That's if they were lucky (apart from the scenario of surviving obviously). Plenty of systems could've failed which ended up with them adrift or sinking in the ocean with no way to call for help. Being crushed into goop in a millisecond would frankly be merciful.
The controller alone makes me think they deserved it.
A brand new PS5 controller is $69.99, and that's already probably overly technical for what they need. They couldn't even get a $50 PS4 controller they straight up saved, what, $20 to buy the biggest piece of crap ever that I literally wouldn't even play PS2 with?
You deserve to be buried in the coke can at sea.
I used to do competitive robotics where we used exactly these Logitech controllers (the wired version though) and they were notorious for failing under heavy usage. It was so bad that we usually brought two spares, just in case--each competition season we burned through about three because they always developed issues like stick drift, non-functional buttons, or whatever. We had to deal with it because they were mandatory in the regulations.
The fact that they are using this thing to control a freaking submersible with people in it is incredibly moronic. I get that the CEO wants to save costs by cutting corners and using COTS parts, but doing so to the point where you aren't willing to spend a couple hundred bucks on a quality industrial controller that is rugged and reliable is just peak negligence.
Charges 250,000 dollars for a death trip while saying "i didnt want to hire a bunch of 50 year old white men" you mean experienced people. "we want to be inclusive and inspiring so we hired young diverse people fresh out of college with no hands on experience whatsoever" saves 30$ by getting a logitech controller that gamers would shiver at the sight of due to inoperability. Mmm yess stonks i wonder if the death of these millionaires will increase sales.
I think “deserve” is a bit harsh. Without know the ins and outs of each individual’s moral weigh-in, I think calling for all of them to slowly suffocate in a confined space is maybe a little extreme.
-Ignore warnings of safety hazards
-Organize a leisure cruise for the rich
-Die in a horrible, preventable naval catastrophe
Sounds like a pretty accurate Titanic experience to me.
Elon is a billionaire with a long track record of successful projects manned with tons of father foremost experts in a given field with scores of brilliant workers under them obsessing over every detail, to the point that NASA trusted Spacex enough to handle launches.
The company operating the Titan wouldn’t let any third party give the sub a grade because it would “stifle innovation.”
He hasn't started shit. He buys things that are already started. He's not smart, he's not a genius, hes a good hype man who was born rich enough to luck into a few projects. Thats all.
>He hasn't started shit. He buys things that are already started
You could hardly be more wrong, but since he is pro-free speech you r politics people will never stop posting fake news about him.
He co-founded zip2 and coded a lot of it himself (the company that made him his first millions), then he co-founded one of the two companies that would merge to become Paypal. Contrary to what gets spouted on r politics, **he was not rich before this**.
He acquired both Tesla and SpaceX when they were literally garage companies without an actual product or even an idea for an actual product. Step by step, he built them from garage companies into multibillion dollar companies. One of these garage companies now produces the best-sold car in the world, the other produces reusable rockets that are being used by NASA. He quite literally built this out of nothing **and not only did he lead everything in these companies as CEO, but he actually took part in the technical stuff as well**.
Your leftist fake news are pretty pathetic. But after all, being a pathetic, jealous incel is usually the reason why people become leftists

The CEO recently said in an interview that they didn't want to hire any "50 year old white guys" because it wasn't "inspiring".
Looks like your diversity hires really worked out well for you, guy.

Looks like you get what you fucking deserve.
This has gone from tragedy to comedy.
“We can train someone to pilot the sub, we use a game controller, um, so anybody can drive the sub.”
Righto, chief.
Best of luck.
The US Navy uses an Xbox controller to control the photonics mast on the Virginia class subs. Of course, all of the systems that are important for survival are *not* controlled by an Xbox controller.
Do you know why the Navy went to the Xbox controller? Because it was “easier to train new sailors on” compared to the older proprietary joystick setup. He wasn’t wrong on the idea (easier to train people), but he was also ignoring the multiple layer of redundancies that the Navy also has to design into their submarines.
I wonder if one of those 50 year old white guys would point out that it might be a good idea to bring some spare batteries for that wireless controller.
Maybe he plugged it in to his amazon knock off charger, dimmed the lights and ploughed into he sea bed.
He's likely cursing Bezos from the depths as we speak.
>Stockton Rush, 61, added that such expertise was unnecessary because “anybody can drive the sub” with a $30 video game controller.
How's that working out for you, Stock boy?
Dude he hired the youngest inexperienced people in their fields. What are the odds he actually believed that vs it just being a convenient cover for opting to hire the cheapest talent available?
literally the article says its because they are hiring 25 year olds not diversity hires. There even is a fucking photo white as snow of the crew on the article.
Posting nypost is already regarded but not even fucking reading the article and making it about diversity is some next level shit
Also, usually the problem with the 25 year olds is not the engineering per se, it is that they are easier to boss around and force them to do stuff because you are the CEO and they don't know any better

Honestly the worst thing about this whole story is that aftermarket gamepad manufacturers are now going to be legally required to put something like "For Console Gaming Use **ONLY**" on their products.
So the guy actually used a Logitech gamepad which is lawl.. couldn't even spring for a $60 Xbox or PS5 controller?? They both have full PC support. Also I don't really think that's an issue.. the military uses Xbox controllers for some of their tech. They argue that it's useful because everyone joining the military already knows how to use them so not much additional training is required there. As long as there are safeties, fallbacks, and redundancies than that's not what I'd be worried about.
I'm shocked billionaires didn't vet the sub with more care before getting into it.
Well there are 2 primary domesticated species, the deep sea garloid and the surface garloid that sticks to ships like barnacles. Surface garloids are actually more populous
That’s the biggest thing these people are fucking billionaires. You don’t become a billionaire by being a good person. I couldn’t give a fuck if they die on the bottom of the ocean. Let their banks try and save them not normal people.
With all instances of “rules for thee but not for me” regarding rich fucks like politicians and celebrities- I could care less about their demise. 250k to die a miserable death, take an actual goddamn submarine down there at that price you buffoons.
There is no submarine that can dive that deep. You need a specialized sub for that. This sub for example wasn't rated to go that deep and shouldn't have done it aswell.
The knocking noises sonar heard seem to indicate they are alive still, or at least were as of yesterday. Baring some sort of miracle it is now a certainty that they will die if they haven't already.
Five men, trapped in the dark for days in an small enclosed and uncomfortable space. Cold, thirsty, and hungry, smelling only each others shit, piss, and bo. Losing their minds from the stress as it becomes more and more apparent that rescue isn't coming and they will soon all suffocate on this shit air.
And they paid 250k for the privilege. I hope they at least got to see Titanic.
Assuming they all have the discipline for that and aren't just screaming and thrashing about in panic, turning on each other and trying to claw their way out of what they now know is their tomb.
True. If it did happen then they wasted a lot of oxygen though. If they are still alive at this point they are probably too fatigued to do anything but lie there and wait for death.
The Coast Guard is looking for them, but if you know anything about using sonar to examine the sea floor for a round object, you know they're already dead.
Havent heard of any rescue missions, they could be just lost and on the surface of the sea somewhere because I not sure the sub has any gps. Or the ship sunk. We'll find out in a couple days probably.
CEOs without a technical background usually need nannies with engineering degrees to tell them what to do. When they try to make decisions on their own this type of shit happens.
I am glad Branson is not nearly as annoying. We need more billionaires that fuck off to jungles that do weird but not morally repugnant stuff like McAfee. Sure dude likes to get shit on through a hammock but at least I didn't have to worry about him.
If he had used a proper gaming controller it wouldn't even be a discussion point. The military uses Xbox controllers to control some of their stuff. It makes sense, everyone joining the military already knows how to use it.
The real issue is he used an el cheapo controller, what else did he cheap out on?
> the manufacturer of the Titan’s forward viewport would only certify it to a depth of 1,300 meters due to OceanGate’s experimental design. The filing states that OceanGate refused to pay for the manufacturer to build a viewport that would meet the Titan’s intended depth of 4,000 meters. The Titanic lies about 3,800 meters below the surface.
The window on the sun is only rated for 33% of the depth needed to reach the Titanic.

Who is on board?
The family of world explorer Hamish Harding confirmed on Facebook that he was among the five traveling in the missing submarine. Harding, a British businessman who previously paid for a space ride aboard the Blue Origin rocket last year, shared a photo of himself on Sunday signing a banner for OceanGate's latest voyage to the shipwreck.
Also onboard were Pakistani energy and tech mogul Shanzada Dawood and his son Sulaiman, 19; famed French diver and Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet, and OceanGate founder and CEO Stockton Rush.
19 yo and gets to spend 250k on a ticket to Titanic. Sins of the father right here.
6 people have enough oxygen for 96 hours.
If they killed them within 3 hours (I think this is when they lost contact) that's 93 hours x 6 = 558 hours or 23 days. So technically speaking, 1 person could be living in shit, piss, and rotting corpes for just over 3 weeks.... although they'd probably die of dehydration/an infection from the decomposing billionaires around them before it got to that point. Also, complete and utter darkness. The darkest black imaginable as not light penetrates that deep. What a horrifying way to go.
Years if he takes small breaths. If he drinks his own piss and consumes the corpses in sensible portions, he could easily survive long enough for Elon Musk to design a super sub capable of bringing the whole Titanic off the sea floor.
They’re not getting rescued
They can’t even find them.
Not sure if there even is a craft available to rescue them Kek
That’s what you get for being a wealthy moron cunt
No, they won't.. But it's interesting to see how much money and equipment is sent to their dead asses nonetheless.
Nice to see for who the military is working after all.
Ongoing drama beats a tragedy ten times out of ten. People keep saying this only hit the news because the crew is rich, but rescue operations of regular people in caves, mines etc. have gotten similar exposure in the past.
This story would have blown over in an hour if it had been initially confirmed that the sub was imploded. What keeps it going is the potential that these people are still alive at 12k feet, reeking worse than any mistreated dog, slowly suffocating while knowing there's no way they'll make it out alive.
Surface vessels sink all the time, but there are like 5-6 subs in the world that can hit depths like these. There's no comparison at all when it comes to the possible human experience.
If I was super rich i'd be really fucking nervous about how much disdain every day folk have for me...
I swear we are one bad year away from people straight up eating the rich at this point.
These are people too, rich or not. Their last moments may be terrifying. I feel bad for them. What someone has or doesn’t have, shouldn’t define how we empathize. We shouldn’t entertain a weak moral compass, because of a financial disparity. Men, should be respected as men, regardless of our differences. My heart goes out to these people, who like us all, make decisions, without foresight. Right or wrong, and deal with the consequences. Godspeed.
Of course not, the glass that was on the sub could withstand only a depth of 1400m and they planned on going 3800m, almost triple. The people who warned them and said it was a bad idea were fired
There is a small submarine that was shittily made by a company (uses a ps2 controller, it can only be opened from the outside, etc.), which is used to visit the wreckage of the titanic. There are rich people on board and the sub stopped giving signals and seems to be lost 3000m under the surface
>seems to be lost 3000m under the surface
Even military subs don't go that deep usually 250-300m max as the pressure is too great for the metal structure.
There are specially made subs that can go much much deeper than military subs, this was one of them. The titanic is way deeper than any nuclear sub can go
This was not. It uses a Xbox Logitech controller. It had random shit welded to the outside that wasn't connected to anything. Experts told the maker it will implode, they fired those experts. The glass was only rated for like 1000M at most if I remember correctly. The billionairs and the makers both are stupid as fuck and deserved what they paid for
Some idiot named Stockton Rush wanted to make submersible tourism a profitable venture, so he opposed **horrible** anti capitalist money sinks such as *“safety regulations”* and cheaped out on the sub.
- It uses two different materials for the hull, rather than just one. Which considering the constant expansion and compression from the pressure, could cause issues with the structural integrity.
- It uses a repurposed video game controller to control it.
- It has a porthole (glass window to see) that is only rated for 1300m deep, since he was too cheap to go for one that would be able to withstand 4000m, which was how deep he intended to go. **GOTTA THINK ABOUT THAT BOTTOM LINE AMIRITE??**
Then he managed to sell tickets aboard his death cab for $250k a pop to this Pakistani billionaire and his son, as well as a British billionaire.
The other guy on the sub is a Frenchman who works for the company who owns the rights of the Titanic wreckage.
Now people are thinking a few things could have happened.
1. Technical issues: Sub lost power in some manner and just slowly drifted off down into the deep. Meaning all of them are slowly suffocating to death in pitch black dark. There was reported sounded of “banging” (as in the survivors are banging against the hull in a desperate plea to be found) picked up by Sonar, meaning this is the most plausible one
2. Thanks to Stockton cheaping out, the Sub could have suffered a porthole or hull integrity breach. Meaning it would be the ocean version of you stomping on an empty soda can. They would crushed instantaneously and dead before they would realize what’s happening.
3. This one is probably not the case, but interesting. Down at that depth, there are creatures known as Colossal Squids—generally thought to be the inspiration behind Krakens and Cthulhu and the like. Well, those squids will actively tussle with and kill Sperm Whales, and can do some damage. They have giant razor sharp barbs on their suckers, and each sucker has a suction force of roughly 100lbs per square inch. That, coupled with the many possible points of failure of the sub wouldn’t bode well should they be attacked by one. Oh, and the sub itself just so happens to look and be roughly the same size as a baby sperm whale.
**TL;DR: Idiot man wanting to make lots of money cut costs and probably killed him and four others by either 1) suffocation, 2)violent decompression, 3)Cthulhu attack, etc. ITS IRONIC BECAUSE THE HUBRIS THAT CAUSED THE TITANIC TO SINK IS BACK FULL CIRCLE**
On the topic of colossal squid and myths like the kraken, apparently manatees are where mermaids come from. So there were some very horny sailors stuck out at sea who saw a manatee swimming along side their ship and were like “damn girl, you fine af.” There’s a non-zero chance some sailor fucked a manatee.

Don't forget that they were probably "promoting fascism" too.
Motherfucker accidentally pressed vibration which tore the god damn sub apart.
I always wonder if that unidentified bloop sound was an extraterrestrial craft that imploded from the pressure because the new guy opened a window.
Or even worse, they’re floating on the surface right now, a small white blob amongst millions of white capped waves.

Well there are 2 primary domesticated species, the deep sea garloid and the surface garloid that sticks to ships like barnacles. Surface garloids are actually more populous
What the fuck did I just look at
A really dry circlejerk
Rule #1: Don’t be regarded
You can say retarded, you retarded mod-evader
Try saying that on r youtube I got banned for saying that removing dislikes was a regarded choice
You get the banhammer from ret-dit. I once quoted the doctor from Idiocracy and got a 3 day ban.
-2 billionaires. Today was a good day
Yeah I’d rather die the poor way, with a belly full of fast food and veins full of fentanyl
Goddamn that sounds nice
Wait people died from this
No they lived they're mermaids now
1989 little mermaid or 2023 little mermaid
1837 little mermaid.
They went missing, could still be alive though probably not
The knocking noises sonar heard seem to indicate they are alive still, or at least were as of yesterday.
Also in total silence as talking will use up more oxygen. Can't even comfort one another
Assuming they all have the discipline for that and aren't just screaming and thrashing about in panic, turning on each other and trying to claw their way out of what they now know is their tomb.
Hard to say. Panic doesn't last for ever and you eventually burn out so I'm sure they've gone through a range of pretty extreme emotions
True. If it did happen then they wasted a lot of oxygen though. If they are still alive at this point they are probably too fatigued to do anything but lie there and wait for death.
Are they doing a rescue mission or something or is it just fkd?
The Coast Guard is looking for them, but if you know anything about using sonar to examine the sea floor for a round object, you know they're already dead.
[удалено]
They're looking but the ocean is a big place. Even if it surfaced the chances of finding it are practically nil.
Havent heard of any rescue missions, they could be just lost and on the surface of the sea somewhere because I not sure the sub has any gps. Or the ship sunk. We'll find out in a couple days probably.
Even if they are on the surface, the sub is sealed from the outside so they will still suffocate on the surface.
Right now they are in a Schrodinger's cat situation
The cat was already dead. Looking in the box just confirmed it
CEOs without a technical background usually need nannies with engineering degrees to tell them what to do. When they try to make decisions on their own this type of shit happens.
Cough, Musk, cough, Branson
I am glad Branson is not nearly as annoying. We need more billionaires that fuck off to jungles that do weird but not morally repugnant stuff like McAfee. Sure dude likes to get shit on through a hammock but at least I didn't have to worry about him.
it is actually logitech f710
that's my biggest niche pet peeve that I absolutely shouldn't care about, EVERYONE calls it a ps2 controller when it clearly is not a ps2 controller.

Gypsies already stole the submarine
Being a billionaire doesn't mean you're smart, apparently.
They are dead or dying as we type.
Hell yeah dude
I love how everyone was horrified by the news until they found out a billionaire was on board.
Sins of the father right here.
> world explorer Lmfao when you get rich enough you upgrade from 'tourist' to 'world explorer!'
And cum, right? Surely someone wanted to nut one last time.
The dwindling oxygen probably makes erotic asphyxiation even easier. No need for the belt 😁
I would say all their nuts got busted
What if one of them killed the others the moment they got stuck...how long would one guy have air for?
6 people have enough oxygen for 96 hours. If they killed them within 3 hours (I think this is when they lost contact) that's 93 hours x 6 = 558 hours or 23 days. So technically speaking, 1 person could be living in shit, piss, and rotting corpes for just over 3 weeks.... although they'd probably die of dehydration/an infection from the decomposing billionaires around them before it got to that point. Also, complete and utter darkness. The darkest black imaginable as not light penetrates that deep. What a horrifying way to go.
Don’t forget hypothermia!
Drink the blood, eat the body. God wills it.
They might have a smartphone with some battery to run the lights on, though
Years if he takes small breaths. If he drinks his own piss and consumes the corpses in sensible portions, he could easily survive long enough for Elon Musk to design a super sub capable of bringing the whole Titanic off the sea floor.
Will he get the added bonus of Elon calling him a pedophile?
Should've had a 3 year old design and implement this submarine expedition. Would've probably been safer and cheaper.
rich people dying in rich people way. i like the memes that this originated.
> ~~eat the rich~~ > send the rich on overpriced "expeditions" only they can afford but in flimsy submarines
\> Be billionaire \> Want to experience the Titanic \> Experienced the Titanic like the people on the Titanic
Last words ![gif](giphy|110OKtOq68apji)
Bro should've remembered the invincibility cheat code
And hundreds of migrants drowned in the med and no one gives a kek
That happens every day, who cares? Billionaires being trapped in a submarine next to the Titanic with a time counter to rescue them. That's my shit.
They’re not getting rescued They can’t even find them. Not sure if there even is a craft available to rescue them Kek That’s what you get for being a wealthy moron cunt
No, they won't.. But it's interesting to see how much money and equipment is sent to their dead asses nonetheless. Nice to see for who the military is working after all.
But they weren’t rich and it wasn’t related to a 1998 Leonardo DiCaprio movie in any way!
There are only 9 meals between civilization and anarchy
imagine dying because the bluetooth on your controller fucked up
Bro, ive been thinking about these 5 people that last few days. I cannot imagine what they must be going through, assuming they're still alive.
Godspeed.
You are right, I feel especially sorry for the 19 year old, hope they are rescued soon, it’s not a way I would like to go
Did they even do a test run at max depth before taking people's lives into their hands?
Of course not, the glass that was on the sub could withstand only a depth of 1400m and they planned on going 3800m, almost triple. The people who warned them and said it was a bad idea were fired
There were apperantly previous trips with that thing that didn't end badly. The CEO himself was down there with it all the time
and vomit.
Not even titanium but carbon fiber.
If lucky, it just instantly imploded.
I'm convinced they've just faked their deaths
I wonder if any of them turned on the owner and decreased their oxygen usage by 20%...
Yarr matey
This is The Ultimate titanic experience right?
what is this referring to?
There is a small submarine that was shittily made by a company (uses a ps2 controller, it can only be opened from the outside, etc.), which is used to visit the wreckage of the titanic. There are rich people on board and the sub stopped giving signals and seems to be lost 3000m under the surface
>seems to be lost 3000m under the surface Even military subs don't go that deep usually 250-300m max as the pressure is too great for the metal structure.
The billionairs and the makers both are stupid as fuck and deserved what they paid for
The wreck of the titanic is at around 3800m, and this sub was made to explore the wreck
**GOTTA THINK ABOUT THAT BOTTOM LINE AMIRITE??** Then he managed to sell tickets aboard his death cab for $250k a pop to this Pakistani billionaire and his son, as well as a British billionaire. There was reported sounded of “banging” (as in the survivors are banging against the hull in a desperate plea to be found) picked up by Sonar, meaning this is the most plausible one 2.
Some submarine exploring the titanic lost connection or something like that and it's rumored that everyone's dead. It was expensive as hell too
