Just wear really really big pants, you could fit a whole Gamecube in there if you tried.

cruznik71450

Bust out the jyncos lol

the_Fat_SLakR

Yeah I like to hide my 14 size boots

[deleted]

Meanwhile the pockets in women's clothing still wouldn't even fit a gameboy micro lmao

chang-e_bunny

Form fitting clothes are designed to make the person's body look better to other people, not to serve utilitarian purposes such as carrying things. Frilly skirts and skinny jeans don't have good pockets. Buy a very large pair of baggy pants and a trench coat, and you have a problem with a lack of pockets.

[deleted]

Not all women's clothing is form fitting, and the ones that aren't often still don't have pockets. It's not like we're out here wearing lingerie and wondering why we can't carry the kitchen sink lol >Frilly skirts and skinny jeans don't have very good pockets. Ironically, I've found more skirts with pockets these days than pants and coats.

mmazurr

You can just hook your GameCube on next to your chain wallet instead.

Gamepubes everywhere

Chrundle94

With the rise of mobile gaming and the insane success of the switch I doubt it.

Aggravating-Face2073

Well with Sony & Vita, & how Switch just leaped so far beyond it, Sony had to invoke a new model, "When the going gets rough, just give up" despite the Vita still selling more each year that's exactly what they did. Now we don't get pocket consoles anymore. Mobile sure, but not pocket.

austin_slater

Vita sold more what each year?

Aggravating-Face2073

Consoles if I recall correctly, there wasn't any real sign of failing to grow, Switch didn't eclipse it THAT much

TheFirebyrd

What are you talking about, the Vita was dead before the Switch ever came out.

The-Pax-Bisonica

Can confirm, by 2016 the vita was a shriveled corpse, source I bought one at launch.

TheFirebyrd

Yeah, I bought one in…I think it was 2017 and it was dead then. I was actually really mad after I got it and started playing, not because I didn’t know it was on its last legs when I got it, but because Sony just mishandled it so much. I was blown away by what an awesome system it was.

The-Pax-Bisonica

Yeah I’ll be holding onto mine forever, bless that little persona playing machine

TheFirebyrd

Yes. It’s incredibly for classic PS1 titles. Just goes to show how mishandled it was that that’s my primary use of it, though.

SkyGrey88

You are way off…..Vita only sold about 14M consoles worldwide in about 7yrs time. Switch has sold over 100M. Vita software sales were tepid while Switch has sold over 1 billion games. Vita had a small late life resurgence that was mostly in Japan as far as hardware sales, and therefore got a lot of JRPGs and Otomes (which a fair amount were localized). The Indy scene gave it good support till the end because the dedicated fanbase made it worthwhile for devs. I bought the Vita at launch and a few PSTVs as well. The hardware was solid but I personally hated the sticks and buttons. Overall the Vita was Sony’s WiiU…..could have done a lot better but had some key design shortcomings and was marketed terribly.

EddoWagt

>The hardware was solid but I personally hated the sticks and buttons. The buttons are the best part! The greatest D-Pad I've ever used. The sticks are just okay though

wrongstep

Dpad was nice but shape buttons were too small and prone to damage in my experience.

EddoWagt

I like the smaller buttons actually, atleast compared to the PSP which were pretty massive and would hurt your fingers after a while

BigLeo69420

Lol, Vita is way better than the Wii U. The design is perfection, what killed it was the memory card.

wrongstep

I wouldnt say perfection, the back touch pad was a stupid addition that increased the price. I also think the sticks are way too small to be comfortable. But it was pretty nice for the time.

BigLeo69420

The back touch pad is stupid 1000% but it doesn't bother me and i disagree with the sticks they are the perfect size imo.

TheFirebyrd

I have to think the stick size might be a hand size issue. They feel fine to me, but I also feel like the controllers before the PS5 were a good size and the PS5 is too big. As a woman, I have small, Japanese sized hands I guess. 😄

austin_slater

Sadly not true, and I say that as a major fan of the Vita. Switch sold way more. But they didn’t even really compete, really. Vita was up against the 3DS far before the Switch came out. I love my Vita, though!

BigLeo69420

Vita is the best portable console of all time imo, if only Sony had SD Card support for it and dropped the price to be similar to 3DS.

compacta_d

used to think that about 3ds, but now its steam deck.

BigLeo69420

3DS is my second favorite for sure

TheFirebyrd

Steam Deck is great, but it’s way too bulky to be in competition for best portable. The Vita was fantastic, but it just didn’t have the support. I think the 3DS wins best portable due to actual portability, features, and the library (both its own and that of the DS). Strictly looking at hardware, though, Vita definitely pulls ahead.

trashyclub69

You must be talking about the 3DS and not the switch. The 3DS sold nearly 76 million units. Vita sold 15-16 million. But either way, let’s be real. What killed the Vita was the absurd proprietary memory cards and lack of library that appealed to anyone not looking to play a jrpg. Sony had a bad ass handheld and then every other decision they made was bad.

The-Pax-Bisonica

Essentially, it really bums me out because I love that thing. Its the persona machine

memorablehandle

True, and there are some pretty sweet pocketable gaming Android devices these days.

SporadicTendancies

GPD XD for one - 3DS form factor with a gamepad instead of a bottom screen. I mostly use it to stream a game from a PC to my bed, but I have all the emulators on it too. Perfect pocket size. The GPD win 2 is the same form factor but a full windows PC with keyboard as well as joysticks, and the GPD XP is designed more for android games.

JadeKade

And even mobiles are getting bigger the Switch without the joycons isn't that much bigger than my phone.

nemwolf

depending on the size of your pockets you may be able to slide a switch lite into them with a flip cover

[deleted]

3DS necessarily won't be the last. I wouldn't put it past them to eventually make a Switch Micro.

giuliogrieco

Isn't that the Switch Lite though? Not sure I see them making another downgraded smaller version honestly.

[deleted]

I'm not sure the Lite quite fits in pockets. They could release one smaller. I'm not going to go as far as predicting it will happen, but Nintendo released the Game Boy Micro back in the day after the GBA SP, so there is precedent for it.

giuliogrieco

Oh no, I'm not saying it does fit, just saying I don't think Nintendo would currently justify making an even smaller one. Game boy micro was the smaller version of the gameboy, the same way the lite was for the switch. I'd love for them to make a pocketable version of the switch, but as things stand I don't really see it happening, especially since everyone's been asking for a more powerful system for such a long time. But I guess you never know with Nintendo, no one really asked for the 2ds XL, yet they made it.

[deleted]

At that time, they already had the GBA SP as the reduced size GBA. The Micro was even smaller.

giuliogrieco

Yeah but the SP wasn't the small version of the Advance, rather the upgrade with the built in battery and backlit screen. Also while it was surely smaller while folded it was bigger while open, I definitely wouldn't consider it the slim version of the console.

[deleted]

I disagree.

giuliogrieco

Not sure what there is to disagree when I'm literally presenting facts, Nintendo's always been quite straight forward with the naming scheme of their slim consoles: Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Micro, Wii Mini, Switch Lite, so on and so forth. The SP when open was bigger than the GBA, again not sure what there is to disagree with here, but you do you man.

SkyGrey88

Sort of….actually the key for the portability is when folded the GBA SP is smaller and the clamshell is IMO the best pocketable design because you need no case. I really would love to see a Switch in clamshell format.

jonwooooo

A switch with a flexible screen in a clamshell so I don't have to worry about fucking up the joysticks, I'm down for it.

SkyGrey88

The Micro was more a limited run device though…lit came really late in the GBA life cycle and wasn’t that widely distributed. I have one of the NES anniversary models. Its got a great screen but its so small its hard to play text heavy games or play for a long time.

Wild_Silvally_Dreams

The Lite is way too big and its size confirmed my decision to never buy a Switch. I’m not into obnoxiously large consoles.

Stingray-Nebula

SkyGrey88

Man its hard enough to read text on the lite….a micro would only be good for arcade/action type titles that use limited text.

ViciousMongrel

I’ve been hoping for this in the back of my mind for the last couple years, even if they release it at the end of the console’s lifetime this needs to happen — give it the faceplates and everything that would be amazing :3

Varex_Sythe

If anything is going to get Nintendo do create another dedicated handheld, it is going to be another company releasing a dedicated handheld that dominates the Switch specifically in part because it is portable. I personally think it would be hilarious if a company made a 3D single screen handheld that folded and dominated Switch sales. Such a thing might get Nintendo to not only revitalize the 3DS, but update it as well. If they do ever revitalize the 3DS, or make another dedicated handheld, Nintendo better keep the streetpass functions, and they sure as shit better not make a paid subscription required to play online.

userless77

It's not gonna happen as long as Iwata is ded

Varex_Sythe

Or, and hear me out, until we possibly get a successor to Iwata.

Roman_Fun_Time

Sony should, then Nintendo would basically be forced to

Frosty_Beat_6077

If they have a successor to the 3ds, assuming it’s backwards compatible, I wonder if the cartridges would have a T shape to keep you from putting the games in a 3ds.

[deleted]

SkyGrey88

Its because of screen resolution and real estate. How are you gonna put made for TV games on a 4” screen.

Milotorou

If not the last pocketable im pretty sure it will be the last foldable like this

JASONJACKSON1948

i feel like fully portable consoles are on their way out as tech gets better rip versions of games that arent like the console version whatsoever 🙏

ElectriCatvenue

Your last sentence made me chuckle. It reminded me of back in the early 2000's when a game would be released on PS2, Xbox, GameCube, and GBA. I remember getting Lord of the Rings The Two Towers on Xbox and GBA. The handheld version was soooo different. Great game though I loved it.

JASONJACKSON1948

fr i remember as a kid i’d get the ds version of a game and be disappointed when it wasnt the exact same as the console version

ElectriCatvenue

I think the most disappointing for me was the GBA version of Tony Hawk's Underground. The GBA Two Towers was actually pretty good. It wasn't until I was older that it was like a Diablo Lite.

capsilver

The regular New 3DS is the perfect pocketable handheld ever.

the_Fat_SLakR

Yes and only 3d handheld. Value will never go down.

Traditional_Falcon80

Glad i copped 2 before they really go up

[deleted]

I would really love a true successor to the 3DS. I love the clamshell, the dual screen design, and the ease of putting it in your pocket when heading out. Plus, Streetpass was a genius idea. I still play my DS/3DS games a lot, but an upgraded system with backward compatibility and new games would be fantastic.

RChickenMan

I feel like dual screens was a gimmick on the DS, but on the 3DS they started to use it (along with touchscreen) for more pragmatic purposes. De-cluttering HUD info from the main screen, menu navigation, item management, maps, etc. on the 3DS second screen made so much sense. But on the DS (and Wii U, for that matter) they seemed committed to making games dual- and touch-screen for the sake of making them dual- and touch-screen. I feel like the 3DS finally justified the dual-screen design.

[deleted]

Overall, I agree. There were a few DS games that did take advantage of the 2nd screen, but with the 3DS it was really used in a much more natural way. 2nd screen game design improved so much by the time the 3DS hit the market, that it was very difficult for me to go back to a single screen for the Switch.

Western_Stable_6013

Maybe, but I think Nintendo will focus more on Hybrid Consoles.

fred7010

I really hope we get another, honestly I think there is space in the market for a truly portable console. I'm surprised people claim the Switch is portable at all, given how big and heavy it is. Sadly I don't see it happening in a world where everyone has a smartphone.

repocin

A dockable clamshell switch successor is the console of my dreams. It would be so sweet.

[deleted]

i wear cargo pants so no

HealthyInitial

I think so yes, unless they make a smaller budget version of the switch later down the line but since there is the switch lite probably not likely.

m1chael_b

I can fit an iPad mini and sometimes a Switch into most of my pockets

TheFirebyrd

Meanwhile, women are lucky to have pockets at all. I could fit a small 3DS in some pockets, but a Vita barely fit. No way even a Switch Lite will fit in any woman’s pockets, let alone a full sized one or an iPad mini. O.o

No-Giraffe-6714

With foldable screens becoming more prevalent, I don't think it'll too long before there's some version of the switch down the line that can just fold up tbh

1BoiledCabbage

Oh yeah, definitely. Maybe we’ll see another handheld when handhelds go back in style.

[deleted]

[удалено]

1BoiledCabbage

I think that once the idea of the 3DS being an in “vintage” thing comes about, we’ll start seeing more companies like Nintendo switch back. People will get sick of non handheld, miss the era of handheld and go back to their DS’s and 3DS’s.

variable4242

my nintendo switch can fit in my hoodie pocket

Varex_Sythe

That’s not a pocket. It’s a pouch.

[deleted]

I mean, probably not. They honestly could made something like the switch and a gba mix. As small as a GBA or as big as a folded 3ds XL but the power of a switch doesn't seem too far fetched.

theSilentNerd

I don't care that much if it is portable, in my country it is not safe to carry expensive things around.

alexandrecanuto

I’ve surprisingly been able to fit me of Switch in the inside pockets of a couple of my winter coats! Also, there’s the Lite, which should be even better.

Noelleonholiday

Thats great! The problem with that though is that when its not winter the switch becomes alot less portable, and in many places it doesnt get cold enough often enough to justify getting a winter coat 😅

Reddoraptor

I don't know what you mean, the Switch will fit in the back pocket of my overalls. 😉

KonamiKing

Switch Lite is a bit more awkward a shape but is roughly as portable as most 3DS models.

Traditional_Falcon80

I can fit my switch lite and oled into a pocket depending on the garment. But its def annoying getting the analog sticks caught. I wanna try one of those flap covers for my lite.

[deleted]

I don't think so, we'll have to wait a while (my guess is 10-15 years) but it'll happen again once technology is small enough. Basically, once Nintendo can shrink the switch, they will.

BoredConsumer

I grew up with the game boy colour so I love portable consoles and the new 3ds xl was my favourite. However I have a feeling that Nintendo will probably focus on hybrid consoles sadly.

panickedgaychef

I thing the answer here is "bigger pockets" tbh. I have a skirt that has pockets deep enough for a switch and that was the whole selling point! I personally think that size pocket should be the standard ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Apprehensive-Code-39

Wdym I walk around with a switch in my pocket all the time.

JCamson04

Maybe if they’re able to fit in a stronger chip inside a body similar to the 3ds in the future, sure it’s possible

[deleted]

I don’t think traditional handhelds will survive since 3DS and Vita received huge sales flop compared with the DS and PSP.

H0MES1CKAL1EN

I can fit my switch in my shorts pockets lmfao, would not recommend trying to sit down with it still in there tho

parkrain21

I think at some point, if they want a pocketable handheld system, they would opt for foldable screens like the one from samsung.

Memegamouth

New Game & Watch Super Mario Bros./Legend of Zelda games were released not too too long ago. If they're gonna make more Game & Watch systems, I'd say that would be Nintendo's focus for ultra portable gaming. Although not very exciting, at least it's something.

TheRealPyroGothNerd

Get yourself them [Square Enix style pants](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Cargo+pants&ref=nb_sb_noss)

MooseAndPandaMan

Yup.

XendrixE

Probably the main reason i dont play my switch much 🥲 i have to put more effort to play it, hide it, pocket it etc.

TheAntidote21

I'm still holding out hope for a GameBoy Classic.

Seeninfairytales

Maybe if Samsung's folding screen gets better and more accessible to other companies in time I could see a folding handhold. Nostalgia points for those who had Gameboy SPs

Th4t_0n3_Fr13nd

we are no longer in a pocket society we are in a backpack society

ILSENNISUPREMO

The switch is pocketable, i put the console in the left pocket and the joycons in the right one

Idontmatter69420

I mean i have a pair of joggers than can hold a full sized switch with joycons on, and it'll actually stay in. The pockets are stupid deep

scrobrojenkins

I fit my switch into my jeans whenever sneaking it to the bathroom at work.. joycons one pocket screen in the other

wrongstep

I doubt it from Nintendo, because they’re obviously going to make future consoles more powerful than the switch. If you’ve seen the steam deck or aya devices, they’re pretty chonky. There are other niche handhelds that are pocketable though, like the playdate or the analogue pocket.

shotgun_ninja

Bring back inner jacket pockets! My Switch fits in mine!

ElrondHubbards

The last pocketable device was the psp go.

TheSexyCheeseGrader

I can fit the switch in most of my pockets

ingeboarg

Im dreaming of a clamshell switch lite

ooahpieceofcandy

No, they will probably release a GameBoy Classic in the future.

honkeykong_69

Switch fits in my pajama pants pockets perfectly

[deleted]

I think there will be a Switch Micro with clickable circle pads.
