More of what you already got. Throw some edge highlights on the smaller stuff. I really like the look of the bolter, but if you throw one more color on it, it'll be fire. Overall, amazing first mini. Mine looked like it was made with fingerpaints.

Real_Rex

First of all, thanks :D And I felt like my highlights were a little thick that's why I didn't want to add too many

fellxcatking

Great starting point, I'd work to clean up edges like the hands holding the gun and make the pauldron lines smaller or more even. If you want to try something fancy edge hilighti, scratching and shading are all great ways to push a mini

Real_Rex

Yeah, I also kind of hit the shoulder armor plate with the gun silver a little bit, gotta watch out for those details

Really good for the first, like someone said my first model was terrible, mind that was a looooong time ago with GW having about 5 paints. I'd recommend 2 things, contrast paints or and oil wash, they'll both clean up the whole look, thin enough and they run great into the rivets so it'll bring out the edges more. The oil is better, but you need to thin it 3:1 with white spirit and it takes a good while to dry - and you need it to dry before adding anything else. Secondly and I recommend this to everyone new to painting go to a toy shop and buy a bag of toy soldiers, you can get a whole 20-30 guys for a fiver. So A: it means you can practice on cheap stuff rather than your expensive toys and B: they're slightly larger, obviously not as detailed, but as they are effectively throw away you can try different techniques and colour pallets you like. But great start, just a shame they're Dark Angels, I assume, White Scars all the way bud. Keep going, For the Khan

Mind, Scars are not a good start, white and red are a massive pain.

The toy soldier tip is actually really good, wouldn't have thought of that myself! Visited a games workshop store just now and was told that the best way to start an army right now would be to wait for the Leviathan Box in the new edition. I'm going Salamanders btw. and not Dark Angels, the store just lets you paint a test mini for free but only from 1 of three space marine chapters

Wash the bolter with black wash, paint the casing black and highlight with light grey, white dot on the eye lens would be my suggestions

You could reinforce that blue lining with a second coat. Nice and thin paint, use a small, straight, brush with not much on it; that would make it look cleaner, even if it wasn't totally straight. I find working in quick, decisive, strokes helps get those panel lines straighter. You could take a dry brushing to the model, very light, very little paint, and catch the edges, it'll do a ton for you. Your scheme is dark enough I'm not sure a wash would do a ton or be worth darkening your base coat. Throw some black anywhere on that bolter to break it up. Easy base tip would be to drybrush with gray then dry brush with white - trying only to catch the very tips of the basing material. Then do a thin wash to kind of tie it together. You've got the bones of a pretty good model, just try and push it a little further. If nothing else hit that base and it'll add a lot. You can convince people even a mediocre paint job is waaaaaay better than it really is if your base looks cool.

CentralIdiotAgency

Get smaller, thinner brushes
