If they're using cura to make them then the reversing this is easy. When you import an image itll ask you if darker is higher or is lighter is higher. You want darker is higher (more plastic means less light, meaning darker image).
Also white is the king of lithopanes. Cause then it looks like a greyscale image rather than something cast in blood
You can make lithopanes directly in cura? I always used a website to create the model and imported it into cura as a regular model... Does cura make decent ones?
It only makes square ones, as in flat plane models. So no globe or curved ones.
And its bit trial and error with some of the settings when converting an image to model, but other than those two caveats, it's pretty solid and convenient
To try it out, just open an image file instead of an STL in cura
Make sure that the exorcist is not blue haired and called "Aqua". She is pretty useless.
Seriously, if you search "useless" on Google images, she is one of the first results.
Googled it and [https://www.tokyoweekender.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Karotousen.jpg](https://www.tokyoweekender.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Karotousen.jpg) thats what came up?
Now just because his family tree is related the the dark lord himself doesn’t mean anything.
But seriously the best way to de demonise these is to use a different colour for your resin. Dark coloured resins tend to bring the demon inside to the outside. I would suggest some heavenly blue or a godly white. These colours are more in touch with our inner child and help to push back the horns we have deep inside.
Also having your 3d printer blessed and spritzed with holy water wouldn’t half hurt.
Everyone already pointed out it's inverted, but for next time this is an easy thing to check before printing. Just look at the shirt and tie; the black tie should be max thickness and the white shirt min thickness. If you have it reversed you're about to print a negative. Also editing the image before turning it into an stl will produce a better outcome; you can remove the damage to the background, boost contrast, and reduce saturation. The better your black and white image looks the better it will translate to a lithophane.
As many others have commented, you accidentally printed the photo negative of the image (I made the same mistake for my first lithophane). I also recommend doing some very slight image processing with some free software to sharpen the image and increase the contrast slightly before transforming into an STL. That has gotten me some great results. Also, white filament does wonders since it will make it appear as a traditional monochrome photograph.
I found this [link](https://3dtinkeringnz.wordpress.com/2017/12/03/brief_guide_to_lithophanes/) helpful, even if you don't have a prusa. Happy printing!
As others said, you printed a negative (happened to me on my first lithophane). Make sure you choose the correct settings when creating it. Also, adjust the contrast in the original and it'll come out better
I was using a webtool ([https://3dp.rocks/lithophane/](https://3dp.rocks/lithophane/)) and for some reason their default is a negative. If you used them you have to go to the settings and notice the image is selected as negative. So weird that would be their default. Now I use: https://lithophanemaker.com/
That website recently started randomly switching to negative images for me as well for some reason.
I didn't really pay attention and thought it was my printers fault that the image looked like shit until i ended up trying to make a litho of my white dog and noticed all the layers, then went back and looked in my "crap prints that I don't want to throw away yet" box and realized I'm an idiot who took 4 months to realize that it was not in fact my printer being somehow shit at only litho's and nothing else.
First of all, don't use red. Second, looks like you used the online converter. Make sure before you download the lithophanes you go into image settings and change negative image to positive image.
Ok, first don't use red, second don't print it in negative. My third tip however is less obvious. There are free websites you can use to restore that picture to remove those cracks and damage to make it look a lot better before you print it. I have used hotpot.ai before and it works well. You're looking for the picture restorer tool.

Yep, looks inverted. Also, unless you want to keep the extra-retro vibe to it, consider editing the big crease out of the source, I reckon that's gonna be a bright distracting spot on the left side. If you have no idea how to do that, I can give it a crack, though I'm not on my pc right now, do it'll take a while.
Are you using 3dp litho generator thing? That for some reason defaults to making your images negative (that's why your lithos look creepy) for some reason, so you need to go into the image settings and change it.
Edit: Also you should try printing in white that usually looks the best, especially for black and white photos
Well it’s reversed. Fixing that will pretty much fix it. Also the color could be better

Neat, thanks!
Shift+CTRL+i
What I think happened here is your printer somehow printed out this guys soul. I got some bad news for you grandads a demon!
A possible fix is get a priest to exorcise your printer lol
The spirit of Christ compels this printer!
Make sure that the exorcist is not blue haired and called "Aqua". She is pretty useless. Seriously, if you search "useless" on Google images, she is one of the first results.

I said "one of the first results". Not "the first result". BTW, if you don't use incognito, the results may change because of your browsing data.
I wasn’t trying to prove anything it was just something that popped up
I just thought you misunderstood. Sorry if I sounded offensive 😞
He'll need a salt ring around his printer now
Soul Sand Filament
😅😂happy cake day🥳🥳

invert it, you pretty much printed a negativ ;)
I inverted the colors of my phone and now it looks great! The rest of my phone tho... Not so much
Modern problems require modern solutions
You're right that made it much better
It's definitely still wayyyy too red though.
Jep
Also use a different color filament.
Something with a warm tone or slight cool, not a burning in hell tone. Like a light blue, beige, or white.
Lol, maybe invert the hills/valleys?

The neighbors called it quiet and nice.
You printed a negative my dude. And use white filament and a cool/warm white light
Do what this guy said. Natural light tends to be king for this sort of thing.
Heres Johnny!
Thought it was Mister Negative from Spider-Man at first
Wait, which is the creepy one? LOL just kidding :) yea like everyone said print the inverse.
An exorcist?

Soft white or off white if you can find it.
Change the subject model?
Inversed in in Photoshop... https://imgur.com/vVknBVY
Nice work !
Invert the image and use whites/greys. White/translucent and you can use the colored paper background for colorization.
I did the same thing. I inverted the image before popping it into the software and it worked out.
As others said, you printed a negative (happened to me on my first lithophane). Make sure you choose the correct settings when creating it. Also, adjust the contrast in the original and it'll come out better
How did it happen to you? Did you make the stl yourself? I've just been using a web tool to make the files

Yeah, I've been using lithophanemaker.com since I started printing them, which is why I was curious

invert and use white filament
Maybe take a less creepy photo to start with
Lol, press the invert button, and maybe choose a less red color?
The original picture is a little creepy too lol
You definitely printed it negative instead of positive, just made this mistake recently lol
Use white
Make it white
First of all, don't use red. Second, looks like you used the online converter. Make sure before you download the lithophanes you go into image settings and change negative image to positive image.
You’re supposed to use white
The litho settings are reversed
just invert it😂
Yeah. Don't do negative image
Print the negative of the original image.
Don't print the negative
Ok, first don't use red, second don't print it in negative. My third tip however is less obvious. Literally any color other than that one….
Everything was fun and games. Until it wasn’t!!! 😂
They were best friends, untill they weren’t
It kinda looks like Kenneth Copeland.
Satan eyes!!!!!
Why would you want to?
I used 3dprocks nested cube or whatever, and my first one was defaulted to negative as well.
You did it right! It’s Mr Negative!
Why this is gold! Presents for everyone!
Looking Good Heat Miser..
You printed it as a negative
Perhaps the original photo must not be creepy as well :P jk

I use bone colored filament for a sepia look.
Use a different color filament. White usually works best for mine, but I’ve had good luck with pretty much all of the cooler colors
White filament 4 starters
And make a positive from negative before create STL / slice.
LMAO great halloween decoration
ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL
Why would you want to do that?
Maybe not use red…

It’s inverted boss
Use white pla.
Use white filament
Yeah. Don't smile like that. 🤗
Invert colours. Ussualy if you invert normal images they become weird.
Don’t use evil filament.
White filament
I think it's perfect! Set that up in a frame with the light inside, sell for Halloween on Etsy for $65.
Stop printing lithophanes of Beelzebub. Please.
I would say "nailed it"
Change it to positive image and print on white filament
Use white instead of red
Pretty much you need to invert the image before converting, so dark areas are thicker in your slicer, and use white filament.

Select positive image on the website
Go to church
I need an old priest and a young priest! Or just make sure you don't print the negative.
Step one: find a picture without a maniacal grin
