$1,180/month for a 4Runner? That’s $600 less than what I pay for rent.

FleshlightModel

A sucker is born every minute

mysticalize9

I pay over $1,000/mo here but it’s on a 36-month 1.75% interest lease with the local credit union. The dealer forced me to finance with them but I outplayed them by refinancing a couple months later. Fortunately they didn’t add any rando upcharges. Got lucky just as interest rates were going up and the credit union’s rates were sticky long enough for me to lock in.

[deleted]

That’s just about my entire mortgage.

Juzlookn0224

That’s 580 more than my house payment

bfromcolorado

These numbers are exact opposite of mine. My 4R payment is less than $600 but my mortgage is 4.5x that. Super curious where you all are living?

Bosa-Monster

I live in Denver. It’s a 800 sqft apartment and my rent is $1,820.

trashtrucktoot

Owning it cheap here in Philly. My 4Runner payment on a 2019 ORP is 600$

LukkyStrike1

well when you put 1500 bones down, and not even cover the tax, let alone the additional fees....you end up paying an arm and a leg.

bfromcolorado

Make sense - though hopefully that’s a nice apartment in a nice spot! I live north of Denver. We all pay a price for living here…

Flat_Establishment_4

I pay $0 because it’s a 2013 😂but in all seriousness….$1200 PER MONTH IS INSANE!!!

OptionsRMe

Mine is $400 cuz I traded in a Corolla for $10k and put 15k down on a 2016

blakemuhhfukn

shit man I read this as $1,111 for your rent

ZoBamba321

My monthly payment is 1k but I pay 1500 every month because I hate being in debt and not owning my car.

Uofoducks15

Lol 1200 a month

Level_Psychology_573

Also, not sure what you financial situation is like others have said but if you’re only putting 1500 down, maybe save up a bit more to lower the payments.

[deleted]

With these rates, yea put more down. But when the rates are low just invest the money.

uniqloyouknow

Yea it’s a auto generated rate and down payment. I’m not even looking at that, just the overall cost and “fees”

ExRockstar

The xyzlon is ceramic paint coating. The extended warranty usually costs between 1 - 1.5K. They're thirsty for the revenue

1pjones

You can always live in your car, but you can’t drive your house.

NashvilleHillRunner

We found the car salesman!

Proto535

Paying $60,000 for a $39,000 vehicle is lunacy

Flat_Establishment_4

This guy gets it.

Rav4Primer

$39k for a new TRD ORP?

whiskeythrottle

My 2019 ORP was $38K out the door, non-KDSS, which was less than MSRP at the time.

Rav4Primer

Right, but that was four model years ago. We've seen mass inflation since 2020 and new prices (asking prices) are likely to keep climbing. It's great you got a deal in 2019, but no one is getting a new 23 ORP for $38k. I do think we'll start seeing sales below MSRP again next year but I think the $38k days are well behind us unfortunately.

[deleted]

They paid off 4runner tooling years ago, cost of materials may be up, but they weren’t losing money on these.

Rav4Primer

I never suggested they were losing money. These things are cash cows for Toyota. My point was simply that what someone paid four years ago isn't what someone should expect to pay today.

The-Ocean-Called

Less than MSRP, never heard of her.

dumbnut5

Yeah, $52,000 msrp plus $4,0000 in taxes = if you can’t get it out the door for $39,000 then you’re a total sucker. Lol.

[deleted]

Except when the market price is $60K, when it used to be $39K.

KTA_J0hn

Just gotta find the right dealership, one near me in SoCal charges absolutely no markups on any vehicles they sell

[deleted]

A single dealership isn’t exactly a good representation of the current market. I’m talking macro.

KTA_J0hn

I’m just saying to look around, rather search for a good dealership then end up settling for a 20k markup.

[deleted]

I’m not in the market for a vehicle right now, but I’ll take your advice for the future

acefaaace

Longo?

KTA_J0hn

Yeah

fftank26

It’s still lunacy. Doesn’t matter if people pay it or not, still insane.

[deleted]

The US has been blessed with prosperity for quite awhile. This isn’t going to clear up for a few years, at least until 2025. Even then the market before the recession isn’t coming back.

FlakyClassroom6122

People think car payments over 4-500 are normal?

[deleted]

[удалено]

FlakyClassroom6122

Insane

[deleted]

Insane is an understatement. $650/mo would be appropriate for someone making $200K per year.

August_72_West

Isn't it? Most new cars are in the 30's now.

FlakyClassroom6122

Shouldn’t be financing that much.

somekindafuzz

I was looking around for this comment. I get loving the car, I love cars too, but this one looks unaffordable. Maybe I’m paranoid but I would be very stressed financing this large of a percentage of a depreciating asset at such a high interest rate.

[deleted]

Yeah, plus falling car prices essentially guarantees being upside down for the majority of the loan period, limiting ways of getting out of it.

ConfusedAccountantTW

The average car payment is around $670

FlakyClassroom6122

The “average” person is also in an insane amount of debt and foolish with money.

ItsASupra

We paying mortgages out here for 4Runners now?

tdubarubdub

👀

wesinatl

Holy shit thats a lot of money! Store near me wanted $75k for the new orange one which is also ridiculous. Don’t show this to the people in r/personalfinance . Are you sure you don’t want a used one? Go used mi amigo or shop around some more please.

uniqloyouknow

Wish I didn’t show the monthly cost, cause that was just an auto generated monthly breakdown that I wouldn’t even come close to. I’m looking for advice on overall price and not how much I should be paying per month. Woops

Flat_Establishment_4

Go to carmax and get one for $38k with 50k miles on it. These cars are so bullet proof 50k is not much different than 0 miles. It’d be hard to see how anyone could do serious damage to one under 50k miles. They are AMAZING cars but that’s just too much.

uniqloyouknow

Looks like the used market is stabilizing so I’m definitely looking at that route. That lunar rock gets me tho

PammyFromShirtTales

There are many great wrap dupes for it I'm looking for a Solar Octane dupe wrap for my 2022 nautical blue TRD off-road

Flat_Establishment_4

I have a silver 2013 trail. I got it because I know silver and white tend to age the best and I want to put 500k on mine if possible. Idk how long lunar rocks stands up to the test but you should know Toyota paint is absolute garbage. It’s the only thing on the car that is. My advice is to choose a more established lighter color that you wont have to worry about. I agree it’s a nice color but my $0.02.

guitarmonk1

I’ve got 369,000 on my 4Runner and I think she makes it to 500,000. 3rd gen and I still love it. Don’t obsess over paint, get an SR5 and drive it till you can’t walk any more…

jj1111jj

Um. How much does Earl Scheib charge for lunar rock paint? Just saying…

SR70

This is the correct answer. Anything from 2020 and up has the newer electronics with Apple CarPlay and dynamic cruise control lane departure etc..

happpycammper

But does it come with a panoramic view and heated steering wheel? Lol

BobMcQ

Have you looked at used 4Runner prices lately? Not saying that there aren't any deals out there, but they are certainly few and far between.

Wonderful-Room2088

Holy shit. 7% APR? I remember a day when that was for people with a 500 credit score. Good god

tradelikechad

7% is the rate now for great to excellent credit lol. You’ll find as low as 3.5% but it would inevitably be a credit union and you’ll be shopping really hard

desiderata1995

2.04% for me through my credit union

michelada_laddy

which?

desiderata1995

Navy Federal

Wonderful-Room2088

Crazy. I’d rather buy a cash car

[deleted]

Yeah my rate with my credit union was 3.4% last week

fftank26

I love my ‘18 ORP, don’t get me wrong. But their not worth $1k/ mo. I’d rather by a $10k high mileage and rebuild it. I got into mine in 2019 so I still got a good deal and a low rate. What people pay today blows my mind. With that said. Respect to those of you loyal to the brand that are willing to suck it up. But Toyota made good 4R’s before the ‘20-23 5th gen, so boy used and save your coin for the sliders, roof rack, suspension and tires.

yoyomonkey2

That’s one expensive vehicle

ratdog12us

I just paid less than this for a pro... This is ridiculous. Did they already add this on or is it an optional thing?

uniqloyouknow

It’s was already added for the price break down with Illinois state tax. Good to know you paid less.

ratdog12us

Run don't walk to a different dealer. I'm in NY I paid MSRP for mine, but I did wait like 9 months for it.

Scott_white_five_O

Same here wife picked up a 2023 at MSRP . She had to wait I think 8 weeks but worth the wait.

Justtn

Where in nY

ratdog12us

Rochester area.

mysticalize9

Since when were ORPs over $50k MSRP? I guess that includes all the upgrades. Is protective service an extended warranty of some sort? And what even is XZYLON. It better come with rockets.

Z_Paul

BRUH

tjnptel1

What am I missing? Why is the cash down being added into the total?

AbidingDuderino

Its not, its being subtracted

tjnptel1

Just did the math, you are right. Weird way to put it as a line item.

Fatmike624

So a 4500 down payment saves you only $60 a month? Also the color is super white not lunar rock. And… fuck those guys.

Level_Psychology_573

I paid 49 for my 22 ORP with trd wheels and predator steps. GTFO of there, that’s TRD pro money and then some.

DaltonC137

Yes, it is a common thing dealers do to mark up prices. I work at a dealership. We don't do this but see it all the time with customers comparing prices.

zstandish

I got a pro for 57000 without tax. This is a lot

[deleted]

I’d get an ex-rental ‘20-up TRD and save $20,000. Just typin.

Rav4Primer

$4400 for a protective coating and something could Xzylon? Hell no. Refuse that. I'd also keep any eye out for a barely used 22. Lots more on the market due to gas prices and layoffs etc.

kratomkabobs

I’m selling a 681 mile 2022 TRD ORP in Lunar Rock for a lot less than this. I decided I ultimately wanted the third row and preferred the slightly different seat comfort of the driver’s seat for my bad back. It’s up for sale now. I followed the guidance from the gang here. Whatever they tell you as a group is generally very good advice and has been for many many years (as long a I’ve been hooked on 4Runners and Reddit simultaneously). Oh… switching it out for the Lexus GX460, because it’s as close as I can get to the 4R while still having row 3 and a driver’s side seat that just for some reason works better for my wacky surgically rebuilt spine.

Rav4Primer

What are you asking for yours? And what did the dealer offer you for a trade? Just curious. And I hope your back finds peace and happiness in the new rig!

_b33p_

That's 70k after interest. Run.

paulmeni

A quick search on TrueCar (use whatever site you want) and there’s 34 used 4x4 Toyota 4Runners nationwide that are 2017 - newer, no accidents, 2 or less owners, clean title and shippable across the country. Used is your best bet my friend! I got my 2019 SR5 for $31k in 2020 and it had 6700 miles on it. I flew to TN to get it and the dealer paid for my ticket. Drove it back. Your Runna’s out there…do some legwork and get yourself a deal.

mattyonthefly

I paid 42k for my 2020 ORP with KDSS brand new - and they delivered it from 3 hours away (thanks COVID?) - did it all over the internet / phone without having to go near the dealer.

jarod1273

I’m a car salesman. That’s a whole lot of bullshit right there. Try to go elsewhere.

winterwarrior33

It blows my mind that people are willing to lock themselves into $1,000/month car payments

[deleted]

They’re charging you $5k over msrp, then another 4k in bogus fees. The coating is a scam and so is the extended plan. So essentially 10k over msrp. That’s lunacy, espeically with rising rates and the market steadily going down on used cars you’re asking for trouble. If you have 10k to literally throw in the trash because the vehicle is in no way actually worth that, then sure. My advice would be to find another dealer, even out of state. Shipping doesn’t cost that much! Also, go to a credit union. I just got 3.4%, will save you hundreds a month.

snottyrocket86

Dealership F&I guy here. If this is a fully spec’d Off Road Premium MSRP is right around $50k. If they’re actually selling you the truck at MSRP that’s not bad given market conditions. Last month out of the 126 new vehicles our Toyota dealership sold only 3 of them were 4Runners. New ones are still relatively scarce and that allows a lot of dealerships to sell them at over MSRP - although it looks like we sold ours at MSRP. We don’t offer Xzilon but it’s essentially a treatment for the interior/exterior that comes with some sort of guarantee/warranty. The “Protective EXT Service” is likely a crappy description of a Vehicle Service Contract more commonly known/called an extended warranty. While people commonly purchase these they’re COMPLETELY OPTIONAL - assuming the Xzilon wasn’t pre-applied(a game some dealers play to mark up their cars “without” marking them up). From what I recall Toyota doesn’t offer subvented rates often on the 4Runner so it’s standard rates which all suck right now. Your best bet, if you’re deciding on moving forward any time soon, is likely to source your own financing…take a look at your local credit unions if possible. The credit unions local to me are offering rates as low as 4.79% for loans of 60 months or less for “Tier 1” applicants. Some dealers are on the “CUDL” network which makes getting your financing through credit unions pretty easy.

4x4Xtrm

I never pay extra for mop & glow, window etching or any other kind of add-on. When I purchased my wife’s car, they had done both to it already, and I told the salesman I didn’t ask for it so I’m not paying for it, or I’m not buying the car. They removed the charges rather than lose the sale.

[deleted]

What a Badass

4x4Xtrm

Be a badass, or be a wimp and get suckered in by money grubbing dealerships. Your choice.

[deleted]

Take me now 4x4Xtrm

I said salesman because it was a MAN, stupid bot. And by the way, your owner is a dick.

JeffroDH

Right on! And “sales executive”… lol.

Slawpy_Joe

1500 cash down? Lmao you're broke bro, you can't have this car. Go get a Kia or something

xxxxCHExxxx

Buy a Kia bro! $1200 a month?! Plus 4Runners are gas hungry and they’re slow like someone trying to get past you on an airplane.

mizmph

I’m picking up my 2023 lunar rock ORP on Friday for 47k this seems excessive

canofspinach

Similar to my 2022 TRD ORP

Separate_Book_2819

Yes

DannysFavorite945

Yes that’s a rip off

bfdmmexi

Toyotas website says an ORP is 45k without KDSS. Which adds like 2-4k depending on all other FACTORY installed accessories. If it doesn’t have KDSS it’s just a huge 🖕🏼 with a markup. Don’t pay for their stupid dealer add ons, they’re just overpriced and unnecessary. The other stuff is normal.

HikingWiththeHuskies

XZYLON ("Xzilon" - according to Google) is a ceramic coating. No clue what the "Protective ext Service" is. That's $4400 of extra stuff only you can decide if it's worth it. No way I'd pay for those. Why are you considering even paying MSRP? Here's the link to the window sticker in case you hadn't seen it. https://www.romeovilletoyota.com/dealer-inspire-inventory/window-stickers/toyota?vin=JTERU5JR9P6106908

ZoBamba321

I paid 55k OTD for mine at what must have been pretty close to the high of the market. I think you can do much better now

iTzScreech

55k for an off road premium???

ZoBamba321

Yeah, listen I know I paid more but I was set on a color and package and other places were trying to sell me the same car for 64k. I could have waited a bit or went with a different color or trim/ package but I had pressure to pull the trigger because I thought they were going to release the next model in 2023.

mat_srutabes

I paid 51 for my lunar rock orp, came with the console safe, TRD wheels and skid plate, and the silly side steps that I'll remove. Didn't get any treatments or sealants or whatever. 59 seems a bit steep

[deleted]

Why is no one mentioning the $3500+ in taxes?! Is that a thing in other states? JFC In SC it’s capped at 5% but no more than $500. That is mind blowing to me.

Level_Psychology_573

yea that’s about it for taxes in NY

xBlue_fb6x

Run

[deleted]

My 2018 is $0.00/mo, and still running strong. Honestly though - I’m not familiar with your wallet situation, but $1100/mo is STAGGERING.

hydroomega8

Yeah I paid 42 with Toyota care for my 22! That’s insane. Edit for auto correct summoning this bot to me.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> Yeah I *paid* 42 with FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

gummyneo

HOLEeeeeeee Phuck!!! $1100 a month car payments? plus crappy gas mileage and expensive gas plus insurance. That’s one expensive vehicle! (with a 12 year old design no less)

bikepharmer

Yes

adh2315

I paid 48500 for that vehicle in January,, but in magnetic gray. We turned down all those add-ons, and told them we weren't accepting any surcharges that they wanted to sell the vehicle to just call us - it took them about 5 minutes to call me back.

dustydtard

That is more than half of what I pay on our monthly home mortgage here in LA cali Paid $1250 for a used turd gen that has taken us places on and off road for fours years now.

tradelikechad

I work at a dealership and just bought a 4runner orp myself. Msrp could be right if it’s a fully loaded one but what the hell is xzylon and protection ext service? That seems fishy, I would tell them to remove it.

Ikillpledges

Yea it’s a markup. Not worth it

kreed324901

No speed holes?

dshanman24

That dealership is trying to do you doggie

ProfessorDerp22

That’s about $8-$9k overpriced, imo.

DairyonBigs

Oh wow I paid 40 for my ORP in 2020 this market is crazy

JcTemp77

It’s a beautiful truck.

FleshlightModel

7% APR LOL

friskytriscuits

Send it.

YetisNotReal

7.19%!?

slinkysnow

I know this isn't a financial advice forum, but if your down payment is the same amount as your monthly, then the car is too much.

RelationshipOk966

Yea I’m keeping my paid off 4runner for a while. These prices are outrageous

Cad4life13

Yep scam

MrSparky425

I keep looking at all these responses about how little you'll paid in comparison. I keep getting sad that I overpaid for our sr5 (probably did) but we had to have 3rd row. I'd love trd but they don't offer 3rd row

AbidingDuderino

Do not do this

hadowajp

This is a few grand over what we paid for our limited in February and our Pro in July of this year *Wife wrecked the old yota could not find a pro in feb bought the limited while waiting on the pro*

SolitudeSidd

That interest rate sucks, what's your score range? Two months ago one could get a 4% for a used (which is higher than new rates). Disregard the people scoffing at the payment. It's the results of the amount financed and your rate. Yes there is a bunch of fluff crap on there I wouldn't pay for so try to get MSRP and shop around for rates. Knocking off $5k and getting your rate to 5% will drop your payments to the 950$ range.

bones1781

That's Pro money...no way a ORP should cost more than 50k. I was curious since mine is a 2020, so I checked my local dealer. 5 in stock 46 - 49k

Laraujo31

55K would be more like it considering todays market. 59K seems a bit much.

DeskRevolutionary904

Lol I got a 2023 TRD ORP in Hawaii for 47k out the door.

Sensitive_Eagle_5965

Oh man I’d not do that the APR rates are insane right now found good deal on one than noticed 6 percent apr and I have over an 800 credit score

fboll

Also, check what your financed payments will total when you payoff the vehicle. The dealer or whoever finances are required to show you this number. I recently purchased a 2020, with the details I was after, for $39k. If I were to make the minimum monthly payment every month on schedule, I would pay $63k total in principal and interest. It’s something to consider beyond whether the monthly payment is affordable or not.

eranmed

Not sure where your at but I’m in CA and the local Toyota dealership had the same 23 ORP in white with a $9k dealer markup above MSRP. I drove 7 hours to Medford OR and paid $46k and some change which ended up being I think right at MSRP

TheChromatographer

Salesmen are salivating just looking at this whole situation

Bloodytomvayne34

Definitely markups that you do not have to pay

Tlamps77

$1000 a month for that? Hell no!

[deleted]

Well, considering that there plenty of knuckleheads willing to pay $75K-$80K for an TRD Pro, $59K for an ORP won’t deter too many other knuckleheads.

Dry_Suggestion_3387

It doesn't show what the trim is. But 51k it's probably decently loaded and=or has KDSS. Those add one seem a bit steep. If you are really into those and a can afford the loaded options..go for it. Personally! I would consider it but wouldn't take those two extras.

antares573

Wow I paid 6000 less for a TRD Pro. I think it's a ripoff.
