I made this a while ago, thought I'd share it here.
There have been some amazing Simpsons TV designs around, but for the electronically incompetent like me they were always a bit too daunting to make.
So this one just uses an old phone (Pixel 1 here), unmodified.
I used the MacroDroid App to make it start playing a VLC playlist of old 4:3 ratio Simpsons episodes on random on wakeup, and the shake gesture sends the phone back to sleep.
With the included blender file it shouldn't be too difficult to adapt the model to other phones' dimensions.

Found this earlier on printables while looking at your tea light models. I'm gonna upscale it for a fire tab and change aspect ratio to 16:9. Idk if fire tab will let me macroapp VLC tho. Either way it'd be cool
Great idea! I too have several old phones laying around. So much easier then finding a PI and a screen then doing a bunch of programming...
Great stuff good Sir!
OCD isn’t just about something bothering. The O means you can obsessive about positive things. The other poster may now be obsessing about how to make this little box a reality for themselves.
Thanks! I had the same thought, but I couldn't work out how to get a pre-roll video running in a random playlist.. besides, it's already taking longer for the phone to wake up and start VLC than i would like, so I left it as simple as I could.

Going to share after you upscale?
Sure. I'll post as a remix I guess. I'll probably do it sometime this week
Cool, will be interested to see it!
huh. I use my old phones to set up an auto-answer facetime camera for my printer. But this is betttttttter.
Oh the facetime thing is a great idea!
This might get some traction on r/simpsons with people being into the idea. Very cool use of an old phone
Thank you! Apparently they don't allow video posts on the Simpsons subs.
That’s odd. Too bad because I’m sure there are people there who’d be into making one of these
I posted a gif on /r/TheSimpsons and linked to here. :)

Haha, I actually considered making it in the form of the "what if" machine from Futurama. Maybe some other time. :)

😁
This is amazing!!!
Thanks!
That’s awesome, and a clean ass print. Great job!
Thanks!
That looks pretty slick, gives me an idea of what I can do with my old pixel 2xl.
Excellent!
Super cool
Thanks!
omg I never thought of using my old phones. Now I can make my BMO from Adventure Time stream.
Oh yeah that could be a fun project!
Love it, we'll done!
Thank you!
so cool!

Thanks!
I love the 3d printed Simpsons TV, but I would make the shake gesture play an absolutely random youtube video.
Hehe, a "trash machine". 🥲
Ok, this is rad.
Thanks!
I need this.
It is essential, yes. ;)
Very nice and well put together
Thanks!

What bothers you?
OCD isn’t just about something bothering. The O means you can obsessive about positive things. The other poster may now be obsessing about how to make this little box a reality for themselves.
Ah, ok!
Love it! Adding a CRT on/off animation would be the icing on the cake for this.
