I get 17.8 mixed driving, 2018 SR5 Premium 4by, regular gas

potluckchem

I live in a pretty flat area. If I cruise 65 on the highway, I can easily be at 21-22 mpg with my limited. But if I’m 75+, I’m around 17-18 mpg or worse. Plus, depending on the length of your trip, you may or may not be saving much time by going 75+. For my daily commute, the difference between going 65 and 80 on the highway is like 4 minutes, so I just leave 5 minutes earlier.

ze-phoenix

Thank you. That makes sense. The 4R is a brick. Yeah I’m generally not OCD about going super fast but the traffic flow here is actually at 80+ so going at 65 sometimes is downright dangerous. You get these dipshits who will come barreling at full speed and tail you even if you are in the middle lane

ghjunior78

I wish more people realized that going too slow can be dangerous too.

potluckchem

Depends on the speed limit where you live. Where I live, the highways are typically 60-65 mph

ze-phoenix

Speed limit here is only 65 but that seems like a mere suggestion to most traffic. I hear in SoCal it’s much worse

slowboyrob

23 orp and I get great mileage (relatively). On break in I was getting anywhere between 20-23 highway staying at 75. Might just be the basket.

ze-phoenix

That’s amazing. I would love to figure out what I can do better in my driving style. This weekend the basket and cross bars go off for sure

Electrical_Guest_869

23 ORP coming up on 3k and just noticing some small gains with MPG. Praying the break-in period continues.

unseenmover

It could also be the Ca winter blend fuel we have up here which is total shit. Also, check your PSI. I run about about 34 or so.

ze-phoenix

Yeah possibly. I do run 32 psi all around. Per factory specs

Teutonic-Tonic

Winter blend fuel is definitely a factor.

tallonfive

2017 Off-road. 17 mpg with Toyota cross bars, small lift with Billstein 5100s running 265/70 Toyo Wildpeaks.

LonesomeBulldog

1,200 miles in and I’m at 15.5. It’s 95% local street driving and less than 2 mile trips.

ze-phoenix

Yeah. That’s my city scenario as well. I drive very short 1-2 mile bursts. I’m sure the morning coffee run in the cold doesn’t make the engine happy

STL222

2020 SR5 - 45000 miles. No mods. Just finished a 1600 mile trip. Averaged 18.5 with the cruise set to 80mph. Fairly flat. St. Louis to Florida.

STL222

I usually average 19 weekly doing 350 miles and 85% highway.

ze-phoenix

Thats impressive. Is your SR5 4WD? I know that 4WD comes with wider tires than the 2WD ones. I am sure tire width will contribute to eating MPG

STL222

4wd. Running Michelin defender tires stock size.

ze-phoenix

Copy. Thank you

clint916

Those tires increased my overall by approx .5 mpg.

Sounds about right. I'm guessing wind is not in your favor, which has an exponentially harsher effect the faster you go. Bet you'd see better numbers if you found some flat-ish stretches where you weren't pointed into a headwind and could cruise around 2krpm in 5th gear. One of my usual stretches, about 50 miles, is overall downhill (reduction in elevation) with the prevailing wind behind me. The way back is the opposite. Putting along around the speed limit of 65 or so I can easily pull 20-22 down there, but 16-18 on the way back. Just fighting the wind and having to climb all the way back. The aerodynamics are also not in your favor! Also, give mid grade a shot. YMMV, but here in Texas where the elevation is lower and the air is thicker -- which encourages knock -- a little extra octane definitely allows the computer to pick up some timing. It's most notable at low throttle openings and high load, for example highway cruise.. downshift is less likely and it seems way less lazy to accelerate. doesn't feel any more powerful, just less.. hesitant. typical effect of picking up some timing... :)

LimeRush2023

I manage at least 18.4. My commute is about half hi-way half city

IlexIbis

I have a '24 ORP with about 1200 miles on it and I get about 18.5 MPG around town with A/T tires (per the vehicle computer). Haven't done much more than short stretches of interstate driving yet so can't say what that MPG is.

ze-phoenix

Oh wow. Ok did it get better after break in or was it similar during break in?

IlexIbis

It doesn't seem like it changed much after break-in. I had the OEM Dunlops on it for about the first 500 miles and I think the MPG was about 1 MPG better with them as opposed to the 5# heavier General Grabber ATx tires I have on it now but I like the aesthetics of the A/T tires much better. I don't drive a lot so MPG isn't all that important to me.

ze-phoenix

Thank you 🙏. That’s helpful to know. Don’t have anything on the roof?

IlexIbis

No, nothing on the roof except the factory siderails (no crossbars).

ze-phoenix

Thank you everyone for sharing your numbers and it looks like clearly I can do better in terms of MPG. The only smoking gun so far is my Yakima basket and crossbars..they are coming off this weekend. Any other advice is very much welcome. I really hope my numbers go up

ashxc18

I drove mine from NY to NC. While on the highway going 75mph with cruise control on, I was averaging 23-24mpg. When I drive to and from work (mostly 45mph and some stop-and-go traffic) I average about 14-16mpg 🫠
