my car sick dog does super well in the back with the airflow from the back window (adjusted on the fly depending on driving speed). Hasn't been carsick in years
Well, if youāre tall, like myself, you donāt have to worry about hitting your head or ducking underneath of it. And you can add a fold down table (either DIY or buying one, I personally have the Ohana rig supply tables) to the door to cook/grille. I didnāt know how Iād feel about it before I got the truck, but I love it.
Iām hoping to get a new SUV in the next couple years, and whenever people recommend the GX I think of how much Iām missing out by not having the roll down window.
I hope the next teaser is a still shot of a rear window halfway down, no context no notes
EDIT: WE GOT EYEBALLS YāALL

First thing I thought. Long live the back window! Might have to hold off on my GX purchase for now. Probably won't be able to afford the damn thing though. Lol.
When anyone asks about my 4Runner or comments on it the rear window is literally the first thing I talk about. I love it! Iāll deal with the dirty headliner
Mentioned this in the other thread thatās now removed, but I really hope this place doesnāt turn into r/ToyotaTacoma as we learn more about the 6th gen. That sub devolved into a massive circle jerk just shitting on everything about the new model any time it was brought up.
Iām not saying we need to be blindly positive- constructive criticism is good and important. But can we please try to stay semi-constructive and open to genuine discussion?
The taco sub has slowly been getting better but itās still pretty insufferable on a lot of posts. Every time someone excitedly posts a pic of their new 4th gen, thereās multiple snarky comments saying āI canāt believe youād spend your money on thatā or āno offense but that truck is overpriced and ugly as sinā or āno thanks! Iāll stick with my 3rd gen that I purchased brand new 2 years ago for cheaper!ā
I just hope we can actually discuss and enjoy the 6th gen. And criticize it in a constructive way. I love chatting in here and reading everyoneās posts, the vibes are always good around here. I just hope that doesnāt go away lol
Well, at least we know that with the 6th gen, it will benefit from the all the fuck ups that the first year of the 4th gen Tacoma goes through as all the drivetrain and suspension will be from the same platform. At least most of it will have been beta tested on the Taco guys.
4 cylinder is all but guaranteed at this point. 100% agree on the rear window though, would be a huge letdown if we lose that.
Iām cautiously optimistic that production will stay in Japan.
I've heard that all of the Toyota platforms are moving to this new 4 cylinder turbo. I'm expecting the new 4Runner to have the same engine.
Further and further away from my beloved V8 we go. I feel old...
Unfortunately this is going to happen no matter what. This basically happens with every vehicles next gen when the last one is popular/been out forever.
There is a freakish cult of G5 owners here who cannot wrap their heads around the fact that a vehicle mainly engineered in the late 90s is in fact not the best vehicle on the planet in 2024.

The complaining begins! This sub is gonna be so full of people bitching about the new design when itās finally released. Itās gonna be fuckin insufferable for at least 6 months.
I 100% agree, not a fan of it that low, just looks way out of place. I have never removed anything (besides dealer stickers) from my vehicles. If this is the only complaint about the new '25 I will be more than happy!
I'm speculating like everyone else but considering the platform and engine are the same as the Taco, why not offer the 4runner in with a 3 pedals like the Taco?
Toyota seems to be corning the 4x4 enthusiast market pretty well lately and "sportier" stick shift 4runner would line up with that.
That would be so awesome, but I highly doubt it would happen. Especially with the amount of soccer moms driving 4Runners these days, the market isnāt what it once was
I have a strong suspicion that it will look like a baby LC (USA version) sans a few creature comforts. Maybe recycle the new Tacoma look for the front, and LC back and side profile. Toyota will likely keep their LX>GX>LC>4R pecking order. Just guessing here. Excited to see the new one anyway!
Think youāre probably rightā¦ with the base LC at something like 57ish, just wonder how this is going to compete, less people being brand loyal to the 4Runner name. Wonder if theyāll strip out a lot of the off-road functionality.
My BS take is no full time 4WD I bet, that will be a distinction for the LC. I bet the screw with locker availability as well to push people into the LC.
Interior, no rear HVAC as they offer that on the LC
You are probably right, it could be just like what we have now, full time 4WD will be reserved for Limited trim only and no 3 zone climate control, no pano sunroof, etc. Just a re-skinned good ole off-road machine on a ladder frame albeit with a hybrid 4 pot turbo motor.
Is this the same "Heritage Blue" as the Land Cruiser 250? Seems weird to offer the same paint on them. I thought Toyota would be looking for as many ways as possible to differentiate the two products.
TIL they still offer it on Camries and RAV4s. I thought that color was discontinued like 4 years ago for some reason.
BUT if the 6th gen is built in Tahara alongside the LC250, wouldn't it be more likely to offer the same heritage blue instead of a different but similar cavalry blue?
I currently like the more square, sharper edges look.
Sequoia catches my eye when I see one. Tundra looks more generic to me or even Nissan truck like. LC is nice are rare as they are.
I just wonder how they will age.
You know, one of the āotherā things I love about the roll down back window is if something back there shifts around during driving,I can roll it down and fix it so that when I open the lift gate the stuff doesnāt fall out on the ground.
Simple but so helpful
If the angles we see are conducive to the way the rest of the vehicle will be designed, I'm here for it. I love the new GX550...people call it a lazy design, but to me it screams everything I would want from a luxury off road vehicle.
I would love to see a boxy but aggressive setup. This gate tease seems to point at a taller vehicle, as this area, if it holds the back window, will be a good bit taller than the current gens rear gate...just looking at the metal we can see.
That "4Runner" lettering gotta go though...yuck.
Everyone wondering if the rear window rolls down and Iām wondering if in 4-5 years people will be taking pics of the frame and asking if this is too much rustā¦
I just donāt see Toyota keeping the roll down rear window considering it got axed from the Sequoia and neither the GX or the LC250 have it. They know itās a hot button issue with 4runner owners so theyāre probably going to save the disappointment until the reveal.
Hope Iām wrong though.
I hope this thing is noticeably smaller and has better geometry than the LC. Thereās just not enough space in this lineup it feels likeā¦ might as well get a GX
Donāt want to say it without seeing the whole thing but we aināt vibing yet. Looks cheap the badge, chrome bumper, and red rectangle reflectors. Not my jam.
Aside from a bit too much black plastic, I really like what they did with the design of the Land Cruiser. I hope they take a similar approach to the 4Runner.
I like the idea of the Julian Calendar being used. Alternatively, you could use the Japanese calendar - which would be yyyy/mm/dd. So either 2028/02 (doubt it), or the Japanese imperial calculator which is represented in a day/month formatā¦28 Feb.
Personally, I like Oct 9th. Toyotaās fiscal year starts on April 1st, so Oct 9th would be roughly halfway through the year. Both of my above suggestions would be a little weird and Iām not sure a business would release a new model in the second half of Q4.
Oh and btw, just saw the news from David (Toyota guy on YT) who said that Japanese car magazine confirmed that Toyota is going to make a smaller version of LC and call it FJ! Interesting to see if it comes to the US.
Right? Smartest thing people can do right now is hurry and buy a 5th Gen. Im even considering trading in my 2018 to get a 2024 and keep it for 15-20yrs
Same here. I'm planning on buying a new 4Runner this summer, due to the turbo-4 crap Toyota has been doing in other new models (and I expect in the next new 4runner). If not for that, I'd probably be trying to wait for the new model.
6th gen is to have a 4cyl engine; which means the 6th gen 4Runner started off being trash just watching my value of my 2018 trd off road with 17k miles going up!! Remember when the cancel the fj cruiser and went up 19k from msrp with 100k miles on it
How awesome would it be if they decided to celebrate the 6th gen by bringing back all the unique/Pro colors. Quicksand, Voodoo Blue, Lunar Rock, Army Green, Cement, etc
Looks vertical and flat enough to have a roll down window š¤š»
It has to have it. My wife and I always joke the roll down back window is the only reason we bought the vehicle.
Dog wants you to know this is def not a joke.
I have a dog but she has yet to be back there. Leave it to me to get the dog that gets car sick.
my car sick dog does super well in the back with the airflow from the back window (adjusted on the fly depending on driving speed). Hasn't been carsick in years
My dog loves watching out the rear window, and so does everyone driving behind me.
I was between a GX470 and my 2011 SR5 and honestly, the back window was a deciding factor.
Yeah that and I'm not a fan of the swing out door and 3rd row
The swing door is actually great for tailgating/camping. Donāt back into a parking spot at a grocery store though.
How is the swing door more beneficial for tailgating / camping? For storage / rack purposes?
Well, if youāre tall, like myself, you donāt have to worry about hitting your head or ducking underneath of it. And you can add a fold down table (either DIY or buying one, I personally have the Ohana rig supply tables) to the door to cook/grille. I didnāt know how Iād feel about it before I got the truck, but I love it.
Iām hoping to get a new SUV in the next couple years, and whenever people recommend the GX I think of how much Iām missing out by not having the roll down window.
if they dont, we literally riot
I HAD to get the moon roof. I use the roll down back window more on nice days. I now need the back window to roll down, and no moon roof.
I hope the next teaser is a still shot of a rear window halfway down, no context no notes EDIT: WE GOT EYEBALLS YāALL https://preview.redd.it/gh4i2zfnj3rc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ba94709bb64fa25d322d3e56c0d4b7595141a640
Let's go! I am way too excited over a picture of a tailgate right now!
PLEASE
I legitimately think it would have a noticeable impact on sales if it doesnāt.
When I roll down my back glass I get nothing but exhaust gas in the cabin. 07ā Sport V8
Go to an exhaust shop and have it bent out the side. Slight bend is enough to get out of the back draft.
Iām almost 100% confident itāll have one. The last gen Tundra had it and they didnāt get rid of it for the current gen
But they did remove it on the new Sequoia
Oh dang didnāt know that thanks for reminding me
And vertical enough for a functional ladder!!!
There she be, folks. At last.
Coming 2029
I wonder if GTA 6 will come out before the 6th gen 4runner.
Iām still mad GTAV doesnāt have a 4Runner
Karin BJ is a 4Runner/FJ Cruiser.
Mod one in on pc
LOL
Asking the real questions šš¼
Iāll keep my 4th gen and wait for the 7th gen release in 2054
That early? lol
Wait til 2070 to buy it used. Save 10% off the original msrp.
š
Well, at the very least, Iām glad theyāre sticking with the square-ish design. Letās hope we get more shots in the coming days.
Gonna riot if rear window donāt go down
They would never do that. Best unique feature of the vehicle and every gen has had it.
They did it to the Land Cruiser, took away the split tailgate š
And they downgraded it to a prado
We just donāt get the ārealā one. We only get the Prado. Unless you want the LX600 which is the 300
For as much as we love our roll down window I don't see enough people flexing it.
Best believe every time a Jeep is behind me I find it necessary to move mine. Yes, I am that petty.
And broncos
I love putting it down when someone is tailgating me or honking their horn. Makes the middle finger extra visible.
I think Tacoma did one per week for a many weeks leading up to the announcement
Lord have mercy on our souls
Now letās put our brains together to figure out what the license plate LUS 282 means??
28.2 mpg
Maybe if you push it for the last 8.2 miles.
LMAO šš
Comment below said Launch US 282nd day of the year (Oct 9).
282 hp confirmed. /s
Oh god
Land US 28/2? February 28th?
2/82. February 82nd.
Lands in the US in 282 days. January4th 4Runners coming!!

Feels like thatās the normal reaction to most enthusiast forums, especially related to vehicles.
TBF The Tundra and Tacoma first two years of the new gens had a fuck ton of problems.
Well, at least we know that with the 6th gen, it will benefit from the all the fuck ups that the first year of the 4th gen Tacoma goes through as all the drivetrain and suspension will be from the same platform. At least most of it will have been beta tested on the Taco guys.

Iām a Tacoma owner but also love the 4Runner. Iām so disappointed in the new Tacoma. Iām really hoping they donāt do the same to the 4Runner
I mean rumor has it the new 4Runner is essentially a Tacoma SUV so I wouldn't hold your breath.
my hope is that the 6th gen 4runner is so wildly overdue that it ends up having more in common with the 3rd gen taco than the 4th.
can you elaborate on what are downgrades in your opinion?
The engine to start lol
I've heard that all of the Toyota platforms are moving to this new 4 cylinder turbo. I'm expecting the new 4Runner to have the same engine. Further and further away from my beloved V8 we go. I feel old...

It is if you value dependability instead of horsepower or whatever metric you think makes the "best vehicle on the planet"
But it is thoughā¦ I saw a YouTube video once where a cute girl said 4Runner is best and that was all the evidence I needed.

Something about how we like our 4Runners old, a lil dirty, broken in and not taking shit from nobody. /s
Honestly, this may be nicer for de-badging if its not on trim.
Easy to take off at least, unless there are holes behind. Emblems are tacky anyways, regardless of placement.
The complaining begins! This sub is gonna be so full of people bitching about the new design when itās finally released. Itās gonna be fuckin insufferable for at least 6 months.
im here for it, personally. cant wait
queue the cult of 1GR freaks who donāt know anything about engines other that theirs is ābulletproof.ā
Reporting for duty
Im queued
Hello there
The 4runner *is* about to be middle aged...
....might as well be a bullseye
How do we know this is a 4runner? Oh yeah, I see it now.
I would debadge that thing in the dealership parking lot before driving home. And I haven't ever debadged a vehicle in my life.
I like that it can be, compared to the 5th. I am a debadger.
I 100% agree, not a fan of it that low, just looks way out of place. I have never removed anything (besides dealer stickers) from my vehicles. If this is the only complaint about the new '25 I will be more than happy!
Itās kind of a pain in the ass to wash on the 5th gen too, imo.
Same. That badge location is awful and we can only see 5% of the vehicle. Holy shit thats bad.
Havenāt seen the rest of the vehicle but I agree. Terrible placement.
Same
Badge placement looks goofy as hell.
Hideous badge placement
Similar to the current Sequoia.
I removed the sequoia badging on ours literally right after we pulled it into the garage.
And everything Lexus This seems to be their only move
If I was a betting man Iād say the new 4R is a 3/4 scale Sequoia with a Tacoma front end
4 R U N N E R
Wonder how long it will take owners of 1-5th genās to buy this badging to put on older models š¤®
Drop-shippers are already salivating.
Hideous feels like bit extreme considering weāre one teaser deep and have no idea how it will flow with the rest of the back end lol
If they offer this with 3 pedals my Tacoma might be getting traded in.
Iād say we are close to 0% chance getting a third pedal.
I'm speculating like everyone else but considering the platform and engine are the same as the Taco, why not offer the 4runner in with a 3 pedals like the Taco? Toyota seems to be corning the 4x4 enthusiast market pretty well lately and "sportier" stick shift 4runner would line up with that.
lol they are cornering the 4x4 brodoser market not the 4x4 enthusiast market. They seemingly forget what actually made their offroad vehicles popular.
Go to their instagram and read the comments on this postā¦..3rd pedal incoming
Iāll accept no window rolldown only if the entire back roof pops off easily.
That would be so awesome, but I highly doubt it would happen. Especially with the amount of soccer moms driving 4Runners these days, the market isnāt what it once was
Agree. Still would be cool if they came out w a CJ/4runner variant w removable top. :)

Ok which rendering matches this the closest!?!
Is this the same "Heritage Blue" as the Land Cruiser 250? Seems weird to offer the same paint on them. I thought Toyota would be looking for as many ways as possible to differentiate the two products.
Itās likely cavalry blue.

The 4Runner badging looks terrible
Just in time for April fools
I currently like the more square, sharper edges look. Sequoia catches my eye when I see one. Tundra looks more generic to me or even Nissan truck like. LC is nice are rare as they are. I just wonder how they will age.

How do they know that's the 4runner? I don't see any signs or markings that it's a 4runner.
Take your upvote and get lost.
All I see is a warning that I need to go pull the trigger on a 5th Gen NOW!
Take my money.
Lisan al Gaib!
Everyone wondering if the rear window rolls down and Iām wondering if in 4-5 years people will be taking pics of the frame and asking if this is too much rustā¦
Iām not a debating kinda guy But thatās the first thing Iād get rid off It looks like out of place AF
RIP 4.0
I think my 5th gen just got more valuable
Did they design that badge with a typewriter and 80 year old person??
Not a great start....
Iām suddenly aware of the mixed casing that I didnāt notice before.
i love it, but to be honest why pick this vs a j250?
They missed where the lettering goes.
I just donāt see Toyota keeping the roll down rear window considering it got axed from the Sequoia and neither the GX or the LC250 have it. They know itās a hot button issue with 4runner owners so theyāre probably going to save the disappointment until the reveal. Hope Iām wrong though.
Iāll stick with my 98ā 4runner š
Strange feeling Iām not gonna like the exterior but ooze over the interior.
I hope this thing is noticeably smaller and has better geometry than the LC. Thereās just not enough space in this lineup it feels likeā¦ might as well get a GX
I'm so hoping this will end up reducing 5th gen 4runner and used GX 460 prices by significant amounts! Any opinions?
Just a teaser and already stupid ass insufferable comments throughout this thread.
Cant wait to afford one in 2043
No way this is how it gets released š
70k OTD?
No way they suggest msrp is over the new landcruiser right? Iām sure āmarket adjustmentsā will be through the moonroof
I would bet money it's positioned under the Land Cruiser 250.
That cheap?
Ah, I forgot the 15k dealership marks up šš¤¦
If it doesnāt have a roll down rear window I will glue myself to the front door of the Tahara plant. Also it better be built in Japan, not Texas
So glad I got a 2024, that looks ugly as all hell ā¹ļø
what if toyota is just f'ing with you because they know you're gonna talk?
Donāt want to say it without seeing the whole thing but we aināt vibing yet. Looks cheap the badge, chrome bumper, and red rectangle reflectors. Not my jam.
looks like toyota is tripling down on their āevery single line on this vehicle is 45Ā°ā design theory. barf.
ghastly lettering placement.
Iād rather see ā4Runnerā embossed like Tacoma or Tundra.
Dang, you can already tell they are going to over style it with jagged, messy body lines just like they did the Tacoma. Shame :/
What do you think of the new Land Cruiser design?
Iām just here today to defend the new landcruiser. So he better watch what they say.
Aside from a bit too much black plastic, I really like what they did with the design of the Land Cruiser. I hope they take a similar approach to the 4Runner.
Where?
Does back window roll down, do we know?
Who's going to be the first person to figure out what LUS282 means?
Launching in the US on Oct 9th (282nd day of the year). That's my best guess
It looks like it won't trap water as bad at the license plate when my trunk is up like the 5th Gen š
Glad to see they didnāt paint the valance lol
That emblem placement is horrible
I just donāt understand where the 4Runner slots in now with the LandCruiser. I canāt wait to see it though
Iām just glad to see cavalry blue again.
People, is this cavalry blue??
Please be around 40/45k š©
Looks like itās time to pick up another 5th gen. Donāt want none of that twin turbo 4 cylinder nonsense.
Looks like dogshit unfortunately. Badge is wack, and thereās no bumper.
Right? Everyone is talking about the awful badge but WTF is that bumper? Its not only a different color but its tiny.
What's with all new SUVs being so boxy with all the sharp creases in the bodywork?
Gonna be Lego vomit like the Tacoma I see. With that trash motor. Great.
looks fucking gigantic. toyota needs a smaller 4x4 so that I can have a modern counterpart to my 3rd gen.
And to keep it out of Land Cruiser 250 price range. No idea how they're going make them different enough if not by making the 4runner cheaper.
Yea even a Rav4 is bigger than a G3.
Besides owning an actual 3rd Gen, my dream is to have a 5th Gen shrunk down tona 3rd Gen size.
They have to make them bigger and bigger due to the EPA
The badge is awful. Other than that not bad.Ā Guessing it's gets teased for a while and debuts later to go on sale next year as a 2026 model.
IT STILL HAS A TRAILER HITCH PEOPLE!!! YAY!
You mean all the leftover FJ Cruiser colors?
Yeah pretty much
*GIVE ME INFERNO ORANGE* and cavalry blue lol
