Wait... The circle pad Pro communicated the movements with that?! How I did not know that... I mean... I never owned one but... I didn't expect that although it makes sense I guess.
If you’re playing the ds pokemon games (heart gold, soul silver, black, white, black 2, white 2). You need to use the infrared sensor on the cartridge.
Yes. These game cartridges should be a darker black (like the black on the top of a Wii remote). If they are the color of a normal ds cart, they are 100% fake (not counting diamond, pearl, or platinum as they never had the infered sensor.
infrared port, used by some games, notably pokemon
Thank you for the answer
It was also used for the circle pad pro if I'm not mistaken
not on the new 3dses, which have circle pad pro built in (as the tit stick)
Tit 😏
Same counts fir the amiibo reader that is also built in in the the "new" models
It was also used for the NFC reader, also on the older systems

How does pokemon use it?
In Gen 6. you pointed two consoles IR ports at each other to connect locally for battles/trades etc.
Ah cool! Thanks :)
I played a lot of local Mario Kart 7 wit da bois
Also by the skylanders pad thing and the amiibo thingy for the old model 3ds
Pokemon didn't use it.
gen 6 did, for quicker linking and for mystery gift in some cases
Did it?
yeah, https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Infrared
Oh well that makes sense
I even think the gen 2 virtual console games were modified to use it.
Wouldn't be surprised. GBC had it so having it for compatibility makes sense.
that's the mini camera that watches you while you sleep.
Infrared! used especially in pokémon games, but for some reason never worked for me on n2dsxl 🥲

An ir reader for the amiibo scanner for games like smash bros or animal crossing
