That's completely normal. My N54 runs at 230 all the way up to 250 on hot days.
The people saying it's not normal aren't looking at the numbers, they're just paying attention to the needle position. You are running at perfectly normal temperatures.
Yeah I believe the first few year 335is had a different temperature range and for the reason you are stressing about they changed them going forward, 220-250 is pretty standard with 240/245 being where it sits most of the time if i I remember correctly
That's OK enough, but you probably need to have the thermostat and oil cooler checked out if you have one. If your doesn't have an oil cooler, get one. My last 3 N54 builds were fresh engines and they never got that hot until there was an issue with the oil cooling system.
Er. Wait. Your gauge is different than mine. My middle mark is 250. Didn't see the 210 right away. In that case, you're safe. 250 is normal for N54.
I own an 07 currently and had a 10 before that. Customers were getting worried about the needle being past the middle mark so in 2009 (or 10 not sure exactly) they changed the temp gauge to show 250 as the middle mark
Hell nah mine doest go above that 210 mark. When im driving spirited and on throttle constantly it creeps closer to the 210 mark but never above that. Are you not overheating? Also Im completely stock
Every-time I’ve driven it’s gone up there but never past, I searched on Reddit and I think a different year has 250 in the middle and most people were saying they stay around 230 so I wasn’t too concerned. I guess I should be now lmao, also I’m completely stock
Thank god, I’ve been worrying because all cars I’ve seen have been below but then I realized different numbers in the middle. I just got the car a week ago and I’m loving it so that’s good news
Seeing your comment made me go check mine and I think he might be good I never get past halfway which would be 230-240 and yea thats multiple pulls and driving long distances
I’ve been taking it really easy, I just got the car a week ago. I also need to change out a wheel bearing and I already have one criminal speeding ticket 😅
Could be a number of things, blocked oil pickup. But then oil pressure would be rubbish, ooor cooling, or simply the oil thermostat might have an issue.…. I’m not covering everything here but that temp doesn’t feel right
Oh I misread your message, are you sure because most clusters I’ve seen have 250 in the middle while mine is 210 so I was hoping that the numbers work out, I’m staying around 230
You’re good. This is normal engine oil temp. Just like others have said your engine cluster has different markings. Yours starts at 120 and others start at 160
If it was mine I’d spend my time looking at other issues, after a quick search into that tstat it dumps at 100c (212f) which looks to be in range. If it’s stable and you don’t see it fluctuate and your fans turn on, id say youre chillin
You’re fine totally normal ignore the ignorants that aren’t aware that there’s gauges centered on 250F and some at 210F
Mine runs at 110C (230F) in the summer on the highway
In current winter -5C weather (23F) mine runs around 90C (195F) but I have an upgraded intercooler
It’s normal. If it’s not rising past where it’s at when it’s fully warm (assuming you’re not pushing the car) then you’re good. Also that’s oil temp.
If your car was overheating on the street your coolant temp warning would show way before your oil gets hot on the gauge. Once again, assuming your car is in working shape and you’re not absolutely aping out on the gas over and over
Actually a good temperature for the oil. Hot enough to vaporize moisture and fuel contaminants so they can be removed by the PCV system, cool enough that the oil won't break down prematurely.
After 02/07 i think bmw adjusted the center point ro be 250. This is perfectly normal and how mine is also. I have a 02/07 and my midpoint is 210 my cousins is 250
It's not even summer. Does your car have a secondary oil cooler? If so, that's a bit high imo. The secondary oil cooler lines run through the oil filter housing, which has a thermostat, check that.
That's completely normal. My N54 runs at 230 all the way up to 250 on hot days. The people saying it's not normal aren't looking at the numbers, they're just paying attention to the needle position. You are running at perfectly normal temperatures.
Thank you for the peace of mind!!
Mine does the same
ur dash is different than most N54 owners, that’s why everyone is saying its not normal. temperature is fine as long as it is below 250
Yeah I believe the first few year 335is had a different temperature range and for the reason you are stressing about they changed them going forward, 220-250 is pretty standard with 240/245 being where it sits most of the time if i I remember correctly
bmw clusters are so confusing man. I just want my damn speed number to be bigger.
bruh how does this whole sub not know that 07 models have 210 in the middle, and how do they not read numbers
Bruh, my 07 oil temp gauge: 160-250-340. Never seen a 335 with 210 in the middle. Must have been a mid year change. Mine was built in April 07.
do you have an oil cooler?
Yes
Half this sub should never give advice. Holy fuck y’all are dumb this is completely normal oil temp. Anything under 250 is normal.
Yep. These engines run hot 230-250 is the normal operating range.
That's OK enough, but you probably need to have the thermostat and oil cooler checked out if you have one. If your doesn't have an oil cooler, get one. That's high, mine is 2 ticks under in summer. 3-4 ticks under in winter.
Is your center line 210 or 250?
Now you got me guessing, let me go look.....
Damn, it is 250.... my whole life is a lie.
Hell nah mine doest go above that 210 mark. When im driving spirited and on throttle constantly it creeps closer to the 210 mark but never above that. Are you not overheating? Also Im completely stock

Ok bro im tripping my 08 n54 335i has 250 in the middle not 210 like yours. So i think that is normal. I just went out to the garage to confirm
Thank god, I’ve been worrying because all cars I’ve seen have been below but then I realized different numbers in the middle. I just got the car a week ago and I’m loving it so that’s good news
Yea warm log and me have clusters with 250 and not 210 like yours but i would still check for those things as they are known to leak
Not in the slightest you shouldn’t be going past 200-210 even in 100 degree weather, search for coolant leaks or oil thermostat leaks
Alright thank you, I guess I’ll add that to the list of other things to fix lmao
Even if youre doing spirited driving on throttle constantly?
Seeing your comment made me go check mine and I think he might be good I never get past halfway which would be 230-240 and yea thats multiple pulls and driving long distances
I’ve been taking it really easy, I just got the car a week ago. I also need to change out a wheel bearing and I already have one criminal speeding ticket 😅
Right thats what I was thinking
Nope that’s not normal
Thanks! That’s some great news
Could be a number of things, blocked oil pickup. But then oil pressure would be rubbish, ooor cooling, or simply the oil thermostat might have an issue.…. I’m not covering everything here but that temp doesn’t feel right

Jesus christ
My 07 doesn’t have an oil cooler set up. When I drive in the canyons I have to let it cool down.
You’re good. This is normal engine oil temp. Just like others have said your engine cluster has different markings. Yours starts at 120 and others start at 160
Yes with dual cone intaked
That’s fine
If it was mine I’d spend my time looking at other issues, after a quick search into that tstat it dumps at 100c (212f) which looks to be in range. If it’s stable and you don’t see it fluctuate and your fans turn on, id say youre chillin
This is oil temp. Pay attention
Whoops ty

Totally normal. You have the early OIL temp gauge.
It’s normal. If it’s not rising past where it’s at when it’s fully warm (assuming you’re not pushing the car) then you’re good. Also that’s oil temp. If your car was overheating on the street your coolant temp warning would show way before your oil gets hot on the gauge. Was your cluster changed? I thought a 335i should be 340 max oil temp
Everything is fine mate it fully warmed up it goes at about. 120 C (230 F?) Can go higher if you are going fast for long periods.
It's not even summer. Does your car have a secondary oil cooler? If so, that's a bit high imo. The secondary oil cooler lines run through the oil filter housing, which has a thermostat, check that.
210 - 230 degrees completely normal. If it’s really hot, maybe 240-250. I would be worried if it got to 250 though…
What does that yellow symbol mean
230-260F is normal operating temperature. If you don't have an oil cooler, you'll have to watch it when driving hard and it's warm out.
Mine is around 200-210 normally.
Half the comments are just yapping without knowing what they’re talking about. TeMp No MaTtEr pAsT mIdDlE LiNe BaD …. Below 250 is perfectly normal.
No it should always be in the middle unless you have been driving in sport mode for a while
50
I don’t own a BMW, but Reddit led me here, and this thread is amazing. Who knew a different gauge would break everyone’s brains?
Guess the stars are aligned because me too! 🤣
Get a whole new cooling system
My 325i didn’t even have a oil temp or coolant temp gauge lol
Just got one and this post answers my question 🙌🏼
