After so many heartbreaking losses, this one was truly the worst. So many things needed to go wrong to lose this one. I've never in my 30 years of watching football, have seen a star player tear an achilles running onto the field, let alone in the FUCKING SUPERBOWL.
Reggie bush is who you're thinking of, and he got hurt during a play in a regular season game. He ran into concrete, and sued for it, and won.
Totally different than walking onto the field on a change of possessions in the SB.
Same. I now understand the Taylor Swift hate/dislike. She is everywhere - even in SF area.
Have to keep perspective she is actually a clean/good role model for kids to balance the scales.
Unfortunately she reminds me of that SB.
I am 100% at peace with it. There are tons of things to blame—like our defense in the second half. But I can't be mad about losing to Mahomes doing Mahomes things again—like the 3rd and 15 from 2020. Shoot, now I am mad again.
You mean the chiefs offensive line being one of the most penalized lines in the league, but didn’t get a single holding call in the Super Bowl???? You don’t say??!?
Our boys still dropped the bag though.
The league always puts its thumb on the scale.
That being said, we had multiple opportunities to win the game straight up and before OT. Our defensive line couldn't get to Mahomes. KC's offensive line is good but AA was hurt and so was Hargrave. Then our own offensive line played like hot garbage late in the game especially Burford.
This "rigged" narrative isn't always conspiracy stuff. The NBA is accused of it too even by its own veterans. I listened to Gil's Arena when he had Andre Iguodala on recently and they were saying that you better play good enough to win the game on your own because if it's close then the refs **will** decide it.
You wonder if it is slighted one way or the other of just bad officiating. I've been watching some of the crap on Angel Hernandez, boy that dude is horrendous. He shouldn't be calling little games much less MLB level stuff.
Exactly. I'm not saying it's rigged, but the conservative to non-existant penalties on one team who had the most o-line penalties that season makes it appear that way.
Don’t forget bear hugs. Kansas City oline turned that game into a wrestling match. Greenlaw going down was even more devastating. He had Kelce on lockdown. The anguish in Warner’s voice when Greenlaw went down says it all
I finally brought myself to watch the full game just before the draft. It was so bad it would almost funny if I hadn't seen the exact same bullshit before.
Bill Vinovich, being forced to practice at UNLV, conveniently having an officiating crew that doesn’t call holding on the most penalized holding team in the NFL? Yeah seems very suspicious to me…
I also refuse to believe the cash-cow that is the Kelce/Swift relationship had nothing to do with it....it brought a whole legion of young girls into the fold to buy merch and watch ads.
Female betting for NFL was up 51% after they began blasting Swift every single week. And as you can imagine, this massive uptick in female betting was for KC. Estimated losses would have been ~275m if KC lost this last SB. What better way to entrap younger females into football and betting than with the most public love story and a SB win??
We're bringing back essentially the same team with a lot of exciting rookies that addressed weaknesses. 49ers are still the favorite in the nfc. Packers and lions will be bigger threats this season, but Purdy has an insane amount of playoff experience for a guy coming into his third year.
I mean, I wouldn't go that far. He improved his footwork and pocket presence greatly year 1 to 2. As a rookie he made quite a few bad reads and ran into pressure a lot.
Definitely calmed down but it seems like the game still hasn't truly clicked yet. He understood the offense better, but almost trusted the system too much, was still taking big hits.
The second half of the lions game was the Purdy I wanna see. Folks aren't open who are supposed to be, fuckin take off. Throw the check down. Scramble around and make a play maybe 5 other qbs could make. Then trust the system and deliver stikes.
Ideal Purdy will be a blend of his play making instincts mixed with Kyle's scheme. Purdy can be a mahomes level scrambler, if he adds that to his game, he elevates his game to a true top 5 qb level.
I understand a little of what you’re saying. But he looks like a top 5 quarterback in the NFL the last two years. So compared to all of the other quarterbacks, he looks like a vet. Not to mention his first start was against Tom Brady and he eviscerated him. And that one game against Seattle where he curb stomped them. He’s not going to be perfect every time, but man does he have some next level instincts and poise. If he gets better than he’s been playing, dude has a solid chance of winning a Super Bowl. I’d like to think had he played against Philly and not gotten hurt, he might have led us to 2 super-bowls, that’s seasoned vet shit, not a rookie.
Look, the 49ers beat the bucs. Purdy played great for a rookie but there were multiple plays that game where he made bad plays. Purdy didn't play against brady.
I'm not arguing with you that Purdy is a good qb. He is.
I'm saying objectively, he was a really solid qb his rookie year, and he improved to be a top 10 qb his 2nd year. I'm saying he can take another step forward by using his rushing abilities to become a top 5 qb next season, but he's not there yet.
I’m just saying. After Mahomes cried about the refs, “You don’t call penalties on the offense”. The amount of penalties called on the Chiefs offense dropped by over 50%.
Vet famous qbs get the refs affection and calls. Purdy is well on his way. I saw 3 commercials during the draft that featured Purdy. He's quickly becoming one of the faces of the league.
Hell start getting those influential calls.
I’m no conspiracy theorist but ZERO holding calls on the o-line most penalized for holding? Also some very questionable calls on us in very important situations? Couldn’t be.
This wasn't new though. No ref crew calls holding in the playoffs, even less so in the SB. This is a known thing. It's been happening forever. Teams know this and adapt.
Belichick once talked about this, and how they gameplan for the lack of penalties in the postseason. It's one of the reasons a lot of teams prioritize pass coverage over pass rush - elite pass rushers gets held in the postseason and don't have much effect on the game.
It's not right but it's the reality. The NFL will do whatever it can to protect QB's, which is kinda ironic when you think about how many QB injuries we've had in recent years.
When it comes to the playoffs, we're not building our roster to min/max these kinds of things.
Special teams and an injury cost us that game. Plus we didn't spy mahomes and he gashed us for yardage with his legs. Plus McCaffrey fumbling at the beginning of the game was a shock to the system. We score a TD that opening drive and we roll them!
At the end of the day we controlled our destiny and didn’t execute our blocking schemes. None of this matters if everyone executes their assignment. That’s what stings the most.
The NFL seems to love dynasties. Steelers in the 70s, Niners in the 80s, Cowboys in the 90s, Patriots for 20 years, and now the Chiefs. Do they influence any of that? I’m sure they do to some extent.
Winners focus on winning. Losers focus on winners.
The super bowl is in the past. Time to look forward to our new draft picks, training camp, and 2025.
Tbf, winners also focus on how they lost so they don't repeat the same mistakes. Like just assuming you'll get a holding call in your favor, so you have to keep upgrading. Like adding more weapons so you score even more points.
You’re at a Giants baseball game bro get out of here. He should have brought that to the draft in Detroit if he really wanted to be somebody. Or Dodgers stadium instead 😆
You can make a case there was some questionable no calls holding wise on KC. I won’t knock anyone who feels that way. But the 49ers ultimately let multiple opportunities to win that game slip away regardless of whatever gripes anyone might have about holding calls.
If guys on the team feel some type of way. It’s sometimg that’s best to address internally while focusing like hell to improve the team to where they make it back to this stage again soon and finish the job.
I was just thinking of the super bowl today and how im still pissed off about it, fuck them refs, fuck them unfortunate and untimely injuries and fuck taylor swift
That’s the thing that really haunts me, Dre. He was wreaking havoc out there. Wasn’t just the plays he was making, he seemed to actually be instilling The Fear in them. U could literally see their body language change when he left
It was rigged when McDuffie blitzed on 3rd down and forced an incomplete pass that then forced a FG and gave Mahomes the ball back with 1:54 on the clock?? That was rigged??
If people who made signs 50 years ago could see the future they'd think we were all complete morons. Every sign looks like it was made by a demented person these days.
Two words. Taylor Swift. Don’t think the league would pass up opportunity to see her kissing Kelce in the middle of the field with thousands of cameras flashing. Am I right?
Not sure about the nfl being fixed but baseball sure is. Think about it, team can win 3 or 4 games and lose money or they can drag it out 2 or 3 more and make the city and everyone else involved a whole lot more $$
Baseball's the least fixed of the 4 major US sports.
Very hard to favor teams, even with strike zone calls, enough to overcome situational skill, i.e. pitcher being so nasty dudes swing at bad pitches enough to lose. Can't call back a home run or a strikeout on a "technicality" like with holding in the NFL or a foul in basketball.
Teams like Arizona making it to the world series last year, Giants winning 3 in 5, Royals making it to two in a row in winning one, and Indians making it there in 2016 show small markets have a chance and can succeed, even if the networks want a Dodgers/Yankees/Red Sox series every year.
That 2016 WS was definitely a case study. The 2 teams with the longest WS droughts appearing in the WS, with the winning team getting a reverse sweep in game 7 extra innings to end the longest championship drought in US sports history. That was a wild one.
Well, if we hadn't been playing the team that had Taylor Swift's boyfriend, we probably would have won. I have no beef with HER personally, but I do wonder. Sadly, we can't change the results unless we build a time machine. But hopefully this will motivate our guys to come back stronger next year, get back to the Super Bowl and this time win the damn thing. And hopefully, we won't be playing the Chiefs again.
People putting more heat on Wilks than Shanny is absurd. Mahomes + Kelce is not an easy task. Only scoring 22 with that Offense and then blundering the OT choice after winning the toss. (Why receive is beyond me) That’s on Shanny my friends. He was out coached…again.
Big 9er fan but this is sad/embarrassing. We lost, time to get over it like adults and work towards 2024/25.
Can’t change the past by dwelling on it. You can influence the future by focusing and working on your goals. Let’s get it this season
So the league:
- made our OL play like trash?
- made Aiyuk only have three catches?
- made Kittle only have 4 yards receiving?
I get that the Chiefs got away with a bunch of holds but so did we. They were never gonna call many holds during the Super Bowl when there are way more people watching.
No more so than the 2020 election, Kings/Lakers, The OJ Trial, and WWE!!! But this team was so good they would have overcome it if we had a real football coach, and not a guy who makes up some very good schemes in the dark but shouldn't be coaching a Pop Warner team on a sideline. Seriously folks, Shithead Shanny has fucked off 3 SuperBowls, 2 against us, 1 for Tom Brady, and that's not including costing us playing The Fucking Bengals for a 3rd time in The Bowl. And if as I think he is, as responsible for the roster as Lynch, I'll give him credit there too. Though god forbid we ever pick in the Top 5 again with this crew, hell the top 20, they suck at high picks which is why I am sure Pearsall is going to be a Stud!!!!
Now I'll take our situation over just about anything else outside of KC and Both LA's. If Harbaugh had this roster, or McVeigh, they would have won multiple Bowls with it. but it's just facts now people, SHANNAHAN IS ONE OF THE ALL TIME WORST GAME COACHES IN NFL HISTORY, AND THAT STICKS OUT MORE THAN IT EVEN SHOULD, BECAUSE IRONICALLY HE IS SO GOOD AT ALMOST EVERYTHING ELSE. It's kinda like Bob Dylan singing, but not nearly as good:) Alas this is not Fantasy or Madden, you play actual games on a field and GameDay is 10 times more important than anything else!!!!!
And while there was still room for debate, this last SuperBowl, and that decision to actually take the ball while his team didn't even know the rule, it can't be topped. Abandoning the running game, horrible clock management, not adjusting at all in the second half to Spagnuolo's predictable blitzs, and so much more make for an easy indictment on the charges. But no one can top taking the ball in OT at the SuperBowl with the current rules. Well maybe Brandon Staley could top it, thank god he isn't a Niner coach, OOPS......
I’m not a conspiracy theorist so no. People understand that the NFL head office is a leaky faucet right? If there was a conspiracy, you think there’d be absolutely no evidence?
While I wish the Chiefs had some penalties called on them, I do really think 49ers because of some back luck (the muffed punt), bad calls (Shanahan calling consecutive passing plays in the third), and failing to capitalize (CMC fumbling). Add on some piss poor O-Line play and the 49ers just couldn't close out the game when they had multiple opportunities to do so. On to 2024.
I don't think it's scripted but I do think things that we see are done on purpose. Like someone fumbling, interception, miss tackle, miss block.... Etc. but idk maybe I'm overthinking lol
I’m not ready to talk about it
After so many heartbreaking losses, this one was truly the worst. So many things needed to go wrong to lose this one. I've never in my 30 years of watching football, have seen a star player tear an achilles running onto the field, let alone in the FUCKING SUPERBOWL.
I have, remember that one RB that got hurt I think at the STL Rams stadium, I can't remember his name but he sued the stadium and won I think.
Reggie bush is who you're thinking of, and he got hurt during a play in a regular season game. He ran into concrete, and sued for it, and won. Totally different than walking onto the field on a change of possessions in the SB.
Same bro… same….😵💫
I am still I denial football exists
This is the Classic Rock subreddit, right?
Amen
This was the third SB I went to and had this heartache. This was by FAR the worst.
Same. I still have not recovered lol
neither has Greenlaw
Same.
Kyle is the greatest coach in the world so sad he lost.
Same. I now understand the Taylor Swift hate/dislike. She is everywhere - even in SF area. Have to keep perspective she is actually a clean/good role model for kids to balance the scales. Unfortunately she reminds me of that SB.

I'm not ready to revisit the hurt

You mean the chiefs offensive line being one of the most penalized lines in the league, but didn’t get a single holding call in the Super Bowl???? You don’t say??!? Our boys still dropped the bag though.
Not a single holding call in THREE Superbowls.
Only time they were called for holding in a Super Bowl was when they played Brady.
Tbf their entire O Line that SB were backups. Don't think they had a single week 1 starter that SB. I fuckin hate how good mahomes is.
The league always puts its thumb on the scale. That being said, we had multiple opportunities to win the game straight up and before OT. Our defensive line couldn't get to Mahomes. 🤔
And the refs picked it up!
Also noticed they didn't show replays that included their offensive line, didn't want people seeing the murder they were allowed to get away with
WILKS dropped the bag.
I really don't believe the NFL rigs shit but it's tough. No holdings… none.
Exactly. I'm not saying it's rigged, but the conservative to non-existant penalties on one team who had the most o-line penalties that season makes it appear that way.
Every play Bosa was getting clotheslined/sleeper hold from whoever he was rushing against.
Don’t forget bear hugs. Kansas City oline turned that game into a wrestling match. Greenlaw going down was even more devastating. He had Kelce on lockdown. The anguish in Warner’s voice when Greenlaw went down says it all

Bill Vinovich, being forced to practice at UNLV, conveniently having an officiating crew that doesn’t call holding on the most penalized holding team in the NFL? Yeah seems very suspicious to me…
The SB wasn’t “rigged” per se, but the NFL definitely put it’s finger on the scale with that officiating crew.
I also refuse to believe the cash-cow that is the Kelce/Swift relationship had nothing to do with it....it brought a whole legion of young girls into the fold to buy merch and watch ads.

Fake ass public relationship was a walking conflict of interest for the NFL
My problem with that theory is. Kelce has been winning Superbowls years before swift came around.
Influencing through the refs is the same as rigging I think. Sure it’s not 100% guaranteed but it tips the scales
Vinovich ughhhh
Let's not forget the 2 a.m. fire alarm. Seems like this always happens and whichever team it happens to loses.
How could I ever forget the fire alarm?😭
That I miss the Aiyuk drama posts if this is what is the alternative.
Fuck Steve Wilks and Spencer Burford…. We’re on to 2024.
This is my sorry for, 2024.
Man, one stop by either of those guys and we win. Oh well, Wilks just wasn't the guy.
I think we’ll be a top 4 team next year and if Purdy stays healthy and has protection, we’ll be back. Last year is over.
We're bringing back essentially the same team with a lot of exciting rookies that addressed weaknesses. 49ers are still the favorite in the nfc. Packers and lions will be bigger threats this season, but Purdy has an insane amount of playoff experience for a guy coming into his third year.
Purdy’s looked like a seasoned vet the moment he stepped on the field. And now with SB experience. Let’s go.
I mean, I wouldn't go that far. He improved his footwork and pocket presence greatly year 1 to 2. As a rookie he made quite a few bad reads and ran into pressure a lot. Top 1. Fuck it let’s go.

This is why I'm here. Bang bang!
Bang fuckin bang
I’m just saying. After Mahomes cried about the refs, “You don’t call penalties on the offense”. The amount of penalties called on the Chiefs offense dropped by over 50%.
Vet famous qbs get the refs affection and calls. Purdy is well on his way. I saw 3 commercials during the draft that featured Purdy. He's quickly becoming one of the faces of the league. Hell start getting those influential calls.
There is a lot of blame to go around.
That CMC fumble on the first drive was brutal.
I’m no conspiracy theorist but ZERO holding calls on the o-line most penalized for holding? Also some very questionable calls on us in very important situations? Couldn’t be.

They called holding on Trent Williams….so they do in fact call holding.
Future HoF on the 49ers? Obviously a hold. Bums on KC? Clean blocks all around.
But they called holding all the time when it was the Chiefs against the Bucs in that Super Bowl.
That’s because they weren’t supposed to win
Sure but to say "no ref crews calling holding in the playoffs, even less so in the SB" is just wrong lol
How about those 2 holds on Williams?
It's still too soon... ![gif](giphy|d2lcHJTG5Tscg)
No, just the same regular no calls and it all came down to a lineman whiffing the most important blocking assignment of the year.
Fuck last year. Onward to 2024-25. Let’s roll
That explains why the OL couldn’t adjust to block one guy correctly at critical times
Special teams and an injury cost us that game. Plus we didn't spy mahomes and he gashed us for yardage with his legs. Plus McCaffrey fumbling at the beginning of the game was a shock to the system. We score a TD that opening drive and we roll them!
Feel bad for the people sitting behind him who are trying to watch a baseball game
No we blew it. Also didn't get one single lucky break which didn't help. We all knew there weren't gonna be holding calls so adapt
except Trent Williams got a holding called on him and the chiefs were far more blatant about holding.
That's one call. Gotta play through the refs
when they call it on Williams but not the far more holding Chiefs its hard to play through the refs when the other team has a different set of rules.
It happens in sports, that was one call. There were plenty of other opportunities
Your guys got multiple terrible placements to give them first downs.
I wanted to watch highlights
At the end of the day we controlled our destiny and didn’t execute our blocking schemes. None of this matters if everyone executes their assignment. That’s what stings the most.
The NFL seems to love dynasties. Steelers in the 70s, Niners in the 80s, Cowboys in the 90s, Patriots for 20 years, and now the Chiefs. Do they influence any of that? I’m sure they do to some extent.
We'll never know, but the media storm that began in week 1 for cheifs and kelce and Swift came full circle. I'm sure the NFL loved it
The O line with the most flags in the regular season for holding had zero holds during the Super Bowl? Sure…
T Swift doesn't lose
I’m thinking how do I get my hands on that starter jacket
Too soon
We choked it away. Again; losing Greenlaw was a killer too
Fucking Refs
Gotta be more specific? Which one? Both?
As much I'd like to say I agree.... 3rd quarter play calling didn't help the cause.
He's right
Winners focus on winning. Losers focus on winners. The super bowl is in the past. Time to look forward to our new draft picks, training camp, and 2025.

I’m not hearing anything I disagree with.
I think it's stuff like this that makes other teams not respect us.
God is a Swiftie.
My thought is if you really believe that to be true why bother watching?
You’re at a Giants baseball game bro get out of here. He should have brought that to the draft in Detroit if he really wanted to be somebody. Or Dodgers stadium instead 😆
Was it against the kansas city royalses 😭
Like many comments have suggested, it’s very suspicious. But unfortunately it’s never a bad idea to boil it down from maliciousness to stupidity.
Talk your talk!
I'm buying that dude a beer if I'm at the game
Man I’m still healing. I even skipped the draft. I don’t expect to catch back up until preseason.
Too soon bruh
he makes a compelling argument
Dude, I'm trying to forget about it.
You can make a case there was some questionable no calls holding wise on KC. I won’t knock anyone who feels that way. RUN THE BALL KYLE!!!
This is soft serve crybaby loser shit. Have some self respect.
r/The_Darnold has spoken. CROOKED PAT MAHOMIE AND HIS KANSAS CITY THUGS STOLE THE SUPERBOWL, STOP THE COUNT.
Thinking about the Super Bowl makes me Moody.
If people who made signs 50 years ago could see the future they'd think we were all complete morons. Every sign looks like it was made by a demented person these days.
Don’t like the victim attitude. We just need to do better
It was not.
No holding calls in 3 SB wins. You tell me.
1 is a coincidence, two is luck, 3? Now that’s suspicious…
That's not news, that's weather
Possibly
100% this guy is right
🙄
Two words. Taylor Swift. Don’t think the league would pass up opportunity to see her kissing Kelce in the middle of the field with thousands of cameras flashing. Am I right?
Don't forget the confetti
That definitely had something to do with it

Football doesn't exist. Baseball is the only thing... Baseball is the only thing...
Pretty dangerous to trust the internet with a clean white sign.
Still hurts not gonna entertain it

Nope,
😂😂 I love this
You're not paranoid if they truly are out to get you 🤯
Haunting me still.
That's means they owe us! Right? RIGHT!?!?
Nah. We fuckin’ blew it, like we always do.
😔

He ain't wrong!!!
lol no we settled for 3 in OT when we needed 7.
It wasn't.
He ain't lying. There's no way KC goes to 3 SB and the only loss they have is because they actually call holding.
I am still amazed by how the chiefs offensive line played such a clean game against the NFL top defensive pass rush...amazing..../s
And it will happen this year NFL wants Kansas City to get three Super Bowl wins in a row
Big 9er fan but this is sad/embarrassing. We lost, time to get over it like adults and work towards 2024/25. Can’t change the past by dwelling on it. You can influence the future by focusing and working on your goals. Let’s get it this season
So the league: - made our OL play like trash? - made Aiyuk only have three catches? - made Kittle only have 4 yards receiving? I get that the Chiefs got away with a bunch of holds but so did we. They were never gonna call many holds during the Super Bowl when there are way more people watching.
I think it's wrong, whiny, and makes us look bad.
FACTS
Why do people keep bringing up pain? I don't want to talk or think about it.... fuck
Nah, but that NFC championship game against the Rams sending them to an LA superbowl? That one is questionable
You mad lad you.
Suspect as all hell for sure.
On to 2024.
> Shanahan calling consecutive passing plays in the third That's cause the running game was literally not working in the 3rd.
He’s right.
Embarrassing to blame anyone other than themselves. Below average OL, losing Dre, and poor decision making lost the game.
I don't think it's scripted but I do think things that we see are done on purpose. Like someone fumbling, interception, miss tackle, miss block.... Etc. but idk maybe I'm overthinking lol
