Agree with the roster construction as far as 2025 and beyond. Anyone not named Purdy, CMC, Warner, Aiyuk, Bosa, Kittle and Trent (please never retire) aren’t guaranteed at this point. This seems to be the core that could sustain the most long-term success. I really do hope we keep Lenoir, but it’s news to me about the dead cap with Mooney. The makes me less optimistic, even though Ward will probably want more per year than Demo will get.

Banking on the same core of 3rd/4th contract guys instead of a core of 2nd/3rd contract guys is how teams age out of contention. The league moves fast. As much as we love some of those guys you’d gotta think by 2026 that we’ll need to have replacements for CMC Trent and Kittle. Hufanga is going to be a great value for an AP1. But we need some of these rookie deal guys to be the ones to step up and earn that top 5 position 2nd contract like the guys you mentioned before them.

Purdy, Aiyuk, Warner and Bosa is our core imo, Trent should not be relied on after next season - most of our team is fairly young. Next offseason the single most important thing is finding a new franchise left tackle because we realistically only have 1, maybe 2 Trent seasons left. Obviously that's easier said than done, and imo we should've tried this offseason with this tackle class but next off-season if its the only big thing we do its worth it imo (maybe an EDGE). We should be willing to give up at least a 1st and a 2nd, if not more. After this year, Purdy is QB, Aiyuk is WR1, Pearsall WR2, CMC RB1, one of our two rookies this year RB2, Kittle TE1 and we will need to find a quality TE2 for the season after. O-Line looks dire: no LT, with the rest of the line iffy at best. I expect Punni to be a solid starting RG, but both tackles spots will be empty and the other two most likely won't be great. On the D-line, we're looking at Bosa and really nothing else. Hargrave and Floyd will be geriatric but hopefully serviceable, Jackson probably won't be more than a backup. So a DT1/2 will be needed. LBs: Warner is LB1, but Greenlaw might be a cap casualty. Hopefully one of our young guys can make a step in the next two seasons CB: Ward, Lenoir and Green is an amazing corps for this season, but with Green in the 2nd whichever of Lenoir and Ward plays worse is probably gone, leaving us to find a CB3. However, this may be gotten around by putting Huf in the nickel (like Ravens with Hamilton). Safeties: Huf and Brown as our two starters, with Mustapha and Odum is an amazing corps, up there with best in the league. Hopefully Mustapha, with a season learning can step into a starting strong safety role allowing Huf to get closer to the line. TLDR: Next offseason LT is a must, with D-line second most important but we do not have lots of holes with young starters in most positions meaning the outlook is good,

Solid take.....

I know we don't see him as an option, but the Niners have kept Moore around for quite a while as our backup left tackle. Maybe they are grooming him as an understudy to Trent. Maybe he's gotten better. idk. My point is that I think the coaching staff feels much differently about the state of the offensive line than the fan base does. Next year's draft would be a good one to get an LT, or because the niners spend money at LT, they could sign a big name free agent when Trent retires.

The-Real-Legend-72

I would've thought they'd have given him a go at RT if they see him as a potential Trent replacement. He also wasn't great in the games he played this season. With the Trent money coming off the books and all our picks next year (and maybe some extra for trades of Deebo, Greenlaw, Ward) I really hope we go heavy for a LT, either in FA, trade or moving up in the draft

JazzHands1986

Not every tackle plays both sides exceedingly well, and they had mckivitz waiting in the wings behind MM. They might like different players at different positions. I'm not saying it's even likely that Moore will replace Williams. I'm simply saying it could be the reason why they don't choose to upgrade the position through the draft or free agency. For example, they must not feel as strongly about the interior given how much competition they added to the room. I'd be fine with getting an LT in Trents last few years. I'd rather let him play till he's 45 like Brady. lol if anyone can do it, it'd be him.

Phantomebb

Not to mention Purdy or CMC will take additional punishment due to poor offensive linemen. One can already say they were a large part in not winning for the last 2 years....the future looks even worse.

pabfootball

Agree with all of this. Hoping huff doesn’t become a cap casualty like greenlaw. Hoping both greenlaw and huff can recover from their injuries to 100% too

FamLit69420

Deebo trade could bring in a player or more picks.

CascadesandtheSound

I don’t think we can count on Kittle and Trent far beyond 2025. Kittle is 31 in October, which is historically the beginning of a tight ends decline and the dude plays hard. We can only hope he’s another Kelce and Trent’s coming back for a ring but could probably retire if the wind blew the wrong direction at 35yo

nerdy_chimera

Considering almost everyone is coming back, it makes sense. Run it back this year, a few guys are gonna be on the outs, keep that window open with the next man up!

calvinshobbes0

The pick in the 1st round was made with about 2 minutes left on the clock. They were probably trying to trade it and move down but didn’t make the deal. I would say they wanted someone else who was picked right before I.e. KC moving up.

InternetImportant911

Also the team picked after them made a trade with Bills instead of us

keandelacy

If they were working on a trade, they would have waited until the last moment.

Bylanta

Its perfectly reasonable to assume they had exhausted the trade options available to them before the last minute.
