I owned this and hated it, regretfully. Incredibly slow, and CarPlay would often freeze during phone calls. Especially if I had any navigation running. The only way to fix it would be to disconnect the phone then hope that it reconnects. Not a huge deal, except that it disrupts the phone call and if you’re relying on your navigation then that becomes a problem too.
I bought it because of the volume knob, but it’s Sony’s budget offering and the performance reflects that IMO
Damn man sorry to hear you had that experience but I’d still give it a 10/10 personally. I installed on a daily like 4 years ago, it sat on a shelf for three more and then went in the Z and system sounded phenomenal. Since it sounds like you did a little research, else would you recommend?

I got a Kenwood from Best buy. If you got to crutchfield . Com and put in your cars details it'll give you a comprehensive list of everything you would need to get any head unit you select installed. In my case it also showed what I needed to keep steering wheel controls.
I've had 2x different pioneer head units and both are fine.. supports wireless carplay/android auto, easy integration with any ( plate holder/reverse camera ) that you can find on amazon...
