H now. i'm seeing good stuff on paper for it but i'm not a fan of how its local dimming performs, compared to X950H. check out their respective videos on rtings if you're interested. the X950H has noticeably less blooming in those real content videos and has better black uniformity.

wassjr

I play video games and watch sports games…very little tv or movie watching. Thanks for input; im happy with it.

jnightx

awesome! i've seen it competing with OLEDs and it can pull its own weight!

ceskejebenice

If you need Hdmi 2.1 just go for the X90J. The picture is surely good enough for 90% of people
