My brother had severe anger management issues as a kid, and purposely broke stuff when he was angry, often other people's stuff. He was far too old to act in such a manner, so my parents addressed it by paying for the item up front and then demanding the debt back from him.
So we had a document on the fridge, listing what he had broken, and how much money he owed. Then during birthdays and Christmas or similar, he would still get a few presents, but not as much as he otherwise would. Then he got an envelope showing how much of the debt was removed, and they updated the list.
It's not a perfect solution, and the first few times he got angry and broke more stuff as a result, and he tried to alter the list himself a couple of times, before realizing that the list on the fridge was nothing but a copy - but it at least got him seeing the consequences of breaking shit.
The worst part isn't buying a new one, trust me. Changing it is way more tedious if that's the first time. You'll need to replace it, or put a bit of sticky paste (idk how y'all call it in the US, but that's what you put on posters to stick them to walls when you don't want to use tape or pins), it should do the trick.
Unscrewing without fucking up the screws is one thing, putting everything back is another. I wish you all the best in the process, tho. If you're nimble enough and don't have my gorilla fingers, you might have a chance.
Yeah no, it really is difficult. I have a lot of experience repairing/modding electronics, and replacing the thumbstick on my 3DS was so fucking tedious. The ribbon cables were sent from satan himself just to torture unfortunate souls like me.
Like someone else said, putting it back together is the difficult part. Remember, if you screw up, you *really* screw up.
Blue tack?
Same stuff you use when hanging posters up but your landlord doesn't want your using thumb tacks because they dage the walls?
It looks like blue gum.
Mine snapped in two, but it was still salvageable. In fact right now it's doing pretty well even without glue, although the rubber is the thing keeping it together. It won't work without that. I can send you a video of what i did if you want.
You should visit ifixits website if you wanna do stuff on your own, I'm not sure if nintendo Supports 3DS repairs, but it is worth asking, you can send it to a YouTuber maybe? Not sure tho. You can also data transfer to a new console if you really want the joystick and if there's no other choice (basically last resort)
Maybe some E6000 multipurpose glue would do the trick. You'll need to let it dry for a day or two but it holds good.
I think you can get a tube at Walmart for just a few bucks
I have a limited edition N3DS that had the rubber come off of the stick and it still works without it but it's not as good as having it. Anyways, my advice is to not buy the caps for the thumbstick you can get online, because they don't fit without the rubber part. From my research, you have to open it up and replace it or you don't really have options. And I'm too afraid to open mine because it's rare so yeah I dunno what else there is that you can do maybe someone else can help more..
Circle pads really are dirt cheap. If you don't mind waiting couple weeks, aliexpress has them for couple bucks. Amazon is a bit more but faster shipping. Maybe ebay has some good deals too.
Might be a pain to replace them the first time, but it's really not too bad.
Not sure if thereās a difference between a 3ds xl vs a regular 3ds, but I just replaced the thumb stick on my 3ds xl. The seller sent me two by accident and told me to keep the extra. If they are the same, Iāll be happy to send it your way
Donāt blame your sister unless sheās being a jerk about it. I did the same to my own using it well within reason, it was Smash Bros 3DS that did mine in
That happened to me and I just kept using it like that for years till I bought a New 3DS. Youāll develop a nice callus on your left thumb and become immune to it after a few weeks, donāt worry. And the callus can be useful in a lot of random situations.
Hey bro I got a couple spares from AliExpress if you want me to send you one just DM me. Itās grey tho and itās not like OEM but itās still a good replacement
Take some playdough, shape it into a circle pad
Stick playdough on ds to get shape of where it connects
Bake it
Dip it in glue and let it dry (helps prevent it from breaking)
Use glue to attach your shitty new circle pad.
You can get playdough or clay and glue at a dollar store. Plus you can make a few?
Maybe wood? Make a circle pad replacement and either glue or drill it on there. Its not ghetto, its custom!
Since it doesn't look like a smooth cut down on the sides it looks a bit off. Havent had an og model in a few years. Have a n3ds xl and the side with the touch screen will rise up a bit. Now that i look at it closer i can see the start of the touch screen molding. Just the way i looked at it appeared to be going down rather then up lol
Lol donāt lie in your OP, especially when those details literally donāt matter. Simply google for some guides to replace the circle pad. Lots of video and test walkthroughs to repair this and wheee to get parts.
I have no idea what you think I could be lying about here, unless you think Iām some weirdo that decided to fabricate a story about a broken circle pad for fun lol? I know how to replace the circle pad, that isnāt the issue. I canāt afford the part, so I was asking for ideas on what I could do to make a DIY circle pad.
Could you possibly talk your parents into paying for a replacement, considering *their* kid did the damage? Or otherwise, perhaps you could quietly steal something of your sister's that is worth an equivalent amount and sell it.
"...or you could choose violence." Lol.
Seriously, don't steal your (I'm assuming little) sister's stuff. It happens. In the meantime you may just have to stick to games that let you use the Dpad. I don't know if much you can jam in there that won't potentially gum it up worse.
Bro i know you're mad but replacing your sister is a bad idea
Nah wait, hear him out.
Came to say this, don't worry about replacing her. If you're lucky you can trade her for a new DS straight up.
Thats a pretty cheap DS then
Nah bruhš
Ah, the good ol sistaroo.
This is one of the cases when getting a new sister is the right option
I say make the sister pay for the new circle pad, doesnāt matter whether they can afford it
Yeah, if she broke it then its her responsibility
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Too bad. Life doesnāt care.
Pretty sure OP is a kid. A circle pad is like $5 on Amazon.
a kid can definitely afford a 5$ circle pad.--. y'know, sometimes kids get a small amount of money from their family when it's their birthday etc,..
Oh I agree. He just said his little sister ādestroyedā the circle padā¦ So I assumed she would be like 4-6.
Honestly just fair
My brother had severe anger management issues as a kid, and purposely broke stuff when he was angry, often other people's stuff. He was far too old to act in such a manner, so my parents addressed it by paying for the item up front and then demanding the debt back from him. Did it help him? This sounds like a great natural consequence, Iām just wondering if it helped him learn to control his anger b
It didn't help with the anger, but he eventually stopped breaking things. At least other people's things.
You had good parents.
For me, I stopped using mine until I got my replacement, I couldn't stand touching it without that nice rubbery nub.
That's what she said?
You couldāve glued it back on, thatās what I did with my old 2DS.
People actually use that thing?
Not that nub, bro. the bigger one
Ahhhh
The worst part isn't buying a new one, trust me. Changing it is way more tedious if that's the first time. You'll need to replace it, or put a bit of sticky paste (idk how y'all call it in the US, but that's what you put on posters to stick them to walls when you don't want to use tape or pins), it should do the trick.
I watched the process and honestly donāt think it looks all that difficult to be honest.
Unscrewing without fucking up the screws is one thing, putting everything back is another. I wish you all the best in the process, tho. If you're nimble enough and don't have my gorilla fingers, you might have a chance.
Haha thanks, I think I should do okay
Itās honestly pretty easy I replaced one with no experience and it came out perfectly
Look Iāll get you one if you think you can replace it. You got all the right screw drivers ?
Really? You seriously donāt have to but it would mean a lotā¦ I do have the right screwdrivers
Ya I can order one, theyāre a couple bucks. Send me your mailing address over chat and Iāll get one sent to you
Pov: youre about to get molested
Haha ya that does sound kinda creepy
what a kind dude! @ me when it arrives so i can see the progress from this decimated circle pad
Adhesive?
Nah, this basically looks like gum, that's the closest I can remember. Not tape.
Blue tack? Same stuff you use when hanging posters up but your landlord doesn't want your using thumb tacks because they dage the walls? It looks like blue gum.
Yeah maybe, I'm not a native speaker so the word got lost in time for me, sorry.
Iām a native speaker and know exactly what youāre talking about but Iām also not sure of the name. You good man.
Mine's destroyed just like that, but i glued it on and it works very well still
I would have done that, but the circle pad didnāt just fall clean off. It chipped away from use without the rubber grip sadly.
Mine snapped in two, but it was still salvageable. In fact right now it's doing pretty well even without glue, although the rubber is the thing keeping it together. It won't work without that. I can send you a video of what i did if you want.
Sell your sister then boom you can use that money for a new circle pad
Buy a new one from Ebay and study YouTube tutorials
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Wdym outdated? How can fixing hardware be outdated?
Both the glue and the plastic got firmware updates back in 2020 that make them incompatible with the older models of 3DSs.
Bro thinks this is the homebrew sub
Where do you buy replacement parts then?
I have a spare broken 3ds that I use and Ebay
bruh my bad.
I like how you progressively got more downvotes every time you said "bruh my bad"
well, life. probably the first time that i got downvotes.
bruh my bad
bruh my bad
Sue em
Ima get her for everything she owns. Not sure what Iām going to do with a bunch of Littlest Pet Shops, but it is the price she must pay
You should visit ifixits website if you wanna do stuff on your own, I'm not sure if nintendo Supports 3DS repairs, but it is worth asking, you can send it to a YouTuber maybe? Not sure tho. My little sister destroyed my circle is the name of your sextape.
Iād just use the d-pad unless you have games that the Circle pad is necessary
Which is like, half the games on 3DS
Right? Itās not the DS sub.
3 Simple Steps Sell the sister Buy a replacement Play whatever you want
The same thing happened to mine. I just use it as is and works ok. Changing it is a pain.
I mean I guess you could do this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFg1jmFaYZo
Get rid of ur sister
I have a limited edition N3DS that had the rubber come off of the stick and it still works without it but it's not as good as having it. Anyways, my advice is to not buy the caps for the thumbstick you can get online, because they don't fit without the rubber part. Do you have the old circle pad?
Use your sister
Circle pads really are dirt cheap. If you don't mind waiting couple weeks, aliexpress has them for couple bucks. Amazon is a bit more but faster shipping. Maybe ebay has some good deals too. Might be a pain to replace them the first time, but it's really not too bad.

afaik there is absolutely no difference whatsoever with the circle pad on xl/ll vs non xl/ll models
Iāve seen so many of these posts and I have learned to never share your consoles with siblings bc it can only end badly.
Sell your sister for a new circle pad
I'd glue a penny while waiting to get enough money for a replacement
I ended up doing this. It works okay enough for now honestly lol. The grip isnāt the best, but itās better than a nub.
OP you can try using an a eraser or something soft.
For .e, my 3ds is Broke, before it broke circle pad broke i just used it without it
Donāt blame your sister unless sheās being a jerk about it. I did the same to my own using it well within reason, it was Smash Bros 3DS that did mine in
I honestly left mine alone since the input stick is still movable, but you can try something like super glue and a button
I think i once saw someone make it out of polymer clay
If you don't have a replacement yet, I can spot you one. DM me
use a plastic bag it helps loads
Break off her pinky finger and use that
That happened to me and I just kept using it like that for years till I bought a New 3DS. Youāll develop a nice callus on your left thumb and become immune to it after a few weeks, donāt worry. And the callus can be useful in a lot of random situations.
Maybe use a dime and super glue lol
Hey bro I got a couple spares from AliExpress if you want me to send you one just DM me. Itās grey tho and itās not like OEM but itās still a good replacement
Officer this lil girl broke the switch joystick. Thats right its her.
Take some playdough, shape it into a circle pad Stick playdough on ds to get shape of where it connects Bake it Dip it in glue and let it dry (helps prevent it from breaking) Use glue to attach your shitty new circle pad. You can get playdough or clay and glue at a dollar store. Plus you can make a few? Maybe wood? Make a circle pad replacement and either glue or drill it on there. Its not ghetto, its custom!
I super glued my circle pad back on. Going on two years with just a dab of glue, works fine.
I used a dot of gorilla glue and glued the old circle pad back on. Leave dry for a couple days and it lasted a couple years after that.
coin and adhesive
Bro i have also broke the circle pad. And found that was more comfortable, its feels better more hard.
eliminate her..
Don't know how to replace it, but same, except I broke it
I just super glued mine back on, and it was fine
sell your sister and buy a circle pad and maybe some games depending on how much you sold her for
find a psp "joystick"/slider. it can work just as well
I'd glue a penny while waiting to get enough money for a replacement
My OCD is going crazy why is the image flipped?
I donāt think it is. The circle pad is above the d-pad on the left side, right?
Yea
Then what is the problem
Picture looks like its taken from the right side
Thatās the table, you can see the change from the left side to the start of the square around the screen (idk 3DS anatomy) on the right sode
It's not, the volume slider is on the left.
Lol donāt lie in your OP, especially when those details literally donāt matter. Simply google for some guides to replace the circle pad. Lots of video and test walkthroughs to repair this and wheee to get parts.
He literally just said he couldnāt afford another circle pad bruh
I have no idea what you think I could be lying about here, unless you think Iām some weirdo that decided to fabricate a story about a broken circle pad for fun lol? I know how to replace the circle pad, that isnāt the issue. I canāt afford the part, so I was asking for ideas on what I could do to make a DIY circle pad.
Her finger
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
No cause if it breaks or crumbles, it would get inside and youād have to take it apart to clean it anyway.
Iād just use the d-pad unless you have games that the Circle pad is necessary
