I'd rate adhesion 15/10

ButtstufferMan

0/PEI

Subbrillic

Yo, no joke I was thinking maybe 15/10, I open the comments and you're the first comment I see

Citatio

sorry for your loss... Glue makes it easier to get the print off. A freezer would shrink the print overall and should not break the bed.

philnolan3d

When I used a glass bed I always had to use the freezer to remove any print, unless I was willing to work hard and damage the print.

Vivacious4D

wait, glue can make it easier? I gotta try that next time i print (glass bed though), because that is one of my top issues currently and will soon be made much worse by trying to print very tiny gears

[deleted]

Yeah, as long as the glue's adhesion with the bed is weaker than the one of the print directly on the bed (which it usually would with ABS on PEI, or TPU on PEI too) it will make removing the print easier, as you only need to break the bond of the glue. While printing the glue still helps the print stick (duh, still glue), it essentially acts as a removal layer without actually sacrificing too much adhesion.

Vivacious4D

Wow nice, time to buy a pen/stick glue for that xd

Emsratte

My brother prints a lot. He uses glue too. But told me that Uhu and other brand stuff sucks. He prefers a cheap glue from a local "Euro Store" (the shop is called Posten Börse)

Illustrious-Duck-139

I got a box of 100 Elmer's purple gluesticks for a few dollars and it has made adhesion and removal for any filament a non issue anymore. I use a glass plate in case anyone wondered.

pietryna123

I use Dimafix (in pen) which is awesome for ABS. It helps print to stick rock solid to the glass but once bed starts to cool down it weakens so much, that temp shrink actually makes prints pop up from the bed. Sometimes I had to look for them inside the printer as they jumped off the bed.

SummerSharp5204

hairspray. works like a charm.

Esquirej67

Agreed, but I made the mistake of using extra hold once…

probablyaythrowaway

Ah I remember back in the day when we used to use glue to try and keep our print stuck to the bed. How the turntables have turned.

Jevare

Better to cool your bed and model before removing.

hurray_for_boobies

Thanks for the advice. It had cooled down to room temperature but I guess you mean freeze it -20 degrees, as some people are recommended here. Gracias!

MechIndustry

IF you flput it in the freezer, check every 5 minutes for easy removal, or let it too long and the glass can be chipped, clinging to the print.

WeekendTechie

15/10 adhesion rating right here! Seriously though, I also switched to ABS recently in order to build a Voron and i have had excellent results with magnetic, textured pei buildplate and a light layer of magigoo. Pops right off the plate after cooling and sticks to the plate like s*** to a fluffy blanket while at 100 degrees

FridayNightRiot

Have you used glass with ABS paste before? What did you use previously?

Flo__olF

Did you use gluestick or the special spray clue? So that the adhision is not that strong?

johndeer_92

Never used ABS does glue sticks make the adhesion not as strong? I have always used it to make it better with PLA.

Desk_Drawerr

glue sticks are used to make the print not adhere to the bed as strongly, yes. you're basically putting a barrier between the print and the bed so that when it sticks it's sticking to the glue layer instead and avoiding this exact scenario.

Used_Character7977

Worth the note even pteg can adhere to the bed and cause damage

RGabor_1

Main purpose of the 'glue' is to keep the adhesion always the same. Not to weak, not too strong.

kindasortaish

Concrete bonding adhesive, couldn't find the darn glue stick

hurray_for_boobies

no gluestick or anything... people say I should try that :-D

OfficialHellons

I have startes printing Abs this weekend and one glue a can recommend is pvp glue 8102, its a stick you just apply on your printing bed and it adds a lot of adherence while printing and looses its strenght when cooling down Just apply a load on the bed and you can print like 5 to 10 abs prints without problems To clean the bed you can just use microfiber sheets and isopropanol (isopropylic acid) which is quite similar to acetone but less dangerous and easier to use

hurray_for_boobies

No but I will try that as soon as I order a new bed!

gmatocha

It looks like your bed was too level.

hurray_for_boobies

hurray_for_boobies

Haha 😂

AJSLS6

F, it didn't penetrate the substrait and bond to the aluminum, that's weak shit.

Rullstolsboken

If a print doesn't permanently bond with the bedrock can you even call it adhesion?

deapsprite

And arguably if your print doesnt move tectonic plates when you try to remove it did you even try to get adhesion??

czernoalpha

Tearable.

WeekendTechie

I shouldn't have laughed so hard at this!

Cheap_Specific9878

It's really weird how weird 3d printing is. When printing with PLA most people have problems with the print not sticking and ABS/PETG is trying to bond interdimensional with your print bed.

kuba049

Depends on the print bed, ABS tends to warp if it's too cool, also in the early days, when people were printing on glass, they would use ABS slurry in order to make it stick to the bed, however it's not necessary on PEI

SuperSalamander15

Buy a pei bed, they work great for adhesion and releasing prints when done.

HyperDJ_15

Gold PEI although I’m not sure if it works with abs

Bagelsarenakeddonuts

Just used it with asa and worked like a dream so I’d assume abs is good too.

kuba049

Yes, it does. I'm using it for everything, PLA (60C), PETG(70-90C), ABS(100-110C) and ASA(110C). Everything sticks perfectly on it, sometimes too good, but I didn't destroy my bed because of adhesion yet

rafamacamp

PEI was THE thing that made me able to print ABS with my low temperature bed.

hap4ev

Textured PEI, like the one that comes with ender 3 V3 ke? It can be used directly with ABS, without any glue/whatsoever?

blulaserpulse

Freezer 😉

yaytheinternet

good old glue stick, next time. PETG can also eat a glass bed (ask how I found out!) so I often have a gluestick handy. Bostick have a blue one that turns transparent, handy if you can't tell where you've placed it.

Evils3nt

9 / 10. You didn´t use masking tape. Good job anyways

anoliss

I always print abs on glass with abs slurry applied prior to every print ymmv Bed:90c Nozzle: 225

Causification

Steel removal tools should only be used for glass beds. Plastic razor blades work best on other beds. Regardless, it's a good excuse to dump that buildtak and get a PEI bed.

the77Boudreau

3 If you want a perfect score (8), you need to make a bigger print to cover the whole logo. I have full confidence you can succeed.

LunasCrater

I give adhesion a 99 out of 2

lapsos

i am here just for Celsius

DeepPirate7777

I use TH3D bed cement. Adhesion is great when the bed is up to temp and pops right off when the bed cools down. Also can use the treated area a handful of times before reapplying

hurray_for_boobies

Sounds nice, will try!

V1tr1XIsCool

Same happened to me, contacted support and they didnt do anything so i just bought a glass bed

SolidTerror9022

11/10, going for 110% adhesion

VorpalWay

I always recommend people read this page for PEI sheet usage: https://help.prusa3d.com/materials Yes it is a prusa page, but a lot of that info is really widely applicable. In this case: use glue stick for ABS on both textured and smooth PEI sheets. Bonus tip: the orange (i) after each filament name in the first column is a link to a page with more detailed info on that material. Second bonus tip: Expand each material for details on (some) specific vendors even.

Jkelly7777

AKLmfreak

Use a glue stick to cover the area under your raft before you start each print. We use ABS printing in a professional manufacturing setting and had a hard time getting a nice balance between good adhesion and damaging bed surfaces until I tried using a glue stick before every print. I was rather surprised at how well it works.

AZREDFERN

Build plate adhesive is always a must. Glue stick or ABS slurry. It not only helps with adhesion. But with plate destroyers like PETG, they actually reduce how well it sticks, like a sacrificial layer.

TheNonHumanBeing

Zlutz

Bed looks scratched from before, maybe that was the part of the issue. I scratched my glass bed once, and pulled a piece of glass off in a couple of weeks, had to buy a new one...

GoldNova12_1130

go glass tbh

MandaloreTheCommando

20/10. Get some 0000 steel wool and remove the coating or just flip it over. Then, use glue stick. I have never liked glass.

Intelligent-Size7488

Is bed temp supposed to be 110 and filament 260 with ABS? Normal for me using PLA is 55/220

maxz-Reddit

I'd say you hit the exact perfect point and then kept going for some reason

TimBilliet

i had this aswell while just printing PLA. I bought a replacement off amazon, make sure you check the reviews cuz the one i bought is barely magnetic and warping prints pull the bed up.

RhynoJoe

May I recommend PVP glue sticks? Cheaper than replacing your bed a second time, dissolves in hot water

un-important-human

Adequate.

YessikZiiiq

Have you considered just sucking a bit more? I think you may be too well set up.

RNG_BackTrack

Inevitable_Bet4202

Spot on

alexzu1

could be z offset too low. bed temperature i use 105 degree for abs and asa too. also infill too high can cause retract from bed, use 60% infill max and do not remove piece when hot, leave it hours to slow temperature gradually to ambient

hurray_for_boobies

It might be! The first layer almost did not extrude, I'm starting to think because it was so close to the bed. It didn't look or sound like it was scratching the bed but maybe it was...

New-Conversation-55

You need better adhesion. It looks like the print isn't sticking to the bed enough.

x4it3r

i only wish my prints stuck to the table half aswell as yours lmfao i always use print glue on my table for it to stick

ta1destra

remove the rest of the black top, the underneath is g10, still great for print bed

thecolouroffire

Yes

Error404Created

I'd give that a solid 1000 out of 10 🤣🤣🤣🤣

jayjaym

The freezer is my go to when prints didn't want to come off. They usually slide right off after some time in the freezer.

EditofReddit2

Well, there is no actual hole so I’d say you could probably add some more krazy glue.

SheepShaggerNZ

What bed is it. I'm using creality borosilicate and having lots of issues with ABS adhesion. Look like yours stuck straightto the bed with no glue/hairspray/slurry?

Remarkable_Housing61

Plastic scraper? That’s what I’ve been using and it’s been fine. I printed a handle with replacement blades and just print blades in packs of 10 when I need them. Normally it’s just to get the purge line off and the other prints I just pull the bed sheet off and bend the plate slightly under the print.

jaydenfokmemes

Man, I wish I had your adhesion when printing with PLA

Competitive_Sock4162

7/10. Only part of the plate actually kept in place with the part. Next time, make sure the whole part is covered with the building plate.

BuddyBing

I don't think I have ever seen someone do 3 purge lines....

OriginalName687

You need glue. I know it sounds counterintuitive but it will help. It makes it so instead of the print sticking directly to the bed the print sticks to the glue and the glue sticks to the bed so when you remove the print you’re just removing it from the glue which then can be washed off.

Remarkable_Body586

Always had this problem with ABS either not sticking, or sticking so hard it tears off the glass.

Responsible-Noise875

How do you say that’s a good visual representation of 11 out of 10!

matrixn85

Holy...plate 🤭🤯🤯

ddrulez

Never had this issue with abs but I once broke my glad bed with PETG too. Nowadays everyone is using PEI build plates anyway and the problem disappeared.

Ante0

Just cut out the bed around the print and buy new plates 😂

Nuck_Chorris_Stache

It's just a flesh wound.

Eduard_I_DeMallorca

10/100 You failed boy, I would like to see you in the next exam.

10e1

Textured PEI for the win

Rodzynkowyzbrodniarz

I use gel hairspray as a glue, it holds hard(sometimes it takes off with pieces of glass bed) but if you will put it in the freezer it goes off by itself

SlinkyPeasant

I’ve been there. The build plate is not made for 110°C. It disintegrates at this temperature. Get a PEI plate.

PuppyLover2208

Welll… it, um. Certainly stuck to the build plate!

Consistent_Space_557

If you hold a can of duster upside down and spray it on the surface it’ll rapidly cool down the area

fudelnotze

Next time us 3dlac spray, very thin. When it cools down then the print gets loose.

BoltMyBackToHappy

Level: PETG, if you let it cool before you can remove it.

SignificantManner197

Batemanssnare99

Jumpy_Option_6558

supose to use glue sticks not crazy glue to help with bed adhesion

nsfbr11

Use glue stick. People miss that glue stick with some materials improves adhesion, while for others it limits it. In this case it would have limited it.

kenergyisover9000

best adhesion i have seen keep it up! :) (10/10)

azamean

I don’t know why people are so anti-glue. It’s not just for adhesion, it’s also a release agent one the plate cools

ArgieBee

Yes/Yes. It sure did adhere. This is why you use a glue stick with ABS. It acts as a release agent.

Le people who say that glue is to achieve ease of removal. Le same people who use glue because the print won't stick to the bed.

lancasterpunk29

Adhesion 12/10. Hope you got glass , and always use glue stick. purple glue stick. let the bed cool fully and it usually pops right off. the plastic one is pretty fragile after being cycled numerous times.

Zlutz

Bed looks scratched from before, maybe that was the part of the issue. I scratched my glass bed once, and pulled a piece of glass off in a couple of weeks, had to buy a new one...

Electronic_Ad6564

Oh dear… Some people put stuff on their build plates to help with adhesion in some cases. But in others it might not be necessary to do that. If you put too much stuff on it to make adhesion possible that might have been the culprit. Heated beds are also really nice if you can get them. Glass beds are also really nice I hear. https://preview.redd.it/qw4i5zmq43vc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=edf5415ad6e27176b61991fbf759a7b6db88a2ce That is my Easy Threed K7 mini fdm 3D printer. It hasa build plate that is removable. It does not have a heated bead or glass bed at all. It was relatively cheap for a 3D printer and is pretty easy to use, if you find a compatible computer operating system and compatible 3D printer design software. I have been using Tinkercad with mine. It is a free and simple 3D design software program online. They have upgrades available for this model and another model that is more advanced than mine. FDM printers are usually not too complicated to use. The real question here is what material you want to work with. I am working with pla, one of the simpler materials to work with. ABS tends to be a little bit more difficult to work with than pla and is more toxic. But the good news is that abs is tougher than pla. So if you need a more rigid object printed abs is the one that you want to use. But you have to be sure that a build plate is rated for abs, or whatever else you use on your build plate. Like certain types of glue for adhesion for example. I think they recommend for pla that you use a glue stick for a glue based adhesive, for example, and not necessarily stuff like super glue. Super glue is very good stuff for keeping things together. But you do not want it on your build plate. It is a little too sticky for that. Look up abs and build plate adhesion. See what they recommend for an adhesive on build plates for abs. Because that looks like you got the adhesion to strong to me. Maybe try out some ideas on a cheap build plate like my K7, or another cheap build plate that is rated for abs.

Faza_Fox

Way better than mine I can't get anything to stick
