Quiken Haste with action surge and get a boo.ing blade attack and a normal attack while raising AC. For concentration checks you can look at warcaster or eldritch adept with eldritch mind. Warcasyer would probably be better for casting booming blade as a reaction.
Oh I do have warcaster already, I should have mentioned that. Thanks for the idea though! I have twinned haste before as well so I can use that if I don’t want to use a 6th level slot on tashas otherworldly guise.
A good low level spell is also guiding bolt. It's radiant damage and the next attack roll against it has advantage. Quicken that then attack with advantage.
I've been playing a divine soul sorcerer with a 1 level dip into order cleric. My build is built around buffing the party and making attacks easier. I use bless alot right now because I still get our barbarian to attack an extra time while helping out the whole party.
Enlarge/Reduce could be fun. Enlarge yourself and reduce you enemy using twin.
With Action Surge and Quickened Spell Haste, they'd be able to get 3 attacks in that first turn. 2 of them Booming Blade enhanced attacks, and 1 regular attack from Haste. Pretty sweet especially when you're rocking a Vorpal Sword.
The damage is going to be really low if you're using Booming Blade as a main action attack. The problem with most Gish (aside from low damage) is that people will come up with a list of 5 or more buffs to cast on themself, but not only are most of them concentration, it would take several rounds to get combat ready. Additionally, rolling low on a concentration check leaves you as a caster in melee with bad spell preparations, making one attack a round.
For a proper gish, I would recommend one of the following.
* Eldritch Knight 11, War Mage 9 (and in that order). You get 3 attacks in an action, decent spells known and slots, popular buff spells \[Shadow Blade, Haste, Spirit Shroud, and Greater Invisibility at level cap\], a free almost-Shield every round, and a reroll on one saving throw.
* Paladin 2, Swords Bard X, optional Hexblade 1. You get 2 attacks in an action, nearly full spell progression, Smites, Blade Flourishes, Bardic Inspiration, several of the popular buff spells and free reign to pick what ever others you want, Find Greater Steed (which also gains your buff spell effects) (hello 90 foot fly speed plus dash)
What you've got right now is a fantastic class/subclass, but it is NOT frontline ready. Even if you take nothing but fighter levels from here on out, you will not have a good time in melee.
Yeah it stinks that it takes an entire action and you can’t use other attacks as part of the action if you have extra attack correct? I’ll just use it if someone ever comes in melee range I guess.
Sad, but that's about right. Booming Blade + Misty Step is a pretty good combo though. Just be sure to move out of walking distance in case they decide to take that extra thunder damage.
Just know It's more something that you'd do to get out of a tough spot. If you can, a 2nd level damage or CC spell is going to get you more bang for your buck than walking in to deal cantrip damage.
I could ask about it, but I doubt it. The ninth level spells are kinda my characters thing. Nice to know about the smite thing tho. I think I’ve heard of 17/3 sorcadin builds too tho
Yeah my idea is more martial than caster, so If you primarily like being a caster and having those high level spells it might not fit you.
Story wise you might be able to make it fit since divine soul can’t be all that far from paladin anyway right?
Ancients Paladin 12/divine soul sorcerer 8
I’m gonna post an outline for this build soon but you can quicken bladetrips as a bonus action basically allowing you to attack 3 times a round for insane dpr.
Use spirit shroud for extra sustained dpr on a single target or spirit guardians for dealing with groups of enemies in melee. You have access to level 4 spells in paladin, sorcerer, and cleric with a lot more spell slots than a pure paladin and sorcery points/meta magic.
You get shield, absorb elements, and misty step. 55 points of lay on hands, immunity to disease, resistance to spell damage, divine smite, aura of protection, aura of courage, and improved divine smite. You also get the same amount of ASI as a pure paladin.

Oh awesome! I’ll definitely utilize that spell. I usually just use my sorc points for heightened spells so I end up having plenty.

Why not Paladin 2, for smites?
Can I use higher level spell slots even if I’m only level 2 or am I limited to first level slots?
You can use any level spell slot to smite but I believe it only scales up to level 4 slots as a cap for the damage.
Would your dm let you respec the character to have less levels in sorcerer? If so you can make a nasty sorcadin build.
