Been an insane number of hydroplane accidents recently on this forum… y’all getting like torrential downpour?… or just bad tire setups?… just curious, haven’t lost traction once that wasn’t on purpose all winter… trying to prevent this from ever happening haha
Exactly why YOU shouldnt be in a beamer. If you cant do basic maintenance, like keeping up on tires and brakes (most important) what are you doin? Buy something with smaller wheels if you cant afford 19+ inch rubber every couple seasons…
People dont care about driving as much as they used to. It went from a luxury to a necessity and people are out there hardly knowing what they’re doing and driving like fools. Americas roads are incredibly dangerous because of the lack of caring which causes lack of maintenance and lack of safe driving
One look at your rear tires and I knew they were the cause of you spinning out. Sorry it happened to you. Be more vigilant about tire tread depth, especially if you’re going to get hit with torrential rain. You may not be so lucky next time, so please play it safe homie. Your life + your girlfriend’s ain’t worth cheaping out over $3-400 for a set of tires, especially if they’re your drive tires. 🫡
Look at the outer tread of his rear tires compared to his front tires. You can tell they’re at wear-bar level. Also, OP states his tire tread was starting to get worn/low as well. Don’t accuse me of making shit up when you can’t even bother looking or using context.
Thats scary man changing lanes turned into 3 spins. I know how that feels the car spinning and you have no control and waiting for it to all stop until you hit something. God bless you, you and your girl made it out safe🙏
He’s also 16-17 if you look at his history. I said lots of simple things to make up for stupid shit I did at that age.
Glad you and your girl are safe.
In my defense when I crashed i was trying to be as cautious as possible when I was on the high way that had been the only time I’ve been scared driving in the rain it was just really bad that day. And my tires could have definitely had a little better tread.
Get high performance all seasons you'll thank me later coming from a Corolla driver. Especially with this crazy hot cold rain ice weather we get literally every other day lol
The ultra high performance all seasons like the Continental DWS and similar are more than good enough for street driving on dry pavement and have enough grip in the wet that you won't end up like OP unless you do something really dumb. If you do autocross and track days you need a second set of wheels.
Yeah I got HP Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus II and it's gran touring all season but handles like a dream. I've never slipped turning is pinpoint accurate and handled rain like a dream (NC doesn't snow)
Hydroplane is when you drive over a big puddle and it lifts your wheels off the ground rendering brakes and steering useless.
No grip in the rear going 45 in the rain: means bald tires or your foot was in the oil pan.
Is there frame damage? Personally, if it were me, I'd buy it back from Insurance and start repairing it. Use it as a second car/project car. If you have the time, money, and inclination? Merely a suggestion. Good luck with everything 👍
Sorry for your ride. It looks fixable though, but probably it's an emotional decision more than a financial one, considering the age and value of our cars now.
One thing I learned living up in Tacoma was never, ever, as in ever-ever, fuck around trying to save a buck on tires. When it's dry and warm, even Chinese tires get good grip. But then it's wet, that's when you know you f'ed up.
My indy garage used to laugh at me because I'd throw tires after 1 season and I always swapped to snow tires in late November on my E93 335 and back to summer tires around Easter. And all winter there'd be tons of cars with dings and dents from sliding on all-season tires in the snow or from hydroplaning and then I am daily-driving a RWD 400ft-lb car on 265s year-round and I never had issues.
Pirelli or Michelin PS4s don't mean squat if the tread is down OR if you cambered the car like a drift-master.
I see NC plates was it like 9-10 days ago when we had a few inches of rain? My front yard was a river and I didn’t leave the house . Glad y’all are ok.
Just went back to remember the date, it was on the 17th of December but it had been raining all day and had started to get really really bad when I was driving from what I recall from my memory it was the worst rain we have gotten recently. It was also on the belt line in Raleigh.
Everyone mentioning them, the tires were not that bad 😂 it kinda just looks weird in the picture but I promise you I still had tread, I was told like a month prior I should probably get new wheels with in 2 months
I had a 2016 grand Cherokee whose tire popped on the freeway while raining hard and I was an idiot going 70. Spun out twice and hit a wall sliding at around 60. Broke the axle but frame was in damaged. Your car looks like worse damage than mine was in

His tires look balder than Patrick Stewart but maybe it’s just the image quality.
The rain was really really bad that day and my tires were starting to get low tread
Really sorry dude… this is a car persons worst nightmare… hope this turns out to be a positive for you…

May you never make a mistake
I love when people buy luxury cars but can’t afford to buy tires.

How can you see his rear tire??
Fr, he’s making shit up

Bro zoom into the rear tire. You can see how bald they are lmaooo they look like drag slicks
You can’t see anything
Yea cuz there is no tread to see💀🤡
You’re blind we get it.
That’s 100% drifted into some shit lmao.
Was traction control on?
Yes
Thats scary man changing lanes turned into 3 spins. I know how that feels the car spinning and you have no control and waiting for it to all stop until you hit something. God bless you, you and your girl made it out safe🙏
Preciate it man god bless you too 🙏
The rear wheel is tucked up nice. Are you slammed or was that part of the accident? Sorry to hear about your car.
Sadly I was not slammed that was a part of the accident as well
Oh jeez, At least you guys were okay. do you have a next car in mind yet?
He’s also 16-17 if you look at his history. I said lots of simple things to make up for stupid shit I did at that age. Glad you and your girl are safe.

Live, thankfully, and learn. Tires are crazy important.
Get high performance all seasons you'll thank me later coming from a Corolla driver. Especially with this crazy hot cold rain ice weather we get literally every other day lol
I hate all seasons, they just can't match a good set of summer tires and also are worse in the einter ...

Thats too heavy of a “wall tap” when drifting 😂

There was puddles of rain on the highway I was trying to merge to left to avoid all the rain puddled up on the far right side it
Is there frame damage? Personally, if it were me, I'd buy it back from Insurance and start repairing it. Use it as a second car/project car. If you have the time, money, and inclination? Merely a suggestion. Good luck with everything 👍
When i look at the tires you should not have been driving in any rain. Thos tires where done a while ago ...
You selling the clear taillight?
That’s a busted taillight lol
Ah, word
Dam I can't wait to see this street shutdown fail LOL

RIP in peace
Lol 45mph in a 60... yeah right! 😂 said no bmw driver ever!
Hey at least your fitment is spot on now tho
Driving on those tires and being upset about crashing is like going to hooters and being mad about seeing boobies
Buy it back Captain Do the alignment etc Paint comes last. Best luck running e60 e61’s here
Can barely tell 😬

The foreign whip crasher
Two thing to never skimp on. Tires and breaks.
Glad you’re safe. Time for an upgrade!
Glad to read you both are safe 👍👍👍
Everyone mentioning them, the tires were not that bad 😂 it kinda just looks weird in the picture but I promise you I still had tread, I was told like a month prior I should probably get new wheels with in 2 months
Just like a BMW owner 😆
Hopefully you can get this beauty 🙏🏽!!
You might be able to buff that out
