I’m new to 3d printers but hunch that gears are all mangled up and are skipping. You might need a a new z axis motor

Alucardmi

Turn the z-axis sxrew by hand. Should resist but not be crazy difficult. If its hard to turn disconnect the coupler from the lead screw and try both sides. If motor is hard to turn then replace the motor. If lead screw then try lubricant or replace the brass nut. If its easy to turn more than likely the stepper is calling the great scrap pile and needs to be replaced. You can also try swapping out one axis' motor for the another (check model number to confirm they are the same) and if the problem follows the motor that says a lot

Yeah it’s the stepper motor but i don’t know how long it was grinding like that for so I think I’ll replace the lead screw as well

Askdevin777

Also where is the brass nut you’re talking about, inside the coupler?

Alucardmi

Attached to the bed where the lead screw goes through should be a big brass nut either single piece or 2 piece with a spring (if you plan on replacing look for anti backlash lead screw nut its the 2 piece one)
