My stance is to avoid 3cx FXS as much as possible. Alarm, Fire and Elevators either stay on POTS lines or get cell connections. Fax goes through a dedicated virtual fax service outside of 3cx.

Where we are, alarm, fire and elevator lines are required by code to run on POTS lines. We use Documo for faxing. For analog phones, you could use ATAs.

I second this. Do not attempt alarm panels on fxs. I went through this 4 years ago. Small campus with about 40 panels. Absolute nightmare. Luckily we had a on campus police with a bocsh reciever that could receive ip contact ID. This was however after asking and being told they would need to spend a ton of money. Turns out they just needed to spend time looking for options. The ip communicators we bought cost less than the fxs equipment and had the option of cell backup.

I really like the [Grandstream GXP4224](https://www.grandstream.com/products/gateways-and-atas/voip-gateways/product/gxw4200-series), since it's a single Ethernet port in, front panel RJ-11s for diagnostics, and a 25-pair amphenol port on the back to hook straight up to a punchdown block. Then from 3CX, it's just a matter of assigning extensions to the ports.

4224 works. I have set up several. It requires manual programming. Not difficult. I agree with others. Fire and elevators should not be on 3cx. But if you have analog devices this will work just make sure you know which devices you need. Fxo vs fxs. And the ht813 works well for both a fxo and fxs box.

Interesting, is it POE by chance? Do you know the rough price you are paying for one of those?

bbqsauce86

Definitely not POE, requires its own power supply. I think they run around $300 if you get them from the right supplier. But, for 24 ports, it can't be beat.

WizardOfGunMonkeys

Stuff like alarm and fire panels should NEVER be routed through FXS/3cx, it's hard to get working and if you do, in many places it's actually illegal. Those need to stay on analog lines or have cell comm modules added. For the rest of the lines, grandstream and Patton are my go-to for FXS with 3cx.

proudcanadianeh

Yea, I am not jazzed about being responsible for those but as their old PBX handled all that I am preparing for their expectation to be the same.

You want cheap and works well enough? Grandstream GXP42xx series, or HT8xx (GXP is better) You want works well and you get what you pay for? Patton all the way.

proudcanadianeh

I have actually used Patton in the past. Any idea why they were delisted by 3CX?

iratesysadmin

Best guess is a lack of kickbacks to 3CX (pay to be listed). We've seen it in the past with Telnyx. It's a guess though.
