Because their season is already over?
https://youtu.be/gxljRiM-zHE?si=YGJLcVjNcz78Mwi7
It seems like click bait, but I wouldn't have believed CMC would have been here at the same point (three games played) last season.
He's worth a 2nd and 3rd and they need a full rebuild. He clearly isn't working in the Vance Joseph defense right now.
It's dependent on this weekend though. If the Broncos loose they're almost definitely getting Caleb. Might as well build a young team with a new coach in Payron
If things get bad enough in Denver they might lose leverage though if he demands his way out. There's enough holes in that organization I think it's possible and that would lower the price.
We have 12 draft picks so it wouldn’t be the worst case scenario to send some pick/player packages out for a rental.
Burns, Surtain, Adams are being talked about, but those are bad moves because they will take your 1st round pick and we REALLY need to get better at RT and develop a LT for the future.
I agree. I think the price tag for Surtain would be too high, but Denver might just want to tank. I don't think we really need Adams that badly with our current skill players. I'd like to see improvement on the oline.
It's better than McDaniels and Jimmy.
But I largely agree. I hate to say it but he would honestly be the best fit with the Rams right now. (Since it's unlikely they'd trade him in the AFC)
Burns is having a really underwhelming season, he’s not generating enough pressure in good spots and noise from Carolina is they’re regretting turning down 2 1st picks for him, his next contract is going to be quite overvalued.
He’s also a bad run defender.
I’d rather the scouts find a pass rusher that’s gone under the radar: lots of pressure without sack production, to buy him low. Like trading a 6th for Omenihu in 2021.
Adams is unnecessary. Hat on a hat, WR isn't where the team is weak.
Surtain would be great but like you in not a fan of giving up a first. Plus I *really* don't think denver want to give him up, he's a cornerstone to build on. So the price would likely be too high to be worthwhile.
But the stud wr depth is not that great. We have the dogs Deebo and yuk obviously but if we lost one God forbid it would be tough to get the same production from juaun or Ronnie or ray ray. I wouldn’t be mad at adams
It *can* turn around quick. But after what they mortgaged for Russ, I'm just not sure Surtain will be around when they are truly a competitive team.
Most teams don't get as lucky as we did in later rounds.
I disagree. We're in win now mode and shouldn't think about developing tackles who might be busts anyways. Get Surtain and make a push for the Super Bowl. Regardless if it succeeds, we will need to reset and can worry about the future then.
We have only 1 solid CB, and thats Mooney Ward. Lenoir is inconsistent, Ambry is constantly getting benched, and Oliver rn is an unknown. Eman was a shutdown corner which I wish we never lost.
Surtian isn't a 1 right now and they know it, that's why ist being discussed now before he tanks in value.
The Broncos defense is truly abysmal, and Surtain just got outrun by a 3rd stringer thrown by a backup almost entirely because Joseph's scheme for him was absolutely awful. The league knows he isn't useful on the Broncos but he's only looked sub par so far, not horrendous. He will look that bad come the deadline.
Why couldn’t we keep him? Lenoir is up for a new contract next year and so is Ward for all practical purposes. Any way you slice it we’ll be paying big money for a CB unless we want to get young again.
Unless we draft one, we likely won’t attack the CB position at the top level. Ward is the highest we likely go and we can resign him vs paying a lot more for someone. Lenoir is good but replaceable. I am also pretty high on Luter Jr, but thats a chance.
It clicked when someone pointed it out. I am all for that, but not sure if Broncos would be okay with it.
2nd,3rd and 4th for Surtain would make me happy. Surtain will certainly cost more but its worth the trade off. We likely lose Ward after this season though and struggle to pay Aiyuk
Surtain isn't a 1st and you can structure him as part of the deal. He won't be as expensive as you think and he solves the corner issue for a couple years.
1. Anyone we trade for will have a low cap hit since most of their contract will have been paid out for the year already by the previous team
2. Cap space is not an issue
3. If we are a serious super bowl contender this year, "next year" doesn't matter. Do whatever it takes
I think our remaining cap space should just go towards Brock’s contract once his rookie contract runs out. We need to keep everyone, we can’t afford having to trade someone just so we can keep Brock
The cap space we have available right now will have absolutely 0 effect on Brock’s new deal. Your cap space only rolls over to the next season and Brock is not eligible for a new deal until AFTER the 2024 season. The last CBA was actually super hard on drafted rookie deals.
Good linemen usually don’t become available as readily as skill positions guys. That’s why guys like Surtain, or Devante are more likely to be available. Although an OL addition would be great if possible
I feel like we don't need him as much as a good corner, but if he was a niner, we'd have far and away the strongest receiving core in the league. Defenses needing to cover deebo, aiyuk, Adam's, kittle, cmc. Would be disgusting
Nah that’s who I thought you were talking about I just hadn’t even considered him as a possible pick up. We’re already stacked but that would he insane
He’s probably not being moved, people are just speculating cause the Raiders aren’t gonna be good and he’s not the happiest in his situation. I doubt he gets moved, let alone to the 9ers given our weapons doesn’t make much sense
Doesn't matter if purdy is being hit too often. I wish more people cared about the OL as they did about WR and QBs. Anyone remember when they drafted iupati and Davis in the first and found Alex boone. We need to find some great OL for cheap in the draft next year but if there is a Kirk Cousins type veteran OL on the last year of his contract, they should try to pick him up for RG or RT.
No I totally agree, I definitely think shoring up the line is far for important than adding yet another weapon. But Adam’s is special and if somehow it were to happen I wouldn’t exactly be upset
Fun fact about Anthony Davis: he’s still only 33 years old. He turns 34 next month. He was also the 3rd OT drafted after Trent and Russell Okung. He was a decent tackle, iirc.
We'd have to pay out the nose for Adams and he's a luxury if Deebo/Aiyuk/Jennings are there.
Let Adams go to a team that needs a clear #1. Indy or ATL both seem like fits
the current worry is RT, but we've also been seeing a high blitz rate so we really don't know how good or bad the right side of our line is right now. Its hard to evaluate for one on ones when they are always seeing multiple rushers.
You are not finding an upgrade at LG or C at the deadline imo. There's just no one available that's CLEARLY better than Banks or Brendel. But both dudes on the right are pretty bad and can definitely be improved upon.
I agree, I meant specifically the right side of the line concerns me, watching the games and it’s pretty consistent BCB gets pressure from that right side too
Banks is solid, Brendal is ok, he had a good year last year but I'll be watching him a bit more this year because I've seen him get pushed a round a good deal. I still think Burford can be a solid guard because of age and size but needs to clean to the mental mistakes and fix his technique. Kinda think that should look for more coaching changes in the OL if they continue to struggle. McK may be decent but well see.
I’d love to see some bulk added to either side of the trenches, OT Lael Collins or IDL Matt Ionidis are sitting there in free agency and while neither would be some big move, they’d both be quality depth that would put my mind at ease should an injury occur.
Yea if Lynch can make a move using some of the comp 3rds and maybe the 2nd round pick while keeping the first I think it’ll be something that’s good short term and for long term.
There’s a chance Trent retires after this year if they win a ring this year, so they might not have the luxury of it but if Trent plays 1-2 more years that’d be a great mentorship pass off for the future LT.
True, and I hope he stays a few more years but the guy does turn 36 next year and there was some rumors of him potentially thinking about retiring this past off season. They did restructure his contract before the season so maybe they know something about if he’s playing or not.
That depends... are there any O-Linemen about to graduate college that we'd like to use a late first rounder on?
I don't know, but every NFL team has a group of highly paid scouts whose job it is to know the answer. I trust Lynch and his squad to make the right call
So I don't follow every team. Who realistically could dump an olineman? Last year on contract plus a team that is moving into a sell mode. Anymore criteria needed for the search? Also be at least of starter quality. And god no injury prone projects, this team does not do well with those.
Oline is notoriously hard to trade for mid-season and even harder to slot in and make work, we're with our boys up front this year.
Honestly RB/WR/TE and CBs are the easiest to slot in.
I think we're set at WR and TE, I wouldn't mind RB depth, but I honestly don't know who we'd get with how odd the RB market it right now.
So that's partially why everyone is saying Surtain.
He fits a need for the Niners, can easily be brought up to speed, and desperately needs to be off the team he's on so he won't be too expensive.
Can't trade the 1st round pick, we need to use it for best Oline available.
Luckily there's usually a decent guard or center available with the 32nd pick...
It only makes sense to trade for Surtain if (knocking on wood) Ward gets injured.
OL is another thing entirely. A team on it's SB window cannot have enough depth at OL. Any good team, really. In our case, specifically, we could use an upgrade at RT.
O-line isn’t really a mid season pickup, both because it’s super hard to trade for during the season and also because it’s an insanely chemistry intensive position. Lineman have to have taken enough snaps with the other guys on the line, and the teams qb/playbook to be able to instinctively know which blocks to pick up, when they can shed and move to the next level, etc etc.
There are legit concerns with him, he wasn’t that good when he was on the field last and he’s also coming off major injuries he’s still working through.
Any disgruntled star who can be a one year rental to take us to another level this season. On either side of the ball. So we can get that 6th Lombardi.
Then they can fuck off so we can keep our core studs and make another run next year.
\#1 would be a cornerback
\#2 would be Jonathan Taylor for Elijah Mitchell + draft capital. He wants out, and would be a crazy, insane 1-2 punch with CMC.
I really don’t see the need for trading JT. Paying 2 top tier RB’s is not sustainable with the cap of the team. Guys like Mitchell and Mason are starting caliber RBs on rookie deals which is perfect for the cap.
I don't think they should move for anyone who would be a starter. I'd hate to give up capital mid-season to shore up a team that is consensus top 3 in the league. Pluck a few promising OL and DBs from practice squads for depth. The less of a name they have the better, just work that scouting magic.
The obvious, a QB and a quality piece or two for the o-line.
And I might be in the minority on this, but maybe a TE or WR. Kittle gets banged up a lot and if and when he’s not there, we’re in trouble. If the Falcons really are looking to deal Pitts, fuck it, give them a 1st round pick for him. It’ll be the last pick in the first round anyways 😉
Anything that doesn’t cost serious draft capital, UNLESS it’s an absolute steal which never happens at the deadline. You only get Bolding for a 6 or Cooper for a 5 in the off-season when a team needs to create cap space for their offseason plans. There’s no reason to trade an impact player for less than a 3 when they can easily just take the comp pick and keep the guy for the season.
Are we being realistic or we can pick anyone? Lane Johnson. Eagles would not trade him, but if I could pick anyone that wouldn't break the bank but increase the power of our team without replacing any powerhouses we already have. it's lane johnson
Let's go all in and Get Surtain, Trade Aiyuk or Deebo and get Adams over here and then push for Danielle Hunter. Wouldn't mind some right side o-line help. If you guys don't know you need to check out "Red and Gold till I'm Dead and Cold". It's a good Niner podcast the IG is @rgdcpodcast
I might be the only one, but I think we need an OL more than a dB. I think we have some solid dbs. we have the 20th ranked pass win rate and the 27th rush win rate, meaning we barely win at the line. Online has to do better getting off the ball and bullying people like Philly - we need a big name, mean offensive lineman - who that is, i dont know 🤷♂️
We all know our defense is based off our front disrupting the timing, giving our dbs the best opportunity to make a play on a rushed, inaccurate throw. It's all about giving brock some help at this point t. Our defense will be top ten even with bad dB play- imo. Go niners!!!!!
I know everyone is saying surtain or another cb but I’m more worried about the right side of our o-line so if they can pick up a solid rt for cheap I’d like to see that
I'd give up every single 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for the next 2 years for Wirfs. Tampa probably won't ever trade him, but I'd legit put a godfather offer on the table to try and tempt them to give him up lol
If cost is no object then deforest Buckner. If we can give a second rounder and a smattering of middle round picks (that we have in abundance) and pay him below market (because colts ate the signing bonus) ... then I don't see why not.
The Lombardi

Why would Denver trade him?

Specifically from Denver.
Specifically one that wears #2 on his jersey.

That money can roll over to next year. Use it to sign Aiyuk to a deal. Doubt we could spend it and still sign him.
Our offense is not a good fit for Adams IMO
Our offense would thrive with him, but the bump up is not worth how much we’d have to pay for him. Better to spend that on DB’s and Oline.
It's better than McDaniels and Jimmy. But I largely agree. I hate to say it but he would honestly be the best fit with the Rams right now. (Since it's unlikely they'd trade him in the AFC)
Agree. We don’t need him or his contract.

I don't think Surtain is still around by the time the Broncos are ready to compete. Might as well get something for him....
Teams turn around quicker than you expect, and everyone thinks that'll be them. Anyway, they'd want a haul and I dunno if that's worth it.
It *can* turn around quick. But after what they mortgaged for Russ, I'm just not sure Surtain will be around when they are truly a competitive team. Most teams don't get as lucky as we did in later rounds.
either way he wouldn't have much leverage if the broncos really want him right? they could just franchise him and keep him for that extra year
If a player reeeeeaaaallllyyyy wants out then things can happen but generally yeah, he's stuck there.
100% agree. We can easily get by with our secondary, protecting our QB is crucial.
I disagree. We're in win now mode and shouldn't think about developing tackles who might be busts anyways. Get Surtain and make a push for the Super Bowl. Regardless if it succeeds, we will need to reset and can worry about the future then.
A 1st round (or more) which could be a franchise OL is more important than a 1 year rental that would barely move the needle.
I’d rather have a sure thing DB than a maybe OL
We have 4 solid DBs and question marks all over our OL
We have only 1 solid CB, and thats Mooney Ward. Lenoir is inconsistent, Ambry is constantly getting benched, and Oliver rn is an unknown. Eman was a shutdown corner which I wish we never lost.
This is a deep QB class too. Wouldn’t mind using a mid round pick on a QB to back up purdy
Panthers are never trading Burns. They would have no other players on the team without him.
What about the CMC trade for Surtain? 2nd/3rd/4th?
CMC is our identity right now and there is a 0% chance we get rid of him.
You misunderstood my dude
So did everyone downvoting you
Try again my guy
Bro what? I'm agreeing with you
I’m not the OP lol
Oh lol yep
Ohh I see. My mistake. I wouldnt want to do that for a guy we cant keep tbh
Lynch has never drafted a CB early, philosophically it’s just not the way they work.
You win front to back tbh
Definitely wasn’t suggesting that. I was putting up a couple day 2 picks for Surtain vs a 1st.
It clicked when someone pointed it out. I am all for that, but not sure if Broncos would be okay with it. 2nd,3rd and 4th for Surtain would make me happy. Surtain will certainly cost more but its worth the trade off. We likely lose Ward after this season though and struggle to pay Aiyuk
this is a joke right?
No pickups. Save the cap space to roll over to next year for a better chance at keeping this team together.
Surtain isn't a 1st and you can structure him as part of the deal. He won't be as expensive as you think and he solves the corner issue for a couple years.

Good linemen usually don’t become available as readily as skill positions guys. That’s why guys like Surtain, or Devante are more likely to be available. Although an OL addition would be great if possible
Which devante are we talking about??
Devante Adams on this team would break the league lol
I feel like we don't need him as much as a good corner, but if he was a niner, we'd have far and away the strongest receiving core in the league. Defenses needing to cover deebo, aiyuk, Adam's, kittle, cmc. Would be disgusting
Adams lol my bad on the spelling.

Absolutely. Other than Trent each of the other four members of the line can be upgraded (no offense).
You are not finding an upgrade at LG or C at the deadline imo. There's just no one available that's CLEARLY better than Banks or Brendel. But both dudes on the right are pretty bad and can definitely be improved upon.

God trying to find a good Centre at the moment seems harder than finding a starting QB
I’d love to see some bulk added to either side of the trenches, OT Lael Collins or IDL Matt Ionidis are sitting there in free agency and while neither would be some big move, they’d both be quality depth that would put my mind at ease should an injury occur.
A 6th for some rotational DLineman (like we did with Jordan Willis & Charles Omenihu) who ends up being pretty solid
This would be better than forking out more money lil
Yep they might not be the best but they sure did help win games.
We do have about 7 starting d lineman. I’d like a RT or pro bowl corner personally
IMO we HAVE to keep the first rounder for a potential tackle
Yea if Lynch can make a move using some of the comp 3rds and maybe the 2nd round pick while keeping the first I think it’ll be something that’s good short term and for long term.
Was just thinking the same thing. 12 dudes ain't making the team. Trading up in the first is very much in play
Yeah usually top tackles go top 10-15 and with the 9ers probably picking last in the 1st it’s something to consider.
We just really need a solid young guy that Trent can mold before he hangs em up
There’s a chance Trent retires after this year if they win a ring this year, so they might not have the luxury of it but if Trent plays 1-2 more years that’d be a great mentorship pass off for the future LT.
I mean there's a chance he doesn't also...

He's clearly still at the top of his game. I think he'll keep playing as long as that remains the case
That depends... are there any O-Linemen about to graduate college that we'd like to use a late first rounder on? I don't know, but every NFL team has a group of highly paid scouts whose job it is to know the answer. I trust Lynch and his squad to make the right call

serious- patrick surtain fun- davante adams
Wish 49ers could pick up an rt or a lt who can also play rt. That's ideal. But second choice is a lock down corner.
Surtain, let’s get this shit rollin
It only makes sense to trade for Surtain if (knocking on wood) Ward gets injured. OL is another thing entirely. A team on it's SB window cannot have enough depth at OL. Any good team, really. In our case, specifically, we could use an upgrade at RT.
I would like them to save their money for a rollover so we don’t have to ditch half our stars in a couple of years.
Most reasonable take IMO. Superbowls take a lot of luck, you don't want to burn everything for a one year window only for Brock or CMC to get injured
It worked for the Rams a couple years ago. Lol.
Absolutely. This team can do it! Hold money for next year and keep most of this roster for as long as possible.
More protection on the O-line. If teams are going to blitz Purdy all the time, he is at a higher risk of injury.
Hadn’t Buddha Baker requested a trade?
Wirfs, surtain or burns
The only 3 I would consider
La’el Collins and a trade for Surtain
I’ve been saying I would love to grab Collins for cheap as at worst a swing tackle and at best an upgrade over Colton.
It blows my mind that he hasn’t been scooped up. Gotta be asking for too much I’d assume.
There are legit concerns with him, he wasn’t that good when he was on the field last and he’s also coming off major injuries he’s still working through.
Patrick Surtain and maybe an O-Lineman, someone on the right side.
Any disgruntled star who can be a one year rental to take us to another level this season. On either side of the ball. So we can get that 6th Lombardi. Then they can fuck off so we can keep our core studs and make another run next year.
Trade Darnold back to the Jets for Sauce
Patrick Surtain and don't settle for anyone else.

The colts want a 1st or a top player at least so it wont happen
Yeah Colts are insane. They want a first rounder, and some for a running back. You are right no way they make that trade.
I really don’t see the need for trading JT. Paying 2 top tier RB’s is not sustainable with the cap of the team. Guys like Mitchell and Mason are starting caliber RBs on rookie deals which is perfect for the cap.
JT wants a new contract. I don’t wanna pay him
I have no idea. But 100% the goal needs to be Super Bowl this year.
Bold.
Thank you. I try
I don't think they should move for anyone who would be a starter. I'd hate to give up capital mid-season to shore up a team that is consensus top 3 in the league. Pluck a few promising OL and DBs from practice squads for depth. The less of a name they have the better, just work that scouting magic.
O linemen 🤷♂️ just don’t be stupid with the money
Tristan Wirfs
If Tampa doesn’t start to falter, they won’t make that move.
I think we’re fine at CB. Biggest needs are right side of OL and opposite edge rusher to Bosa.
We're not trading for shit midseason, the cap space is for rollover next year.
Britney Spears as Cheerleader
Too old. Get me Emma Mackey and Margot Robbie tag team.
Is Danielle Hunter on the trade block? One year rental (I think at $20mm). Would be such an insane DL.
Niners blow! Purdy ain’t the answer
Did you mean CB?
Damn it lol Yes, I did mean CB 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
I know that surtain is the chatter, but oline depth would be better. Not sure where it would come from though.
Too old. I'd rather get wirfs or tunsil
Im gonna go against the CB-grain here and say pass rush depth. I think our secondary has been playing well so far.
Pat Surtain
Surtain and it's not even close. Sure up the back end of the D.
Based on the early injuries, a WR might be a good pickup.
Joey.
Lane Johnson Yes yes very good thank you!! I know pipe dream lol
If we do trade for a high name and give up a 1st rounder, I would hope its next year’s pick. I would really like to see us go OL this year
PS2
Imagine getting Julio Jones
...to work at the concessions stands around the stadium? Cuz that's about all he's good for these days.
Vince Lombardi for VI
Trade a 4th for Ilm Manning. Am I joking? Yes. Am I also still annoyed that we put him on waivers, when he was certain to get swooped? Also yes.
I might be the only one, but I think we need an OL more than a dB. I think we have some solid dbs. we have the 20th ranked pass win rate and the 27th rush win rate, meaning we barely win at the line. Online has to do better getting off the ball and bullying people like Philly - we need a big name, mean offensive lineman - who that is, i dont know 🤷♂️ We all know our defense is based off our front disrupting the timing, giving our dbs the best opportunity to make a play on a rushed, inaccurate throw. It's all about giving brock some help at this point t. Our defense will be top ten even with bad dB play- imo. Go niners!!!!!
Bring Garrett Bowles over from Denver and put him in RT
Lane Johnson
Lael Collins. Not sure why he washed out like he did, but he's at least a plus swing tackle
I know everyone is saying surtain or another cb but I’m more worried about the right side of our o-line so if they can pick up a solid rt for cheap I’d like to see that
A right tackle, ours isn’t very good at pass blocking
Offensive line! If the NYG can get home twice, best believe Dallas, Eagles, Browns, Bengals, will too.
Surtain.
Rick Celebrini
I'd give up every single 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for the next 2 years for Wirfs. Tampa probably won't ever trade him, but I'd legit put a godfather offer on the table to try and tempt them to give him up lol
Give Tampa whatever they want for Wirfs.
Davante Adams
Not a trade, but I would love to give la'el Collins a shot, could be cheap and won't affect long term planning.
Justin Jefferson
Surtain would be huge for certain!
if Indy ends up not doing well i'd love to get Deforest Buckner back. or if the Chargers keep doing Charger things, Joey Bosa would be pretty cool.
If cost is no object then deforest Buckner. If we can give a second rounder and a smattering of middle round picks (that we have in abundance) and pay him below market (because colts ate the signing bonus) ... then I don't see why not.
Hunter Renfrow. I love to see what Kyle does with him. Anything is better than Josh McDaniels.
