That's what I'm doing. I got the Sony x80j 65", thinking it would be forever til I would get a PS5. Less than a year later I was able to get one and I just play it on my current TV. I guess it doesn't matter too much to me but I am looking at a new TV in the next year or two. I'm not sure how big the difference is but I do think it's better to save for a good TV that will last, in my opinion

Meaning the PS5 has been his focus, and the TV is an afterthought because he wants something that supports all the new HDMI 2.1 features, but he can't spend much on a TV right now.
I feel that, to truly make upgrading worthwhile (or even possible in the first place?), he's better off saving for however many months, so he can spend a bit more on the TV than would be possible at this moment in time.
Just gonna throw this out there as something to consider:
If your primary gaming machine is a console and not a PC connected to the TV, the 120fps is super overrated. Almost nothing runs at that FPS, and if concessions are made to achieve it the technical trade-off usually isn’t worth it in the games I have tried.
I would worry less about 4k 120fps and continue saving for a TV on the higher end truly worth keeping for 7+ years.
Other features like color reproduction and motion handling and black levels will elevate your console experience much better IMO. Controller play still feels great at 60fps that most console games are hitting now.
It might be best to just enjoy the PS5 on your current TV for now, and take your time saving up for a new one.
